Edward's POV
Vampire.
Edward replayed the word in his head a few times and ran through the little bits of information he had on the 'not so mythical creature' in many folklore throughout history, which to be honest, it was not much but ironically a passage from Bram Stockers 'Dracula' came to mind,
"There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights. We learn from failure, not from success! I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely and build our castles in the air."
Bella currently sat before him, as still as a statue, her breathing all but halted the minute she said the word.
Vampire.
Edward really looked at her. She looked a likened to a Greek Goddess. Her long mahogany locks that had not a hair out of place nor was it damaged in any way. It was perfect.
Her lips were just off the ruby red in color and perfectly proportioned. Not dry nor flaky.
Her nose was straight and fit her perfectly structured face. Not big nor small.
Her cheekbones gave her a look models had killed themselves trying to achieve, all without looking gaunt and undernourished.
Her face was symmetrical. No humans face was strictly symmetrical.
Her body was beyond perfect and Edward did not mean it coming from a person attracted to her, it literally was perfect. Everything was proportioned exactly how it should be.
She was perfect.
"I'll understand if you don't want to see me ag-" Bella had began to ramble as her nerves got the better of her.
"How old are you?" Edward asked. If Bella was a vampire, did she age slowly or not at all?
"About a century." She said softly, as to not startle Edward anymore than she should have.
100 years.
She was currently 84 years Edward's senior.
Edward thought he'd be repulsed but he wasn't.
"How do you kill them?" Edward asked.
"Kill them? Who?" Bella asked, her eyebrows drawn together in confusion.
"The people who's blood you drink." Edward asked.
"We dont drink the blood of humans, only animals. Over populated animals, as to not endanger any species." Bella said, she looked shocked that Edward currently wasn't running from her and taking this so well. His heart rate was still normal and Bella subtly sniffed air and could not smell perspiration on Edward.
Vampires who are concerned about the wildlife ecosystem. Who would have thought.
"The sun?" Edward questioned, staring off into the distance at the spot directly in the direct sunlight.
"I'll show you." Bella said as she got up at a human speed and walked towards the sunlight.
"Dont hurt yourself." Edward said, concern lacing his features.
Bella smiled at him, maybe there was hope after all.
Bella stepped into the sunlight and Edward could not help but gasp. She shone like thousands of diamonds were crushed under her skin. It took Edward's breath away.
Edward ran the passage from Bram Stockers famous novel through his head over and over again.
"There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights." Edward quoted outloud, still mesmerized by Bella.
Bella looked at Edward and her eyes filled with tears she'd never shed.
Edward slowly made his way to the Goddess currently in the sunlight and carried on quoting from the passage,
"I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely and build our castles in the air."
Edward hesitantly put his hands on Bella's waist and pulled her forward. Well, she willingly came forward as Edward very much doubted he could physically make a vampire do anything.
Bella leant up and kissed Edward, her lips parted slightly, Edward could feel her breath cold against his mouth, he could feel the moisture of his lips on hers and then it happened. Slowly, carefully she gently licked Edward's bottom lip then nibbled; Edward gasped and opened his mouth wide enough for her to gently slip his tongue in.
Bella's hands were tangled in Edward's hair, wanting him closer and yet it was never enough.
And then she pulled back. Edward tried to chase after her lips with his own as he whimpered in displeasure. Bella purred in satisfaction and pecked him on the lips.
"I need to tell you something else." Bella whispered as to not disturb the quiet that had fell in the meadow.
Bella's POV
My mate instantly looked concerned but didn't move his hands from Bella's waist.
Bella inwardly purred in pleasure.
Focus Bella.
"Every vampire has a mate. Perhaps it was a way for the God's to make up for the fact that we are monsters and make our eternity bearable. But we cannot procreate. We are frozen, unmoving. Never going forward."
Bella took an unnecessary breath and continued,
"We dont need to breathe, sleep nor use the restroom. We could sit around like an ornament for millennia's gathering dust if we so wished if it wasn't for our thirst and hunger for blood,it's the way we carry on existing."
Bella noticed Edward watch her chest to see if it would rise and fall with every breath she took. It didn't.
"Edward, you are my mate. My other half." Bella said, feeling as if she were a human she would be holding her breath.
Edward's mouth opened in shock and his heart race picked up a few.
"Now I know that is a daunting thing to hear at such a young age. You have your whole life ahead of you. You may want children or to experience growing old and watching your grandkids play on the front lawn while you sit on the porch with your wife…" Bella eyes glazed over as if lost in a memory.
"I want you Bella. Admittedly it's alot to take in but I will never want anything more than I want you. I dont need nor want children and growing old holds no appeal."
Edward said.
"I know this is going very fast and I understand if you want to go slow but Edward, you need to know. Vampires by nature are possessive creatures. And protective over what we consider ours.
We are even more so over our mates. If one mate dies, the other will follow no more than three days after. If you decide this is too much, we can end it but I will always be in your shadow. Watching and guarding. Until you pass, I will follow."
Bella said as she looked in her mates green eyes. God, Edward's eyes are the doorway to heaven.
"We can take things slow but I will not fight the pull I feel for you." Edward said firmly but carried on to say,
"Bella, I haven't got much to offer you. I can't buy you the most expensive cars or jewel's and I currently stay in a shed my ever loving father put me in. I'm not worthy of you but I will try to be." Edward finished off softly.
Bella lifted Edward's chin with her finger and made sure he kept eye contact with her,
"Edward. You are my mate. I will care for you. I will look after you. My vampire will expect nothing less and before you object or think I'm undermining you as a man, I am not. We unfortunately have met while you are human and I, vampire therefore the bond sees you as the more vulnerable of the both of us. Not weaker. Just more prone to injury or..or…death." Bella finished off, hating even thinking of her mates death. It made her stomach roll.
"I just want to be able to give you the things you deserve." Edward said sullenly.
"You have. You have given me, you." Bella said as she captured his lips in kiss. She would never tire of kissing her mate.
Then rain began to pour down as if the heavens had opened up the taps full blast.
Lightening struck the suddenly dark sky and thunder rolled.
Bella guided them under a tiny bit of shelter but knew it wasn't wise to use a tree as shelter during a storm.
"Do you trust me?" Bella asked Edward.
"Of course I do." Edward answered.
"Get on my back." Bella said as she turned around for Edward to get on.
Edward felt a bit awkward climbing on a womans back but pushed it aside.
"Close your eyes and hold on tight."
And then they were moving faster than humanly possible.
