Chapter 1 Alone Until I Met You

Nora's POV

I don't know what happened. I woke up one day...and they were just gone.

I waited around for nearly a whole year for them...but by then...I knew they weren't coming back.

So, I left.

I started traveling from town to town. Stealing food and just trying to survive.

I was alone, and I thought that it was going to stay this way forever.

Then...I met him.

Ren's POV

I was still under that house in my village, waiting for someone to come.

And they did.

I heard footsteps approaching, and immediately started shaking the person who had been sleeping on my said.

"Nora", I said softly. "Nora."

"Huh", Nora said as she woke up hazily. "Ren? What's going on?"

"I hear footsteps", I revealed. "Maybe it's somebody that can help us."

"But what if it's not", Nora asked as she held onto my arm in fear.

"It will be okay", I stated. "We just need to stay together."

"Okay", Nora said in fear.

Then...I held out my hand...and she took it.

I peered out from under the house we were hiding under, and saw a group of people.

"Let's go", I whispered to Nora.

She looked at me fearfully, but still nodded.

Then, I pulled her and myself out into the open.

"Hey", I yelled.

This resulted in the people turning around and seeing us.

They ran up to us, and Nora hid behind me in fear.

"Are you kids okay", one of the people asked us in concern.

"We're fine", I replied.

"What are your names", the person asked.

"My name is Lie Ren", I replied. "And this is Nora."

"Where are your parents", the person asked.

I looked down sadly before looking at Nora, who was doing the same thing as I was.

I guess she doesn't have parents either.

"I see", the man said in realization. "Do you have any other relatives?"

"No", I replied before looking at Nora.

"No", she replied sadly.

"I see", the person said. "Well then, please come with me."

That Afternoon

Nora and I had been taken to a building.

"What is this place", I asked the person who had taken us there.

"This is where you two will be staying", the person replied. "Come on."

With that, we walked into the building, where we saw an elderly lady behind a desk.

"Hello there", she greeted. "How can I be of assistance?"

"I found these two children in a village that has been destroyed by a Grim", the person replied. "They need a place to stay."

"That's awful", the woman stated.

Then...she walked up to Nora and I and kneeled down beside us.

This caused Nora to once again hide behind me in fear.

"Oh", she started. "You poor things. Don't you worry. We'll take care of you here."

I'm not sure if 'take care' was the right way to say it. 'Barely tolerating you' was more accurate.
