Why?

Chapter 3 – The Answer

.

Harvey walked away and sat down again. He looked back up at Donna. She had not moved.

"Ok," he agreed. He watched as Donna smiled retrieving her phone from her voluminous bag. She contacted the cab company and cancelled the cab as she said she would.

Harvey sat on pins and needles as he watched Donna walk back to the couch and resume her seat on the opposite side. She again curled her legs under her and sat perpendicular to him waiting for him, it seemed, to give her his answer.

"Donna," he began. "The reason I didn't come into your apartment the other night is that I didn't want you to get the wrong idea."

"About what?" Donna asked. "About your feelings? Leading me on?"

Harvey tilted his head one way and then the other while he pursed his lips and summed up how and what he wanted to say.

"Donna, I didn't come in the other night because I didn't want you to get the wrong idea about us."

Donna tilted her head back and replied, "Ok. So, you were pitying me again? You told me you loved me but again it doesn't mean that you want more? So, if you had come into my apartment you thought that I would have asked you for more?"

"Yes, Donna, I didn't want you to think that I was using you as a rebound woman because I had just broken up with Paula."

"So, you were in love with her!"

"No. I'm in love with you!" Harvey exclaimed standing up and his hands gesturing that he had nothing more to hide. He had not wanted to discuss this. He did not want to reveal to her that he was in love with her. He looked at Donna. He watched her rise and walk over again to her purse and retrieve her phone.

"Donna, what are you doing?"

"I'm calling the cab back. I need to go home and process what you just told me," she explained dejectedly.

Harvey hurriedly walked over to her and retrieved her phone cutting off the call before she could make it. He put it in his pocket because he did not want her to leave. She had promised him she would not if he answered her question.

"Harvey!" Donna said holding her hand out expecting him to drop her phone into it.

"No, it's not that easy, Donna."

"Well, if we're just going to keep going around in circles with our feelings because you're not ready I have had it. I'm really very sober now, so there's no reason for your T-L-C," she spit out sarcastically near tears.

After a minute, Donna threw up her hands and looked skyward saying, "I should have just gone home, but Rachel put the bug in my ear and urged me to come over here and ask you." Donna turned away from him and leaned on the counter. She knew he had not moved since he had taken away her phone. She wanted him to do SOMETHING!

A hundred years' worth of minutes passed before Harvey moved. He did not return her phone but left it in his pocket and returned to the couch. He swiftly drank down his last few dregs of his scotch. His movements were deliberate as he tried to buy more time before venturing to do what he had just realized he had always wanted to do.

Donna stood looking at Harvey's sink, oven, and refrigerator. Before she could even form a sentence his lips were on hers trying to open her mouth and probe with his tongue. Donna broke out in tears and quickly slapped him!

"No Harvey! You don't get me that easily. Not after all we've been through," Donna said ominously.

Harvey stood in shock still holding his hands as if he were holding her face. He could see she was upset. Inside he was trembling. The slap to his cheek was quite a surprise to him. He could see Donna was trembling as well. He watched as she wrapped her arms around herself in a protective measure.

"I'm sorry, Harvey. It was a surprise. I know I wanted you to do something, but I hadn't expected that," she responded quietly as he watched the shock on his face and saw the red mark on his cheek from her slap. The only man she had ever slapped was Hardman and that was from what he had pulled on her and Harvey.

Harvey stood there shocked. He looked at Donna as he seemed to be glued to his spot. He knew now why he chose Donna over Paula. It was not purely professional nor platonic. What was between them was passionately feral, visceral, and intensely sexual but most of all it was deep abiding love. She had his heart the minute she shook his hand. He would do anything for her. He would lay down his life for her and he knew he could trust her implicitly. Whether he had realized it or not, he fell in love with her the minute she introduced herself in that bar and then the little nuances that only endeared her to him more like the way she introduced him to the favorite way he took his coffee and especially the way she always protected him, cared for him, and loved him unconditionally.

Harvey regained himself after what seemed like forever. He saw her tear stained face. He watched her walk away. How could she leave me now?

"Donna," he said as he watched her walk away again. This time he really had to unglue his feet from their spot and run after her because she was near the door when he finally caught up.

He noticed a stray tear and thumbed it away before it escaped down her cheek. He, this time, carefully took her face in his hands, bending toward her tentatively going in for another kiss. She did not flinch away or avert her head. As he drew closer, he could feel her acceptance, so this kiss was tender yet still passionate. He could feel her respond. As she responded his heart finally felt free. He pushed her hair back as their kiss intensified. They embraced and kissed with relish and love and all those pent-up feelings finally released into the wild.

When their lips finally parted, Donna looked up at him. Despite her spontaneously kissing him some weeks ago, she had wanted him to be honest with her and tell her what he was feeling. He said her kiss had affected him, but she dismissed it as not the same as feeling something.

She liked rough sex every now and then but not initially when it was so Harvey. From experience, she knew that was not his way. The one night they shared so many years ago started out playful, but by their third time that night sex had become something much sweeter between them. His second venture tonight at kissing her was tentative, soft, and reverent. Harvey's rough kiss was spontaneous and he really meant no insult by it. Her reaction to him was kneejerk. She knew when she had a moment to recover was that this was Harvey. He had finally succumbed to his emotions and they were so fierce that he needed his actions to be louder than his words. When he admitted that he was in love with her, he wanted her to know that he really loved her and wanted her.

Donna realized that she had always been his first choice. His earlier argument was true. He had not wanted her to get the wrong idea. Her love and want for this man was always near the top, but right now all those feelings of desire, need, and unconditional love flood throughout her being. She did want him and, instinctively, perhaps he realized that Donna would not capitulate if she empathized that she was second best.

"Harvey?" She asked with a question in her eyes. She held him close in her arms. She had been in love for so long with this man.

He half smiled and crossed his arms around her waist pulling her so close that they were almost one being. He thrust his hips into hers leaving no mistake as to what he felt and wanted.

"What?" He asked quietly. His eyes never left her face.

"How do you love me?"

He kissed her deeply, giving her his tongue and receiving hers as little bolts of lightning took him over.

"Does that answer your question? I love you, Donna. I want to be with you."

"Harvey, I love you. I've always loved you," she responded breathlessly as he wiped another tear from her eye.

Their kissing increased in ardor. Their restless hands exploring curves and planes that were unfamiliar but not really strange. It was as if their hands had come home to one another having been lost for so many years.

Finally, Harvey could not wait any longer. With one swoop, he picked her up in his arms and he carried her in his arms as a groom carries his bride over the threshold.

Reaching their destination in short time, Harvey placed Donna on the bed and he joined her on the other side. They began to touch again as Harvey pressed Donna into the mattress. He was lost in her skin. Her clean hair's scent was of his manly shampoo yet her neck and soft freckled skin carried the scent of her own mixed with her perfume and his generic scented bath soap.

Donna's hands lost themselves in Harvey's soft hair. She shivered as he nipped and kissed her neck. She could not hold his warm body close enough. As he moved she responded by running her well-manicured nails down his back. She could feel the goosebumps she inflicted on him which only encouraged his loving. She nipped at his ear and held his face in her hands as if he were precious glass fear he may shatter if she did not hold him exactly how he needed.

They would change pace as they slowly, swiftly, lovingly, undressed each other. Each gently touching, kissing, and worshiping each piece of skin revealed. When they were finally unclothed to each other, they took a momentary pause and looked into each other's eyes. They smiled together and then kissed.

"Harvey, make love to me. Now," she gently commanded.

He looked at her and kissed her. He was feeling playful all of a sudden. Donna was putty in his hands and he wanted to make the best of it. As he pressed her into his mattress he grasped her around her slim waist and then he pulled her over to his side of the bed, so Donna's now naked body lay on top of his naked body. He maneuvered her so she could feel his penis near her rear.

"Ok, big boy, I see you want me to take control," Donna said, spreading her thighs low over his hips and kissed his expanse of chest as she raised herself up to straddle him. Donna was on fire and worked her way down until she slid onto Harvey's hard erection.

"Ooo, baby," she moaned as she laid her head back slowly. She could feel Harvey's hands at her breasts kneading them. His organ moved within her as Harvey sat up. She held onto his shoulders and kissed him as he shifted his hips shifting her. He thrust into her carefully and gently. She bent down and kissed him and then trailed her way down his strong neck. She nibbled and he actually giggled as he bent into her lips.

"I see you remembered how ticklish I am," Harvey said, closing his eyes and loving the feel of her in his arms, her lips on his neck, and her hands holding him close.

Not being able to stand it any longer, Harvey flipped them again and thrust himself into her. They joined hands, their fingers woven in each other's. Donna closed her eyes as Harvey moved his body into hers and buried his head and lips into her neck. She sighed deeply and kissed him behind his ear. She breathed in his manly scent and felt his perspiration joining with her own as their movements became more and more in sync and wilder with each of Harvey's pushes and Donna's raise of her hips.

"Harvey," she breathed his name. Harvey hands pressed hers harder. She could hear his sighs and his moans. The sound of his voice vibrating against her neck sending shivers down to her toes. She opened her legs wide loving the feeling of him right there where she felt everything. He let go of her one hand for a minute as his head traveled down to love her breasts. His free hand moving down to where their bodies joined. He thumbed her clit while sucking and playing with her breasts. Her nipples were so hard and Harvey plied them gently with his teeth.

After they had thrashed about a little trying to find completion as they were both driven to the highest high. Harvey's thrust became faster and faster which led to Harvey's final release. He shook all over with his intense orgasm and spilling of his semen into Donna. After a minute where he waited for her to come down from her orgasm as well, he raised himself on his elbows just high enough to look into her face. Shakenly, he stroked her cheek and smiled down at her. She looked up at him and smiled. She stroked his face and laced her arms around his shoulders. Her hands were restless around his back, lightly she stroked it which she could feel Harvey's ticklish response.

"I love you, Donna. I don't know why I thought that there was ever a choice between you and Paula. I'm glad you've forgiven me," Harvey said quietly and deeply loving how bright her smile was back to him. He breathed in and then kissed her.

"Did I say I forgave you?" Donna teased with a raised eyebrow.

Harvey moved his head around and pursed his lips. "Well, I don't think if you forgave me you would have put me in this compromising position."

"Sure. I just let you think that," she said as she breathed in a kiss from him. She was rewarded by his smile which was so bright that if there had been no moonlight coming into the room his smile would have been a beacon all its own.
