Lynx 12
Lynx and Sloth laughed together as a rather new Rainwing cadence was played. A few Nightwings and Rainwings that had made their way out joined the two in a dance that they all learned before they could count.
Stomp back talon. Step forward. Slide left and hold your wings up and sweep into a bow with a spin. Again, but faster and switch partners.
Lynx smiled brightly. She felt as if she was back home in the rainforest, a party being thrown across both villages just for the fun of it. She remembered her first party, where she met the royal family….
….
….
….
Lynx was hiding under her uncle's wing and stared wide eyed at the dragons around her. She twisted her necklace, a wire flower with pale pink, fading to purple glass serving as the petals. It had been a gift from her Uncle for her birthday just recently. She had just turned two, and Her uncle had decided she was ready for her first out of the family party.
He wanted her to meet Dragonets her own age. He wanted her to know a few others before having to go to school the following year.
"Go on." Her uncle lifted his wing and smiled down at her. She tried to shrink down but her uncle stepped away from her
"B-but i-i-" She was cut off by a bright yellow and pink dragonet tackling her.
"Wow! I've never seen you before! You're so pretty! I love your eyes. Your spikes are amazing!" It was a Rainwing dragonet, who wore a delicate flower and sloth fur woven necklace.
"Sloth!" A Nightwing called and pulled the young Rainwing away from Lynx. She sat up and stared at the brightly colored dragon.
Her uncle's eyes widened when he saw the Nightwing. He dipped his head in a small respectful bow.
When the Nightwing finished lecturing the dragonet he turned to Lynx, his eyes dark.
"D-Deathbringer...I'm So sorry about my niece." Her uncle began. Deathbringer cut him off with a glare. His gaze turned once again to the little Icewing hybrid.
"I've never seen you before Icewing, this is not your home." A growl started in his throat .
"My n-name is Lynx…my h-home is with my uncle…" She glanced up at said Dragon before fiddling with a leaf. The Nightwing opened his mouth but was cut off by Sloth.
" Papa, I like her, can she be my friend? " The young Dragonet hopped over to Lynx's side.
(anything before this was written in 2019, and anything after was written in may 2020)
Deathbringer narrowed his eyes at the Icewing hybrid. There was no reason for him to dislike her. It would be nice for Sloth to have a friend that was like him. But something about the little dragonet unsettled him. And the fact that one of the tribe never notified Glory of her living here made him suspicious. The former assassin glared at the dragonets uncle.
"You never notified the queen of the little ones presence"
"We were on our way to inform her before you stopped us."
Lynx stared at the dragonet who had just asked to be her friend. She noticed the silver scales under his wings, and how he was built a little more bulky, unlike most Rainwings who had long necks and tails.
"You're like me!" she exclaimed. She felt excitement bubble up inside of her. She had never met anyone like her before!
The little Rainwing hybrid puffed out his chest.
"I know! We're amazing right!?" he boasted, his scales fading to a prideful purple. The two adults eyed the dragonets as they began to babble about their attributes to each other.
"I'll let this slide, just this once. The prince needs friendly dragonets in his life...so I'll notify the Queen for you." Deathbringer sighed. Sloth has a hard time making friends...mainly due to his attitude and pride.
"So what's your name!" Sloth threw a wing around Lynx.
"Oh..I'm Lynx" She squeaked, not used to having other dragons willingly touch her.
"Like a cat! But you're so small! Oooohhh" His eyes shined as an idea popped into his head. "You're like a Kitten!" He gasped.
Lynx smiled. "Yeah.." She laughed.
A cadence began, one Lynx would grow to love and learn.
"Ohhh!" Sloth squealed, his scales swirling between gold and pink. "I'm Sloth by the way!" He giggled before dragging her out to participate.
Lynx smiled fondly at the memory. The percussionists gave one last hit, the final sounds ringing through the air. Cheers erupted from the Rainwings and Nightwings who had joined them. Lynx let out a cheer of her own.
It was freeing. She finally felt like she belonged here at Jade mountain. Sloth cheered, throwing a wing around her and another Rainwing close by.
She spotted Professor Moonwatcher trot towards the other teachers.
Did...did Blizzard say something?! Lynx poked Sloth's side, and he immediately looked around.
(Anything after this was written on July 12th because of sudden motivation)
"I think Blizzard talked to professor Moon…" Lynx grumbled, eying the teachers as they glanced her way.
"Why would he have to talk about? I mean it's not like anyone's doing anything wrong?" Sloth shrugged.
Lynx blinked at him as a wave of guilt washed over her. How come she hadn't told him anything? Doesn't she trust him? She didn't hesitate to make her decision.
"Actually-"
"Lynx? Can we speak with you for a moment." The Nightwing professor's voice rang from behind her. Lynx froze.
How dare he.
How dare he.
She had trusted Blizzard.
"Lynx didn't do anything, Blizzard's just upset with her." Sloth defended. He was about to go on when Moon cut him off with a glare.
"This doesn't concern you Sloth. This is a matter between Lynx and the teachers." Moon turned her gaze to Lynx. Lynx couldn't move. She felt as if ice was creeping through her blood. Spreading. Colder. Colder.
"But-" She finally squeaked out.
"No. Now let's go." Moon turned and began to head back towards the mountain. Lynx took shaky steps forward, not hearing Sloth's farewell.
She followed Moon, until they reached her classroom, where a few other teachers, along with Blizzard and the headmistress waited.
"So Lynx" Tsunami began, "Anything you'd like to tell us?"
So...Long time no...read? Haha...
To be honest, I've lost a lot of the interest I had in Wings of fire my freshman year of high school, about a year after starting this Fic...And I'll be a junior when School starts. And that's a long time. But being stuck at home has given me some motivation to write, and I want to start a few new things. but I want to finish this one first. After all, there really isn't much left to tell. I've always had a specific ending in mind.
Anyway, Missed you guys!
