The King School for Careers – Where winners are made
"Arlo! Scarlet! Get over here now!" Barked Coretta, the head combat teacher at The King School for Careers.
They followed orders and ran straight over.
"So, as you know, this year we are voting on who we send into the arena, and I, want to send in my best fighters, that's you, how does that sound?"
"Cool!" Said Scarlet and ran off to go tell her best friend.
Arlo, had more of a problem than Scarlet,
"umm, Coretta, can I talk to you for a second?" Arlo nervously asked,
"what is it, make it quick."
"well,"
"spit it out"
"I don't really want to be in the games this year, I mean, with Roxy pregnant, and all,"
"well, who's fault is that? Yours. I do not care about Roxy. you are my best fighter; I am nominating you whether you like it or not."
Scarlett ran over to her best friend Mercedes to tell her the good news.
"Ce, guess what!"
"What?"
"I'm gonna get nominated for the hunger games!"
"you are?"
"Yeah, that's what Coretta said,"
"really? She said you, and not me?"
"yeah,"
"oh, cool,"
As training ended, Arlo walked over towards the gate where his girlfriend Roxy is waiting,
"Arlo! Come on let's walk to the reaping together!"
"Ok, I'll be right there!" he shouted. As he put away his weapons, his best friend Wyatt walked over, "hey, dude, wanna walk over to the reaping together?"
"I'm walking over with, Roxy, you can come if you want"
"nah, it's cool,"
When they get to the reaping Arlo gets his finger pricked and heads over to the 18 year old boys section, where Wyatt joins him a little later, While Roxy, Scarlet, and Mercedes, all head over to the 17 year old girls section.
Then, the district escort, Abbot Periwinkle, stepped out onto the stage, wearing a long blue wig that went down to her butt, with blue lipstick and a blue smokey eye, she completed the look with a short blue sequined dress, with only one sleeve,
"where did her other sleeve go?" Roxy whispered under her breath,
"it's fashion idiot," Scarlet Snapped
"I know" Roxy retorted back
"helloo, and happy hunger games, now, let watch a quick video from the capitol, and then I will explain how the reaping will work this year," Abbot said.
After the video Abbot stepped back up onto the stage,
"Now, how the reaping will work. We will do ladies first, and if you have a nomination you can come up to the microphone and say their name, and I will write them down on this white board and then once all nominees have been nominated we will vote by show off hands, majority wins! Now ladies first, may the odds be ever in you favor!"
A long line immediately forms
"Amber"
"Amelia"
"Sophie"
"Chloe"
"Scarlet" Coretta says
"I nominate myself" scarlet says
Mercedes has always had what she is wanted, and to have Coretta pick scarlet over her was not ok, Mercedes new that she was better than scarlet in every way and this would prove it.
After the votes are counted up Mercedes won by a landslide,
"that's not a big surprise" Wyatt said to Arlo, "I mean look at her, she's gorgeous" and he wasn't wrong she was one of the prettiest girls in the district, and she had been training since she was four and she came from a rich family, the odds were definitely in her favor.
"now gentlemen!" Abbot chortled
Coretta was the first one in line this time, "I nominate Arlo"
When Roxy heard this she was furious, she marched over to Arlo,
"Did you know?!Did you know?"
"I—I—"
"Answer me!"
"yes!"
"I'm gonna kill him, I'm going to kill him!" she lunged at his throat and knocked him to the ground, by now cameras had surrounded them, and two peacekeepers had to pry her off mumbling something about hormones and nothing to see.
After that show there wasn't a doubt in people's minds and Arlo won easily.
