It was dark. She stood under the light of the moon, and blood surrounded her.

The woman, who had long, loose dark hair and caramel skin, with a dark star on her forehead, wearing a long blue dress decorated with stars.

She was surrounded by Shadows.

"What are you doing!" A young samurai demanded. He was the Battousai, and though he recognized carnage and death as part of war, he had never seen it this bad before. It was unnerving.

"I am Chaos." The woman said. "This land is under my curse."

"Your curse is nothing." Battousai said.

"Tell me...Hitokiri Battousai." Chaos smiled. "What will you do..." She reached out, and ripped out a man's heart and took a bite out of it. She spit the blood in his face.. "When I am the one who holds your maiden's heart. What will you do when no one can see you? What good to your world is a Savior who doesn't believe?"

"Kurai did you hear about the festival tonight?" Reiko asked.

"Yeah, I'm just not into festivals." Kurai said.

"Cmon have you heard the music?" Reiko said. "The Summoner's Rhapsody. It's famous all over Japan."

They passed an amateur music group play the song.

For a moment, Kurai's eyes turned silver, and she saw a vision of herself battling with a samurai, brandishing a sword. The soldier pinned down and pointed a sword to her chest, then kissed her.

Kurai was confused. That kiss, just the memory had her a bit flustered.

Confused, Kurai headed home, and then stopped flat and whirled behind her.

"Who's there?" Kurai picked up a pebble and threw it.

It struck Kenshin, who was following her.

The wind swirled around them.

"Lunae..." Kurai looked up. The moon was gone; it was a New Moon. She shook her head. "No one's there."

She got back on the path and went toward home.

Dejected, but not to be deterred, Kenshin followed her.

After finishing her cleaning, Kurai was making ofuda charms for the shrine.

Kurai stopped.

"Hey..." Kurai said. "I...sense you out there...whoever you are..."

She breathed in and out, then whirled, nose to nose with Kenshin. Her warm hand ran over his cheek.

Her eyes flickered, silver, than blue again.. "I see now. You're Kenshin Himura. That's your name.."

"Oro?" Kenshin questioned.

A shadow passed the house.

Kenshin gripped his sword.

Kurai paused. "The way they're headed—the festival! Reiko!"

She jumped out the window.

"Wait! Kenshin called. He hadn't told her how to use her powers.

The festival was as loud as she had thought it would be. Kurai had to resist the temptation to plug her ears. She headed into the dark alcove where she knew Reiko was being attacked.

"No! Stop!" Reiko hissed, kicking the jerks away.

Kurai had to admit she was holding her own. Kurai leapt forward. "Leave her alone!"

"A-Aren't you one of us?" One of them hissed.

"Light does not always equate to good, and Darkness does not always equate to evil." Kurai recited. "I am nothing like you!"

"Do you even have any power?" The fighter laughed at her. "You're weak!"

"Well...I have..." Kurai realized she'd run off before Kenshin had given her any instruction. Stupid.

Kurai could hear in the distance. They had started their song.

Kenshin landed between them. "You should have waited for me."

The fighter aimed his sword at Kenshin's torso.

"No!" Kurai leaped forward, arm outstretched, and a silver light hit the fighters, knocking all of them out.

She was so shocked that she vanished.

Kurai opened her eyes and she was in her bedroom.

"Are you alright?" Kenshin asked, having beat her back.

"You didn't tell me." Kurai said angrily. "You didn't ever say that if I didn't succeed someone could be hurt. You did that on purpose to draw my power out!"

"I'm not going to lie but it was necessary—" Kenshin was cut off as Kurai threw his sword out the window.

Kenshin caught his sword, listening as Kurai used the summoning song to play her to sleep.
