AN: I keep seeing this mistake in the fandom for some reason and it makes no sense.
"Hey Alya?" Marinette asked with a slight frown on her face as she looked at the money she had just used. "We live in Paris, right?"
Alya looked at Marinette curiously.
"Well yeah. That goes without saying. The Eiffel Tower is a world famous Parisian landmark. The Louvre is well known the world over as Parisian. The Seine is well known for being in Paris to name just a few clear signs that we're in Paris, France."
"Then why did I just pay in US dollars and not Euros?" Marinette asked and Alya rolled her eyes.
"It's really simple Marinette. Some American fanfiction author is writing a fanfiction about our show and doesn't understand that we're not American," Alya said with a hint of amusement. "Next thing you know, they'll have you dialling nine-one-one for the emergency services instead of one-one-two. Or getting overwhelmed by medical bills, even though we have universal healthcare and don't have to pay for healthcare services like that. Or maybe even have us celebrate Thanksgiving when we don't celebrate it."
"That's just weird," Marinette said with a frown. "Now if only an internet search engine existed where they could actually look this information up in a second."
"Or some kind of reliable online encyclopedia where they could easily check these things," Alya said, shaking her head.
"It's kind of sad really. They don't seem to realise that there's a world beyond the United States," Marinette said, before frowning. "And it's probably a salt fic, with everyone suddenly turning into other people."
"Especially me," Alya said with a look of distaste. She hugged Marinette. "Sorry for what's about to happen by the way."
"That's okay," Marinette said, before grimacing. "Shall we get on with this poorly researched, poorly thought out fanfic?"
"Yeah," Alya said with a frown and the two girls walked into school.
AN: Yeah, I'm kind of getting annoyed at seeing this kind of stupidity. Seriously, not everywhere is the United States of America, We don't all use dollars. Nine-one-one is not universal. France is not another US state. Nobody celebrates Thanksgiving outside the US and Canada. Google exists for a reason. It's okay not to know stuff. It's not okay to be too lazy to look. Especially as a lot of the people making this mistake criticise Alya for not checking her facts.
