Where's Peggy ch6

"YOU LET HOWARD DO WHAT?" yelled Peggy, all the men except for Daniel backed away from her quickly. Daniel only stayed where he was because he was kept in place by Peggy's feet on his leg. Peggy stood up and advanced on Jack, who threw his hands up.

"It wasn't like we could do anything to stop him." Said Jack.

"Couldn't do anything to stop him? You could have locked him up in a safe house with a constant guard. Ever since the initial attack on New York we've known that they, or at least Ivchenkov, are after Stark. Why on earth would you let him go?" asked Peggy.

"They sent a note, give them Stark get you back, honestly it wasn't much of a contest." Said Wallis.

"I've heard about the note. What happened to protecting civilian lives? While yes, Howard is not the best kind of man, he is a civilian." Said Peggy.

"You know what?" I think we should go collect Jarvis and Ms. Martinelli out of their safe houses. What do you say Wallis?" asked Smith.

"Yeah let's go." Said Wallis.

"Take care of Dottie's body while you're a it." said Jack.

"You got it boss" said Smith before the two men hurried out of the SSR, nearly at a run.

"I'm gonna go get Kat out of the interrogation room." Said Jack, running out of the room. Peggy paced, Daniel laughed, Peggy glared at him until he stopped.

"Sorry Peg, but you have to admit that it's a little funny how they're scared of you." Said Daniel, walking closer to Peggy and pulling her with him until he was backed against the desk.

"You need to sit back down, you're aggravating your injuries pacing around like that." Said Daniel.

"I'm fine Daniel." Said Peggy, moving away from him.

"No you're not. What happened Peggy? What happened to make you so strong, and so damn stubborn? You need to stop worrying about other people for a minute, and worry about yourself. Take care of yourself first, or you'll be no use to any of us down the road." Said Daniel.

"How can I stop? I need to make sure Howard's ok." Said Peggy, moving over to the phone on Daniel's desk.

"I understand that you care about Howard. But you need to take care of yourself too." Said Daniel.

"How-civilians- come first, they always do." Said Peggy, dialing the phone and putting the receiver to her ear. Daniel knew that she was about to say Howard.

Peggy, you can barely walk, no one expects you to go after the doctors on your own." Said Daniel.

"And an assassin." Said Peggy as she held the receiver to her ear.

"Excuse me, didn't you say that Dottie's dead?" asked Daniel.

"There's a second, come from the same program, I only saw her once." Said Peggy. A minute later she hung up with a sigh.

"He didn't answer, what time was Dottie supposed to pick up Stark?" asked Peggy. Daniel checked his watch.

"Right about now." said Daniel.

"Dammit." Cursed Peggy, Daniel was about to reply when they were interrupted.

"Get your hands off me!" shouted an angry sounding girl.

"Would that be the orphan?" asked Peggy.

"Yeah, Kat, she doesn't sound very happy." Said Daniel.

"I'm only trying to help!" came Thompsons curt reply.

"What did he do now?" asked Peggy as an angry girl stormed into the room with a bleeding agent behind her.

"Kat! What's the matter?" asked Daniel.

"What's the matter? This bozo had me locked away in an interrogation room for several hours!" said Kat.

"Why don't you explain to her, why that was Jack?" asked Peggy, a smile playing across her lips.

"Oh I suppose it was because of my age? Tell me is every eleven year old you know a spy, or out to hurt you? What are the qualifications of becoming an agent? Brains cannot be one of them. Tell me am I free to go or would you like to question me on my recent escapades in the New York alleys?" asked Kat.

"Sorry for how you were treated, you can go. Be careful." Said Daniel

"Nice punch." Said Peggy, noting Kat's scraped knuckles and the blood seeping out of Thompson's nose.

"Thank you." Said Kat before walking quickly out of the SSR.

"How did she manage to get your nose?" asked Peggy.

"When I entered the room she looked like she was still asleep, evidently she was not, when I bent over to wake her up she punched me." Said Jack.

"Well done, we are lucky that she did not decide to join Dottie's ranks, sounds like a mini Peggy Carter." Said Daniel.

"I didn't start quite that young, thank you Daniel." Said Peggy.

"When did you start?" asked Daniel.

"I joined the military when I was nineteen, right when Germany invaded Poland. And you're right, Kat could be of further use to us. Clearly, Dottie took a liking to her, maybe the other assassin feels the same way." Said Peggy.

"I don't know, it's hard for me to believe that these girls feel anything. They're trained to follow orders, and they seemingly don't care who they hurt or kill along the way." Said Jack.

"Where are we going with all this?" asked Daniel.

"If we can get her back in, maybe she can lead us to Howard." Said Peggy.

"Should we check out the place you were held?" asked Jack.

"I doubt they're still there but it can't hurt, let's go." Said Peggy.

"Hold it, you're not going anywhere." Said Daniel.

"Excuse me?" asked Peggy.

"I'll get the car ready." Said Jack awkwardly, hurrying out of the room.

"What do you mean 'I'm not going'?" asked Peggy.

"You need to take a break. You haven't slept or eaten in days, you have a cut on your head, a broken arm, you told me your ribs are messed up and you have a sprained ankle. You need to go home, get some rest." Said Daniel.

"I don't have a home to go to. I lost my place at the Griffith, and the Stark house is considered a crime scene now, considering there have been two abductions from there in the past week" Said Peggy. Daniel didn't respond.

"You are neither my boss, nor my father, nor my brother nor my husband. You have no right to tell me that I can't go on this mission." Said Peggy.

"C'mon Sousa, Let's go! Carter you're staying here, that's an order." Said Jack.

"But-!" protested Peggy.

"No buts, it's not because you're a dame, but because you're injured, I'd say the same to Wallis, Smith or any of the others if they were in your shoes. Stay here Carter, or you're fired." Said Jack.

"You're bluffing." Challenged Peggy.

"Try me." Said Jack.

"Damn you." Said Peggy.

"Try and get some sleep, there's a cot in the back." Answered Jack before he and Daniel exited the SSR.

"So did you tell her?" asked Jack as he and Daniel got in the car. Daniel smirked but didn't answer right away.

"Well?" asked Jack.

"What can I say Thompson? I don't kiss and tell." Said Daniel, Thompson laughed.

"Listen to us, we sound like gossiping schoolgirls." Said Jack.

"You started it." said Daniel. They stayed silent for a few minutes.

"So how mad do you think she is?" Jack asked Daniel.

"Well, I feel sorry for Wallis and Smith when they get back." Said Daniel.

"They'll have her friend, Ms. Martinelli, and Jarvis with them so they should be ok." Said Jack.

"Yeah, you're right." Said Daniel.

They were silent the rest of the way, finally arriving at the factory twenty minutes later.

"You take the elevator to the top, I'll start down here. We'll search floor by floor and meet somewhere in the middle." Said Jack, Daniel nodded his agreement and the two men parted ways at the entrance, guns at the ready.

Daniel cleared the tenth floor quickly, it was basically a long hallway with only one room. It was evident that Dottie had slept in the single room, along with a second women, as there were two beds. Unfortunately, there was nothing to identify their second assassin. Daniel moved down to the ninth floor. The first room he walked in had two desks with two chairs, but nothing else, it looked as if it had been cleaned out in a hurry.

"Probably after Peg escaped and killed Dottie." Said Daniel before moving on to the room right next door. When he opened it his heart stopped beating for a second. There was a chair, the one Peggy was strapped in. It was covered in blood, there were also pools of blood on the floor. Daniel hadn't realized that Peggy had lost that much. Daniel felt sick to his stomach, but he looked around the room anyway, to make sure the bastards didn't leave anything behind that could help them finish this once and for all. Once he determined there was nothing left, Daniel left the room quickly. And opened the last door on the floor. This room was completely empty except for a small chair and some rope, there were also a few bloodstains here. Must have been where they kept her initially, thought Daniel as he closed the door and headed towards the elevator.

The eighth and seventh floors each only had rooms full of old factory machines, looked like they hadn't been touched in years. Daniel headed back to the elevator around the corner when he heard the door open. Immediately raising his weapon, he moved swiftly around the corner.

"Whoa, just me Sousa. You clear this floor?" asked Jack.

"Yeah, did you find anything?" asked Daniel.

"Just where the doctors were sleeping, but they cleaned it out. You?" asked Jack.

"Oh you know, nothing much except the room where the assassins were sleeping, and the room Peggy got tortured in. Blood's still fresh." Said Daniel.

"Damn, and they cleaned out everything?" asked Jack, Daniel nodded.

"Alright, let's get back to the SSR." Said Jack, Daniel nodded in agreement.

They got back to the SSR half an hour later. They walked in to find Peggy sitting at her desk with the phone attached to her ear.

"Are you quite certain you're fully booked?... Alright, thank you." Peggy put the phone down with a sigh.

"I'm afraid I'm sleeping here tonight, Jack. Did you find anything?" asked Peggy.

"No, where are Wallis and Smith? I expected them to be back by now. And I told you, cot's in the back. Frankly I'm surprised you're not asleep already." said Jack.

"Smith and Wallis have come and gone, a while ago now. You guys were gone for a long time." Said Peggy.

"Where's Angie staying? Surely you could find a place with her?" asked Daniel, Peggy shook her head.

"Angie has gone to visit her brother in Philadelphia, she of course offered to let me stay with her there but I declined. Jarvis and his wife have gone home, they offered me lodgings but I don't feel right intruding and plus they don't have the space to put me up." Said Peggy.

"Ok, well I'll see both of you tomorrow, I'm gonna get some sleep." Said Jack before leaving.

"Will you be alright?" asked Daniel.

"Of course Darling, go home and sleep, you look worse than I do." Said Peggy.

"You're ridiculous, you look beautiful." Peggy smiled shyly, there was an awkward silence before Daniel continued.

"Listen Peggy, I'm sorry, I never meant to suggest that you couldn't handle yourself in the field. I didn't mean to imply that you are not capable. You are smart, and strong and a much better agent then most of us here. But you can't run yourself into the ground. I-I can't watch that happen. I know that you don't need it, but I feel like I should protect you, if not from the world then from yourself." Said Daniel.

"You were right, to tell me to stay here. I've been alone for a few hours, I've had plenty of time to think about it, and you were right. I'm exhausted, I think I'll go to bed. Thank you Daniel." Said Peggy, getting up from her chair and walking over to him.

"For what?" asked Daniel.

"For letting me know someone cared, it's been a while since I've had that. I've worked so hard to prove myself in our line of work that I seem to have forgotten how to make sure I don't run myself into the ground. I didn't have any support in the beginning, not even from my own parents. But that's a story for another time. Goodnight." Said Peggy, kissing Daniel lightly on the lips.

"Good night." Said Daniel softly. Peggy smiled at him before turning away and heading off to the bed in the back. Daniel waited until she disappeared from view before he himself turned and left the SSR. He had to remember to ask her about her past later, what made her decide to go into the military, and how come her parents didn't support her.

I'm sorry for the late update. I'm trying guys, I really am but I am incredibly stressed these days as it's the end of the school year and I have the SAT coming up and exams and projects and essays…I'm sorry. I hope you guys liked the chapter, please leave a review!

Btw I have no idea what the layout of the factory is so all that was made up. Oh and I have a question for you, does anyone know when/how the Black Widow program got it's name?

Thanks!
