Chapter 2: Kidnapping in the Night
After the Davenports brought Lapis home from the hospital, Blue didn't take her eyes off of her daughter for a minute. She was the most precious thing in the world to her right now. Blue always provided her daughter lots of love and a gentle touch.
Lapis was the light of the Davenports' lives. Her ocean blue eyes gleamed with joy and she was at her happiest when she was in the company of those who loved her. Yellow and Blue couldn't even begin to imagine anything bad happening to their child.
Everyday, her mom and dad made sure that the baby girl was cozy, comfortable, and happy. Lapis was provided the softest things from clothes and diapers to pillows and blankets. She was also given gentle bubble baths and her parents sang her soothing lullabies at naptime. What the baby girl loved most of all was being cuddled by her mother and father. It was the simplest form of comfort any parent could give to a baby.
One night, Lapis' mom and dad were getting their baby girl ready for bed. Yellow was giving his daughter a bubble bath while Blue had a towel, diaper, and pair of pajamas ready. Once her father gently rinsed all the suds off her body, little Lapis was squeaky clean.
Blue dried off her infant daughter while Yellow drained the sudsy water from the baby tub.
"Who's our special little girl?" Lapis' mother cooed as she diapered and clothed her child. "Who smells sweet like a flower? You do. Yes, you do."
Afterwards, the parents took their baby girl up to the nursery. Blue sat down in the rocking chair with her daughter. She let Lapis nurse from her so the baby wouldn't have to go to bed with an empty belly. The mother hummed soothingly to her little girl as she drank her milk. Once she was fed and burped, Lapis was swaddled in a bundle of blankets and fell asleep instantly.
"Goodnight, Lapis." Blue said, giving her daughter a kiss. "We love you so much."
"Sweet dreams, little angel." Yellow added, kissing his baby as well.
The parents turned off the light and walked out of their daughter's nursery, closing the door behind them. But once they were gone, two silhouettes with red glowing eyes appeared from the other side of the bedroom window.
One vampire named Squaridot was lanky and had square shaped hair. He wore a ragged gray sweatshirt and ripped jeans.
The other vampire named Spinel was very skinny too, but she had dark red hair in spiky pigtails. She wore a white long-sleeved shirt with stains, a denim vest, red gloves, and black pants.
"Is that her?" Spinel asked her partner, gazing at the sleeping baby.
"Oh yeah." Squaridot nodded, smiling wickedly. "She's the one alright."
"Perfect." the girl vampire smirked. "So let's grab her before she starts crying and wakes the parents."
The two evil creatures tiptoed over the baby bassinet where Lapis was still sound asleep. She was completely unaware of the creepers overshadowing her. Squaridot took the swaddled baby from her bed and he and Spinel made their way back to the window. They snuck out of the nursery ran away from the Davenport household super fast.
Now, Lapis wasn't awakened by the superspeed of the vampires; no, what woke her up was the cold body she was being held against. The poor child was very sensitive to the cold. With evil vampires always being cold to the touch, this freezing stranger was someone the little girl could do without. The unsettling temperature made Lapis start crying.
The two kidnappers cringed when they heard her wail.
"Make that baby be quiet, Squaridot." Spinel demanded her partner. "She's going to wake up the whole neighborhood."
"Do I look like someone who knows how to make a baby stop crying?" Squaridot asked.
"Let's go in the woods." the girl vampire suggested, pointing towards the forest. "The humans won't find us there."
So, that's exactly what the two vampires did. They bolted into the woods, hoping that the cover of trees would conceal their presence from the humans. But, it didn't help to quiet Lapis down.
"Ugh, make it stop!" Squaridot groused. "I can't take her crying anymore."
"I'm sure Jasper will know how to settle the baby down once we bring her to him." Spinel told him.
"Stop right there!" a raspy girl voice called out.
Out of nowhere, two small girls appeared and confronted the kidnappers.
Amethyst was a werewolf with pale lavender hair, dark indigo eyes, and tan skin. She wore a purple long-sleeved shirt, a black jean jacket, and stonewashed pants.
Peridot was a vampire rebel with pale chartreuse hair, olive skin, and of course; sunshine gold eyes. She wore a baggy green hoodie and dark green pants.
"Amethyst and Peridot!" Squaridot exclaimed.
"Oh, great." Spinel groaned. "It's the two half-pints."
"That term is insulting." Peridot snapped.
"How did you find us?" Squaridot asked indignantly.
"Oh, we just listened for the sound of a kidnapped infant crying and followed that." the vampire rebel explained.
"You've got a lot of nerve stealing a baby in her sleep." Amethyst growled. "Now hand her over."
"Not a chance." Spinel spat. "Jasper's going to be thrilled when we deliver him little Lapis Lazuli here."
"I don't think so!" Peridot opposed.
She sprang forth and pulled the human baby from Squaridot's arms. The vampire loyalists were not happy and tried to take the girl back from Peridot who held her protectively.
Luckily, Amethyst was there to guard her friend. She transformed into her wolf form and lunged at the vampire loyalists. A fight ensued until the evil duo decided that they had enough.
"Alright, we give!" Spinel cried out in surrender before fleeing into the shadows. "You win!"
"This isn't over!" Squaridot vowed in indignation, following his partner.
"Yeah, you better run!" Amethyst shouted before giving a sigh of relief. "Glad that's over."
"Yes, we may have driven the vampire loyalists off." Peridot acknowledged. "But, we've got another problem."
"What?" asked the werewolf.
"The baby."
The two of them turned their attention to Lapis who was still crying, but as much as before. They looked at the infant like she was the most beautiful creature in the world.
"Shhh, it's okay; sweetie." Peridot cooed, consoling the baby girl. "The mean vampires are gone now."
Lapis began to quiet down and put a tiny hand on the older girl's chest. This vampire felt different. She wasn't cold like the other two. The baby then snuggled her face into the nice vampire's body. A smile formed on both of the older girls' faces.
"Aww, now that is just the cutest thing I've ever seen." Amethyst giggled
"Let's show her to the rest of the pack." Peridot proposed. "If this is the girl that Jasper wants, she'll need our protection."
So, the two friends went off with baby Lapis to the secret hideaway of the werewolf and vampire alliance.
Back at the Davenport's house, Blue and Yellow went to go check on their daughter since she was being a little too quiet. When they went into the nursery, they were horrified to see that the bassinet was empty and the window was open. They knew that somebody had to have stolen Lapis.
"Lapis!" Blue cried in tears. "My baby!"
Yellow held his wife and they both prayed to God to bring their daughter back, no matter how long it would have to take.
