Sara just nodded and entered the room. She saw Kate lying on a gurney looking as white as the sheet she was on. She was holding an oxygen mask over her face.

"Kate, oh my god baby are you okay? Sara exclaimed and jogged up to Kate.

"Shit" Kate sighed.

"Is that how you greet your wife?' said Sara and took Kate's face in her hands.

"Uhm… Sorry…. Hi baby" Kate mumbled.

"You look terrible Kate! How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine Sara, I'm fine! I just… I'm just tired. Got a bit light headed" panted Kate. Her breathing was shallow and fast.

"That's not what I heard"

"I'm fine really" said Kate trying to get up.

"No, no, just lie down please" said Sax pushing Kate down yet again.

"Why did you call her? I told you not to call her" Kate exclaimed followed by a coughing fit. Sax put the oxygen mask in front of her face.

"Slow, deep breaths please" Sax said calmly.

"I told you not to call her!" said Kate under the mask.

"They didn't okay. And by the way we'll talk about that later, you are not off the hook there" said Sara.

"What are you doing here then?"

"I came here to find you. To drag you home or to at least have a coffee or a meal with my wife. I haven't seen you in ages"

"Oh" Kate breathed. She pulled the mask away and put her head back. She flinched.

"Uhhh" she groaned involuntarily.

"Baby? You okay?"

"I'm fine. Sara's here she can take me home" said Kate.

"Babe, the say you hit your head really hard. I can see you're in pain…"

"I had a headache before I… um…"

"Collapsed" said Sara.

"I won't call it collapsed. I got a little whoozy"

"So whoozy you were unconscious for almost 10 minutes" said Sax, now trying her best to get EKG leads onto Kate.

"I was?" asked Kate looking confused.

"Shit" Kate breathed and put her arm in front of her eyes.

"We need to examine you properly, do some blood tests and get you to CT please" said Sax.

"I'm fine! I feel much better thanks. I just need a moment"

"Baby please" Sara begged.

"I'm okay Sara, I just need to get my bearings" Kate was now panting. Sax unceremoniously put the oxygen mask back on her face.

Kate felt like shit. She was light headed and nauseous but she just wanted to get out of there!

"Kate just let us examine you and run a few tests please" Sax asked.

"No no no…. no…. I can't… I need to go… I… " Kate mumbled. She looked exhausted.

"Baby please" Sara begged.

"I'm okay" Kate huffed.

Sara burst into tears.

"Sar…It's okay…. " said Kate trying in vain to calm Sara down.

Sara wiped her cheeks and turned away. Her shoulders were still shaking.

"Honey… Come here" Kate said but she sounded weak and breathless.

"Can you give us a few minutes please?" Sara asked Sax.

"Okay, everyone out!" Sax instructed.

"Make it quick please, I need to stabilise her" Sax said softly to Sara.

Sara waited until the last person left the room.

"Katy baby, please, please, please let them examine you"

"But…"

"Shhh, just hear me out please" said Sara and sniffed.

Kate nodded. Sara took her hand in both of hers.

"If there's nothing wrong you get to go home, and I won't worry. If there is something wrong at least they can treat it as soon as possible. Please baby, you really don't look well. Sax is worried about you. I feel as if my guts and my heart are being ripped out. Please baby I just want you to be okay, please Kate" Sara begged through tears.

Kate stared at her looking shell shocked. Sara really was petrified. Kate felt shittier by the minute, so she just squeezed Sara's hand. "Okay" she whispered. "They can do what they need to do"

"Thank you… thank you my love" Sara whispered and kissed Kate's knuckles. She took a deep breath with her eyes closed.

"Let's get you into this gown huh?" said Sara and kissed Kate's cheek.

Sara helped Kate sit up and was completely terrified when Kate struggled to do just that small task. She managed to get the scrub top off and the gown on while Kate was leaning on her breathing hard and fast.

"Just… leave the pants… I'm not getting in bed… not getting admitted"

"Okay love" Sara agreed simply to not upset Kate further. Kate was trembling under Sara's touch.

Sara opened the door and found the entire medical team waiting for them. Sax right in front.

"She's ready for you" Sara said. Sax raced inside.

"Shit" Kate mumbled.

"Alright Morgan let's see what's up so we can get you out of here" said Sax. She then started rattling off blood tests. "Get me a fresh set of obs please. I want a 12 lead EKG and CT is waiting for us"

Kate just closed her eyes. "Try and stay awake for us okay" said Sax with her hand on Kate's shoulder.

"I'm just so, so tired" Kate breathed. Her head felt like exploding.

"I know, I'll let you get some rest just as soon as we're done with the CT. She's had her spleen removed this can be an infection" Sax announced to the room.

"Let's get these pants off and get you into bed" said a nurse.

"No, the pants are staying" Kate stated simply. The nurse just sighed and rolled her eyes.

"I need access to your legs for the 12 lead please" said a resident.

"Use my ankles" said Kate, eyes closed.

Sax looked at the resident. "Ankles" she simply stated. It wasn't worth upsetting Kate again.

The team worked fast and efficiently. They quickly attached monitor leads to Kate's chest, rechecked her blood pressure and drew blood. Sara stood by Kate's head with her palm on her cheek. "It's okay. This will all be over soon. I'm right here, not going anywhere okay" she kissed Kate's forehead.

"BP's 90 over 73, pulse 125" somebody said.

"Hmm, enough to make me worry" Sax mumbled. She took her stethoscope from her neck and listened to Kate's heart and lungs.

"Lungs sound clear and her chest x-ray earlier was clear"

"Sats are up to crap though, 87 on 10 litres. Cap refill is 3 seconds" said a resident.

"Up her oxygen to 15 litres, non rebreather mask"

"Temp's 100.4"

The EKG monitor was switched on and Sax turned to study it.

"I'm sorry baby" Kate whispered to Sara.

"Shhh, just relax now" said Sara stroking Kate's hair.

"EKG looks okay so far, fast but that's normal sinus" said Sax pointing at the rhythm strip being printed out.

"Get those bloods to the lab and tell them to put a rush on it. Belly soft and non-tender" said Sax while palpating Kate's absomen.

Sara looked scared. Kate touched her hand where it still lay on her cheek. "They're over reacting. I'll be fine okay" she said.

Sara just nodded trying to keep her tears inside.

"Can I have some water please? So thirsty" Kate asked.

"Sorry, not until we've cleared your head" said Sax.

"Ice chips, anything" Kate begged.

"When we're done in CT okay"

"Please!" Kate begged, her voice hoarse.

"Sax please?" Sara asked.

Sax sighed. "Okay, just some ice chips. I have to keep you NPO for now"

"That's bullshit" Kate mumbled and greedily accepted a spoon full of ice chips.

"Alright let's move, CT is waiting for us" Sax said. They started pushing the bed.

"Ugh, whole hospital's going to see me" Kate complained.

Sax took a surgical drape and dramatically put it over Kate's face to break the tension. "There you go" she laughed out loud. As angry, tired and unwell Kate was she couldn't help laughing. She pulled the drape off. "Asshole" she said softly to Sax and shook her head with a weak smile.

The bed started moving towards the door. "Sara" Kate exclaimed suddenly panicked.

"I'm right here" said Sara taking Kate's hand.

"Sara" Kate said desperately.

Sara bent down to put her ear closer to Kate's mouth.

"Please don't leave" Kate asked softly.

"I'm not going anywhere baby. I promise. It's okay" Sara whispered. She kissed Kate's forehead.
