A/N:
I hope that you enjoy! Nothing else. You'll see what's up as you read on. It's a filler chapter, I know. But at least it's something. Oh, you also get introduced to a new character. They're awesome!

Chapter 36: Behind Enemy Lines
CAROLINE POV
"Just follow me through here." Tyler was leading me to wherever we could eat something. As I walked through the Abattoir, I realized how the structure had definitely been a Mikaelson creation. The architecture was elegant, with dark woods and antique furnishings. Above the fireplace in the living room was the Mikaelson family crest, peeping out from behind a tattered tapestry.
"Here we are." Tyler finally led me into what seemed to be the kitchen. When we entered, the heads of a couple vampires scattered across the room whipped around to look at us. A couple of them gave me a double take, while others just snarled.
"So you actually got the girl." A female with spiked black hair asked, and Tyler nodded.
"Verity, this is Caroline. Caroline, this is Verity, who I borrowed your clothes from."
"Hi." I awkwardly waved to the girl, who looked me down skeptically before replying.
"Red's a good color on you. And hey. Sorry about the whole kidnapping thing. Tyler was just so adamant to have you back, so he enlisted us to help with a plan. The vervain syringe to the neck was my idea, so yeah. Glad to have you here though." Verity gave me a small wave.
Verity was your stereotypical badass by the looks of her. Spiky black hair, biker style clothing, and sleeves of tattoos depicting God knows what. But she also seemed to have a kind aura. Still, I didn't, and couldn't, trust anyone here. I needed to get away.
"Hey Tyler?" I asked.
"Yeah? What's wrong?" Tyler asked me, a look of concern on his face.
"Do you have a phone I can borrow? I need to call my mom. She's probably driving herself mad with worry. Please, I'm begging you." I pleaded the typical scared mother card, and Tyler, being the idiot he was, gave in.
"Here. Call her, and her only. I promise I won't spy, but only because I trust you. And I want you to trust me. I'll meet you in the courtyard in a few minutes when you're done. I have something I need to give you." Tyler handed me his iPhone, leaving me standing in the kitchen with some very curious vampires.
"I'm going to go….to the living room." I stuttered, and zoomed out there in a flash.
When I got into the living room, I immediately closed the doors. Making sure everything was locked and no one could get in, I picked up Tyler's phone. No surprise, his background was a picture of me and him in Mystic Falls at prom. Sure, the photograph brought back some precious memories, but I couldn't be reminiscing right now. Going to the phone, I dialed a now familiar number. The dial tone rang, until an anxious British voice picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hi."
KLAUS POV
"Caroline, love. Are you alright?" I asked the young vampire anxiously.
"I'm fine. A bit scared, but not deadly terrified. Tyler took me, and he's brought me to the Abattoir. He's gotten some crazy idea in his head that Marcel's witch Davina can perform a spell to make me turn against you, or something like that. Help me." Caroline pleaded to me over the phone. I sighed, trying to think of a way to rescue her.
"What have they done to you?" I asked her, and her breathing sped up.
"Marcel tortured me for a while. Vervain steeped water dunks, wooden bullets, the works. But it was evidently some kind of test to prove if I was strong enough to survive Davina's spell." Caroline explained, and my grip around my cellular phone increased with my anger.
"Caroline, I want you to run. I'm coming." I breathed.
"I can't go outside, they've taken my daylight ring. And I don't think they plan on giving it back anytime soon." She replied, which angered me even more.
"Listen Klaus, Tyler is waiting for me. He thinks I'm on the phone with my mom. Tell her I love her and that I'm okay, alright?" Caroline requested.
"I will. I'm coming to get you, sweetheart. Be careful." I told her.
"Okay."
"I love you, Caroline." I told her.
"Thanks. I'll be safe, I promise." She hung up the phone. I sighed, and turned to Elijah who was standing across the room, looking at me for directions.
"Looks like we are storming the castle. And making it ours again."
CAROLINE POV
I hung up the phone with a swipe of my finger across the glass. Sighing, I crossed my arms across my chest, thinking of what in the world I was going to do now. My heels clacked against the hardwood floor as I paced. I was turning into Klaus, always pacing as I thought.
"You might want to be careful. These antique wood floors don't stand up very well to heels. That's why Marcel never let's me or the other girls wear them around the compound." A young female's voice made me snap around.
When I made eye contact with the girl, I was kind of taken aback by her beauty. Chocolate brown hair fell in soft curls around her porcelain doll like face. Her blue eyes were both striking, yet doe-like and soft at the same time. She was dressed in a cream colored lace dress, with elbow length sleeves and pearl earrings. It was like she was a living doll.
"Who are you?" I asked, slowly approaching the teen girl. She smiled at me, showing off a row of perfectly white teeth.
"I'm Davina. You must be Caroline, Tyler's girlfriend. Right?" Davina asked me. Her voice was like a bell, bright and clear.
"Yes, I'm Caroline. But no, I'm not Tyler's girlfriend. I used to be, but not anymore. So you're Davina?" I questioned the young girl, and she nodded.
"You're younger than I thought you'd be."
"I get that pretty often. Marcel thinks it's dangerous for people to know my age, so he doesn't tell many. You're really pretty." Davina complimented me.
"Thanks. You're kinda of jaw dropping yourself. I didn't expect you to be so kind." I responded.
"What made you think that I would be anything otherwise?" Davina asked, and I sighed.
"Marcel said that you've had premonitions about, well, I guess my boyfriend's children. He said you saw the twins destroying the world." I told her, and immediately she shook her head.
"That's ridiculous. I mean, I saw the birth of Klaus's children. But I never saw them as the destroyers of the world. In fact, they're going to be the complete opposite. Unlike just average vampire blood, it will have healing properties that include healing cancer. That little boy and girl are going to help the world, not destroy it." Davina explained, and I shook my head.
"Are you serious?" I asked, and Davina nodded solemnly. I had to sit down, the sudden truth making me dizzy.
"Why would Marcel lie about the twins?" I asked Davina and she shrugged, her petite shoulders raising daintily.
"I sometimes don't understand why Marcel does the things he does. But it is not my place to judge his actions. Marcel saved me from being sacrificed in a ritual, which my own mother had approved. He made sure I had a life worth living." Davina sat down next me on the leather couch.
"But he still keeps you locked up in here. And makes you perform magic for whatever whim he wishes. Davina, that isn't living. That's being kept like a prisoner, and it's not right. I know someone who could protect you. You seem like a wonderful girl, and you don't deserve to be locked up in a tower like Rapunzel." I told her, but Davina shook her head.
"Caroline, as much as I wish I could have a normal life, I can't. The witches of my old coven are out for blood, and will do anything to finish the Harvest Ritual. I don't want to die." Davina spoke, her eyes filled with fear. She seemed strong, but was also fragile.
"Klaus could protect you. I know that Marcel has painted him as a monster, but Klaus has changed. He's changed even my mind about him, so you can see how different he is. He isn't like what Marcel has told you. I wish I knew how to explain it better." I said, and Davina nodded slowly.
"I can't trust Klaus, but I have a feeling I can trust you. You remind me of an older sister, even if I have only known you for five minutes. Caroline, you don't seemed freaked out. I mean, you were just kidnapped by your ex-boyfriend and brought here. I would be terrified. And pissed, but mostly terrified." Davina said, and I laughed.
"Well the kidnapping wasn't as horrible as the torture. Vervain steeped water, a wonderful new invention for vampire hunters and evil masterminds alike." I sighed, and looked over at Davina. What I didn't expect to see was a look of shock spread across her face.
"Who splashed you with vervain water?" Davina asked, and I hesitated to tell her what had happened with Marcel. Even though he had done horrendous things to me, Davina still looked up to him as a father.
"It was a mutual party, to say the least." I looked down at my hands, which were worn and beaten. Last week my mom and I had gotten manicures done by some at home service, a treat from Klaus of course. Now, the perfectly filled in French tips were broken and jagged.
"I know part of the duo was Marcel. He wanted to test you, make sure that you were worth exposing me for. Because whenever I produce a big spell, my ancestors and the coven know it. And if the magic is strong enough, they could track me. That's why he is so protective over me." Davina explained why Marcel believed our little torture session had been necessary.
"So basically you're never allowed to practice magic?" I asked, and Davina corrected me almost instantly.
"I never said I wasn't allowed. Marcel just simply wishes that I refrain from performing large spells unless absolutely necessary. But he never said anything about doing small incantations. Here, watch this." Davina removed a small silver bangle off her arm and placed it on the coffee table in front of us.
"Et quod nos cum obiectum fascinum invicem communicantes." Davina chanted, and a spark came from the bracelet.
"What are you doing?!" I asked her, a bit panicked. If Marcel sensed she was using magic, then he would ultimately blame me. Even if he did keep Davina as a captive of sorts, he loved her like a daughter according to Tyler.
"This bracelet is now enhanced with a communication spell. If you need me, simply touch the bracelet and think of the message you want to send me. I will help you as best I can." Davina slipped the bangle onto my wrist. I looked at her in surprise.
"Why are you being kind to me? And giving me this. I've had a lot of so-called friends turn their back on me, Davina, and I really hope that's not what you're doing." I told her, and Davina laughed delicately.
"Caroline. Marcel has had me locked away in this place for nearly a year and a half. I haven't set foot outside since the day I arrived, not even onto my balcony or the patio. I can see that you do not want to be with Tyler, and that you love someone else. There's a glimmer in your eye that I've only dreamed of having. So I am going to help you." Davina declared, and I looked at her in surprise.
"Even if you could help me, I can't go outside. They have my daylight ring. It allows me to…" Davina cut me off.
"I know. It allows you to walk in the sunlight. I've made a few for Marcel's family members a couple times. I think I can help with that." Davina said, and was instantly performing another incantation of some kind. The words slipped from her lips like silk.
"Reddentem deest sua cuiusque." Davina's eyes shot open. She opened her palm, and in it sat one thing. My daylight ring.
"How did you get it?" I asked her as she handed my ring back to me. Sliding the ring back onto my finger, a sense of content immediately washed over me.
"It was a simple summoning spell. Nothing major or traceable. I do them all the time when I misplace my charcoal or my paintbrush." Davina shrugged.
"Thank you." I told her, and she nodded.
"Now Caroline, here's the thing. Tyler was going to give that ring back to you in about ten minutes, and I may have just taken it from right in front of him. So all I can say is to do one thing." Davina's voice dropped to a whisper.
"What?"
"Run."
A/N:
So did you like Davina? I was hesitant to bring her physically into the story, but eventually I couldn't help myself. She's such a delicate yet badass character, so I'm really excited to develop her further! Hope you liked!
