Author's Note: I hope you all enjoyed the last chapter, especially with Jacob catching Sarah and Seth. I know some of you want to know how Jacob handles it, but it's really up to your discretion what you think happened following the last drabble. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this one and the whole thing in general and stay tuned for more to come. I'm not sure how many more I will be doing, but wherever I stop, I know I'll be satisfied, and I hope you will be, too. XOXO, SehunsBae37.
RWMtB: Ever After
Embry and Sarah: Ghost Hunting
Embry had no idea what his goddaughter was doing or even thinking; he still couldn't believe Jacob had dubbed him Sarah's godfather when she had been thirteen, but he had readily agreed. Sarah had suddenly shown up on his doorstep asking for him to go on an adventure with her that night. It had seemed like a good idea when she said that it wouldn't take long, plus it would allow Angela time to put Joseph down to sleep. But he didn't think the girl would have him tromping through the woods near First Beach in the middle of the night.
After another ten minutes of walking around in the dark, Embry finally asked, "Sarah, what are we doing out here?"
Grinning, Sarah answered, "We're on an adventure, Uncle Embry."
"Yes, but what kind of adventure?"
"Ghost hunting." Sarah made her voice sound spooky and wiggled her fingers in the air trying to be scary and mysterious like, not that it was working but enough to emphasize her point.
Embry frowned and shook his head saying, "Sarah, there is no such thing as ghosts. And I highly doubt we'll find any here."
Sarah stopped at the edge of the woods that led onto First Beach and turned towards Embry, hands on her hips and looking very much like her mother at the moment. Pursing her lips she asked, "And how do you know?"
"Because I've never seen one."
"Doesn't mean they don't exist. Besides, I'm hunting for a specific ghost."
"And what ghost is that?"
Stepping out onto the beach, Sarah cupped her mouth and shouted into the night air, "THE GHOST OF TAHA AKI!"
Her voice rang in the sky, seemingly startling the night and making everything around them go still. The only sound that could be heard was the waves washing up on the shore, and even those sounded softer than usual. Embry felt some sort of chill go down his spine, but he ignored it in favor of walking onto the beach with his goddaughter. Shaking his head he said, "Sarah, no one has seen Taha Aki since the death of the Third Wife, and that was long ago. You remember the legend Billy told: Taha Aki stayed by the body of the Third Wife in his wolf form for three days, and afterwards when she was buried, ran off into the woods and was never seen again."
"Yeah, but what if it was these woods? The way grandpa told it, it seemed like her death happened here on First Beach, and those woods are where Taha Aki disappeared. What if both his, and the Third Wife's ghosts are still lurking here? What if they didn't pass on into the spirit world? What if we get to see them tonight?"
"The only one of the two I imagine we'd see—if it existed—is Taha Aki. But I'm not holding my breath about seeing that man, ghost or not."
"Well, I'm going to see a ghost tonight, and I'm not leaving until I see one."
Sarah, ever the stubborn girl, plopped down on her backside in the sand, legs and arms crossed as she stared down the beach to have a good view of the ocean and the woods. Embry rolled his eyes and sighed before moving next to her, sitting in the sand as well. He checked his phone and saw that it was nine-thirty PM. Putting his phone away, he said, "Alright, fine. We'll stay out here for a bit, but if we see no ghost in the next hour, I'm going home. I'm not going to be out here hunting for something that doesn't exist."
The two of them sat in silence, watching and waiting for any possible ghost or wispy figure to pop up somewhere. Many times, Sarah thought she saw one out on the water, only to realize it was the ocean mist. Other times it would be little clouds of sand from the wind blowing. Eventually, an hour went by with nothing happening or appearing, and Embry decided to go home and suggested Sarah did the same. Sighing in defeat, Sarah nodded and told her godfather she'd head home soon. Embry nodded and bid Sarah 'goodnight', telling her to be careful on her way home in the dark, not that he was too worried about her.
Sarah huffed and fell back on her back on the sand, sad that she hadn't seen the ghost of Taha Aki, or any ghost in general. Then again, she wasn't really hunting for one, but she thought First Beach was a good place to start. Standing up, Sarah brushed the sand from her clothes and headed back to the woods, walking through them to head back home. As she did, a whitish mist seemingly disappeared behind a tree. Blinking, Sarah walked to the tree where the mist disappeared, only to see nothing there. Frowning, Sarah wondered if maybe that had been a ghost, but shrugged it off before running back home. Oh well, no ghosts tonight, but she'd try again another night. There was bound to be some lurking around somewhere, after all.
Later that night, when the clock struck midnight, the white mist that Sarah had seen appeared outside her bedroom window, taking the form first of a magnificent wolf, and then one of a man, a man known only through legends told for generations.
Looking through the window at the sleeping girl, Taha Aki smiled before saying, "Midnight, the mischievous hour, is when you will see me one day, young one. Until then, Sarah Black."
Taha Aki turned and walked off into the distance, disappearing into the night with Sarah and the Black family sleeping peacefully, none of them the wiser to their late night visitor.
