Chapter 6 Tengoku

Ren's POV

The Next Day

Nora and I were lucky enough to find a doctor who was willing to examine her for free.

He used lightning dust on her arm and had her punch a piece of wood, which she easily broke in half!

"What is going on", she yelled out in confused shock.

"This must be your semblance", the doctor replied.

"My semblance", Nora asked in confusion.

"Yes", the doctor replied. "It looks like absorbing lightning gives you more strength."

"Absorb lighting gives me strength", Nora asked in confusion.

"Looks like it", the doctor replied. "With a power like that, you should consider becoming a huntress."

"A huntress", Nora asked in confusion.

"Yes", the doctor replied. "It is the job of hunters and huntress' to protect Remnant from Grim."

"Project Remnant from Grim", I asked in shock.

"Yes", the doctor replied. "In fact, I think Tengoku is accepting applicants right now."

"What's a Tengoku", Nora asked in confusion.

"Tengoku is a primary compact school", the doctor replied. "Children go there to study compact so they can get into one of the four huntsmen academies."

"As nice as that sounds", I started. "I doubt that they'd let Nora and I in."

"Why", the doctor asked. "Because you two live on the streets?"

"Yeah", Nora replied. "People don't like 'street rats' like us."

"Not everybody is like that", the doctor pointed out.

Then...he gave me a piece of paper.

"What's this", I asked in confusion.

"It's a map to the school", the doctor replied. "Just go there and see if they'll let you in or not. You never know. They may surprise you."

One Hour Later

I was looking at the map the doctor had given me as Nora and I walked along the streets of Kuchinashi.

"According to this map", I started. "The school is not that far from here."

"So", Nora started. "What do you think? Should we go and see if they'll let us in?"

"I guess that it wouldn't hurt to try", I pointed out. "The worst that could happen is that they tell us to leave."

"That's true", Nora agreed. "But what will happen if they do let us in?"

"I honestly don't know", I replied. "But if fate decides to be kind to us for once, then maybe we won't have to live on the streets and scavenge for food anymore."

"Since when has fate ever been kind to us", Nora asked.

"Well", I started. "It did lead us to each other."

"That's true", Nora agreed. "But what if only one of us gets in?"

"Then we both don't go", I replied. "End of story."

"Right", Nora agreed. "Because in sickness and in health..."

"...We share joy and pain", I finished.

This caused Nora to smile, and for me to smile back.

"Well", she started as she grabbed my hand. "What are we waiting for then? Let's get to the school!"

With that, we made our way towards a better life.
