"What kind of emergency? I mean how long do you think she'll be? An hour? Eight hours" Sara asked with her hand in her hair while talking on the phone to Kate's PA. "
"Oh… mass casualty. All hands on deck, great…" said Sara sarcastically.
"Anyway, thanks Anne. Keep me updated if you can? Okay bye" Sara sighed and turned to Erin who was at Sara's house for brunch. They both expected to have Kate there too.
"Emergency?" asked Erin and raised her eyebrow in question.
"Her PA said she was exhausted and she would get her home as soon as possible but that Kate really didn't have much choice but to take this surgery. Aggghh, fuck them for taking advantage of her like that" said Sara sounding frustrated.
"I don't know Sar… sounds as if she volunteers most of the time"
"It's not that easy… hospital politics"
"I guess you're right" Erin sighed. "Why don't I take Amelia for a playdate this afternoon. You can take your wife out to lunch and just give her some TLC"
"Don't know if she'll be done by then"
"Well, whenever she's done she's going to need to eat and hopefully come home?"
"Thanks Erin, I'd appreciate it. Think I'm going to go drag her out of there"
"Good idea" Erin laughed. "Well guess we shouldn't wait for Kate before starting breakfast then".
Sara started the scrambled eggs.
"How are you doing Sara? You miss Tegan a lot?" asked Erin while grating cheese.
Sara grunted and shook her head. "Yeah… like you won't believe"
"Me too… I spoke to her yesterday afternoon. Sounds like she's missing you too"
"Sound to me like she's absolutely fine without me"
"Is this about Cameron?"
"No… Maybe… I don't know E. It's not that I don't like the girl, I do! I just don't want her or Tegan getting hurt you know"
"I don't either. But I think they're both big enough to make their own mistakes Sara"
"Tegan is still grieving for her wife Erin"
"I know, but I don't think there's anything but friendship there"
"From Tegan's side yes"
"And how do you know what Cam is feeling?"
"I don't, I just…."
"I know, we all think Tegan's amazing and everyone in the world will fall in love with her after knowing her for two minutes"
"I don't think that" Sara snapped.
Erin raised her eyebrow.
"Well I do… and then more than one person pointed out to me that Tegan was not their type. They're great friends but that's it. Look at her and Kate for instance"
"Yeah… you're right. I just miss her and maybe I'm jealous that Cameron is hanging out with her and we're not"
"I know… me too. Any chance of scheduling a visit soon?"
"I really want to but Kate is just so flat out at work right now. She's not going to take time off"
"She should"
"I know… you tell her that"
"Can't you and Amelia go without her?"
"I suppose we can but truth be told… I don't want to go without her. I need her… I need to hold her hand on that plane ride"
