A/N: Hi! The song used is Conversations in the Dark by John Legend. Make sure you play it in the background yourself (on repeat). It'll help ;)
I, of course, do not own the rights of the song!
Until then she had never been on a wedding. Even though the man and woman were renewing their vows, it felt like they were doing it for the first time. Throughout the whole day she had felt butterflies from time to time, but for as far as she knew she wasn't in love with someone. She guessed it was just the idea of getting married herself someday. Or bigger, renewing vows like Mr. and Mrs. Yagami were doing today.
It wasn't something her parents would ever do in a million years. They were way too traditional for that. But when Taichi and Hikari told them about their parents renewing their vows, she could immediately picture it. Hikari was very emotional when telling, making her cry too. Taichi on the other hand was just proudly smiling with that significant smile of his.
With his mother's father death a view years ago, he was the one who brought his mother to the altar. He was glowing, showing off his beautiful mother linked to his arm. She could only wonder how much he would glow when his own wedding was once there. Or how much she would glow when she was the bride walking down the aisle. But for now Sora was taking in as much of this day as possible.
Taichi was giving a speech to his parents, making them and the other guests laugh and cry at the same time. He grew up fine she thought to herself.
The guests were ready to applaud, but Taichi made them hold. "So," he directed his eyes to his mother. He was such a mommy's boy.
"Now it's time for the father-daughter dance. But because the father of today's bride sadly died a view years ago, I wanted to change the father-daughter dance into something else," he was quiet for just a second. Sora shifted her gaze from Taichi to his mother, seeing her tear up a little, and back to him.
"A mother-son dance," he said while he made his way towards her, smiling from ear to ear. Yamato's band made ready for a performance, the guitarist starting off with a slow and sweet melody. Sora felt her heart skipping a beat.
"Can I have this dance?"
Another skip. She didn't know why exactly, maybe it was the song. Sora looked over to Hikari for a second who was still standing at the side. She could see Hikari was touched by this act too. Sora guessed it wasn't because of the music, but because of her brother. And her parents. It was probably this whole situation.
Talk. Let's have conversations in the dark
World is sleeping, I'm awake with you
With you
Yamato's voice was light in a way he didn't sing most times.
Sora shifted her gaze back to Taichi and Mrs. Yagami slow dancing. Smiling to each other, taking in the moment. They were so close, it seemed so warm and loving. Generous.
Watch movies that we've both already seen
I ain't even looking at the screen
It's true
I got my eyes on you
It looked intense. In a good way. Sora thought it was very special they were able to share such an intimate moment with all of the other guests. She felt her lips curl into a genuine smile while her eyes teared up as well. A little taken aback by her sudden emotional reaction she placed her hand lightly over her mouth.
Sora never saw her best friend as the gentle kind. She was surprised to say at the least to see him being so calm and tender for once. He was fragile and wasn't afraid to show it.
And you say that you're not worthy
You get hung up on your flaws
Well in my eyes you are perfect
As you are
She was also surprised by his dancing skills. His feet moved lightly and careful around his mother's feet. He was definitely leading and didn't look insecure. Had he been practicing? That would be cute, Sora thought.
She snapped out of her thoughts when someone lightly squeezed her arm. She turned her head only to meet Hikari next to her. She smiled to Hikari, not knowing what to say to her. However Sora knew Hikari just needed someone to share her feelings with. So Sora intertwined her fingers with hers and squeezed them a little while looking at her before turning her glance back to the dancing couple.
I won't ever try to change you
I will always want the same you
Swear on everything I pray to
That I won't break your heart
While Taichi and Mrs. Yagami were still being the stars in everyone's eyes, Mr. Yagami walked straight to where Sora and Hikari were standing. Once arrived he extended his hand to his daughter, motioning her to dance with him. Sora noticed Hikari shaking a bit before seeing her laughing and tear up again. She let go of Sora's hand to place her hand into her father's.
I'll be there when you get lonely
Keep the secrets that you told me
And your love is all you owe me
And I won't break your heart
Sora couldn't help but smile again. She felt goosebumps as she saw the Yagami family altogether at the dancefloor. In some way it was cheesy, but no one minded it. It was sweet. And Sora felt privileged to be there to witness.
On Sunday mornings we sleep in 'til noon
Well I could sleep forever next to you
And we, we got places we both gotta be
But there ain't nothing I would rather do
Than blow off all my plans for you
A switch. Mr. Yagami now dancing with his wife left Taichi to dance with his little sister. Which he gladly accepted. Their bond as siblings was always amazingly strong. A true inspiration to lots of others with brothers and sisters. Sora envied their special connection.
Taichi held his little sister very tight. Hikari being shorter than her brother was resting her hands on his chest. The right side of her head leaning on his right shoulder, she seemed at peace. Sora thought about how safe it would feel in his warm embrace.
And you say that you're not worthy
And get hung up on your flaws
Sora felt she was staring at the siblings holding each other so closely. She watched Taichi lip sync with the lyrics.
But in my eyes you are perfect
He shifted his gaze upward, looking straight into Sora's eyes as he lip synced the last line. Sora felt her cheeks fluster. Her heart skipping a beat as her chest filled itself with warmth.
As you are
What was happening here..? Was he… Did he just… Nah…
I won't ever try to change you
I will always want the same you
Swear on everything I pray to
That I won't break your heart
She blinked her eyes, she imagined it. Taichi had lowered his head again, pressing his head against his sister's. Or his head was always lowered. She wasn't able to tell.
She also couldn't help but smile though. With her heart pounding faster every second, Sora was still staring to Taichi and Hikari.
Again he lifted his head to meet Sora's eyes.
I'll be there when you get lonely
Keep the secrets that you told me
And your love is all you owe me
And I won't break your heart
And again he lip synced the whole thing. To her. But why? She felt the butterflies coming back… Taichi…?
When no one seems to notice
Without noticing the boy, or should she say man, was standing in front of her. Holding out his hand to her. Showing her a gentle and sweet smile. One she had never seen before.
And your days they seem so hard
"Can I have this dance?"
My darling, you should know this
She gladly accepted. Her eyes a bit watery, her cheeks showing a bright blush, her heart pounding, her stomach filled with butterflies and her legs a bit wobbly.
My love is everywhere you are
His hands were trembling too a little bit. Was he nervous? It didn't matter though. It felt safe and warm so close to him. A gentle slow dance she wished to never end for now. Her head now resting on his shoulder. His head lightly pressing against hers. Squeezing her hands lovingly, holding her in a sweet embrace.
I won't ever try to change you
I will always want the same you
Swear on everything I pray to
That I won't break your heart
She somehow knew he was again lip syncing. Or maybe she hoped. She had never been so thankful to be so near to him. She felt at peace.
I'll be there when you get lonely
Keep the secrets that you told me
And your love is all you owe me
And I won't break your heart.
