RWMtB: Ever After

Bella and Angela: Play Date & Jessica

Angela laughed watching her son playing along with Bella's boy in the park that day. Joseph and J.J., while not born around the same time, were pretty much inseparable and were quite cutely the best of friends. She and Bella would plan play dates for the boys whenever they had a free moment in their schedules. With her being a writer, she did get some leeway unless she had deadlines to meet. And as for Bella, she had decided to become a free-lance photographer sometime after her and Jacob had gotten married, and the business was working out well for her. Thus, she had plenty of leeway to plan for little play dates for their sons.

She watched J.J. squeal and clap happily after throwing a soft block a few feet, and Joseph crawl after it. Turning to the brunette next to her, she spoke saying, "I'm glad we got to plan this for today, considering we had to cancel our last one."

Bella smiled and nodded replying, "So am I. And I'm really sorry about having to cancel that one. I had honestly forgotten I had taken on a client that day and at that time until they called to let me know they were headed to their chosen venue."

"Don't worry about it. Besides, I saw those pictures and they came out beautifully."

The brunette smiled and thanked her friend before turning back to the look at their sons. Only…their sons weren't in the spot they had been sitting in anymore. Blinking, a quick feeling of panic slammed into her chest and Bella quickly stood up, looking around the park as she searched for her son.

"Angela, where did they go?" Bella asked, the panic evident in her voice.

Angela, she too looking for her son, stood as well and said, "They couldn't have gone far. Come on, let's look for them."

The two mothers split up searching for their boys, desperately looking for the two young ones. Both were silently blaming themselves for taking their eyes off Joseph and J.J. and allowing them to get out of their sight. And unfortunately, all it took was a moment of them not having their eyes on them. They searched around for five minutes and when they had yet to spot the small boys, the panic had fully set in and Bella was about to completely freak out.

Rushing to the taller woman, Bella gabbed her arm and said nearly hysterical, "Ang, I can't find them! I can't find my baby! Or yours!"

The bespectacled lady was about to respond—all the while taking deep calming breaths to calm her own panicked feelings—when a familiar voice called out, "Angela! Bella!"

Looking towards where the voice came from, Bella and Angela were surprised to see their old friend Jessica Stanley standing with both J.J. and Joseph in an arm each.

Running over to her, Bella nearly snatched J.J. from the other brunette and hugged her baby boy close, peppering kisses all over his face while J.J. giggled and held onto his mommy. Angela, having taken Joseph from Jessica, hugged him to her chest while looking at her old friend saying, "Thank you, Jessica. I'm so glad you found them and thank you for bringing them back to us."

"It's no trouble," Jessica replied.

"No really, thank you so much," Bella said before taking an arm and wrapping it around Jessica in a grateful hug.

Jessica flushed a little as Bella let her go before looking down at her feet. She then looked up at the two girls that were once her good friends in high school, taking notice of how the years seemed to have been good to them, the rings on their fingers indicating they were married, and the toddlers in their arms marking them as mothers. They were living a part of a dream she had yet to achieve, and probably never would. Smiling sadly she said, "You two look good. The years have been kind to you."

Bella looked at Angela briefly before looking back at Jessica. "Not completely kind, but they're definitely better."

"And you're still friends with one another; that's great. I kind of wish I had maintained contact with others outside of Lauren."

Angela stared at Jessica, taking note of the melancholy expression that came over her face. It occurred to her that Jessica seemed to not be completely happy in her life now, if happy at all. And being business partners and around Lauren all the time was probably draining for her. Jessica had been engaged briefly to Mike Newton two years into their college careers, but that ended explosively and she hadn't really dated since. Instead she had thrown herself into work and from what she could see, Jessica was having a few 'what ifs' going through her mind at the moment. But that wasn't what she was going to concern herself with. No, what she was going to concern herself with concerning Jessica, was extending an olive branch and being a friend.

Smiling kindly to the brunette, Angela asked, "Do you want to grab coffee with us, Jessica?"

Jessica's eyes widened in surprise at the invitation. "Really?"

Bella, having caught on to what her friend was doing, smiled at Jessica and answered, "Really. Besides, I think after the scare we just had, this play date is over."

The three women let out soft laughs before Jessica agreed, soon walking with Angela and Bella out of the park and towards their cars. And the three of them could feel it in the air, their friendship starting anew in these new chapters of their lives.
