A/N: Let me start by saying that this is FANFICTION! It is not real so I can ignore certain rules. So for the sake of this story and only this story the legal age to be a U.S. Senator is twenty-one not thirty. This story takes place after Jonathan's death in season 5. Clark has succeeded in gaining Jonathan's Senate seat, which was for the United States Senate not the Kansas State Senate! Clark and Lex are friends not enemies and Lex knows Clark's secret!
"Senator Kent! Senator Kent!"
"How does it feel to be the youngest Senator in the history of this country?"
"What do you say to critics who believe you only defeated Lionel Luthor due to sympathy for your father's sudden death?"
"Okay people that's enough! The Senator will be releasing a statement in due time." Lois said before shutting the door to the Kent farm behind her.
"Darn vultures. Don't have a clue."
"Hey ease up on the insults Lois. I was one of those darn vultures as you put it." Chloe said from beside her. Martha laughed from where she was standing in the kitchen, enjoying the back and forth between the two. Lex smirked from where he sat on the sofa, amused as he always was by the two. They reminded him of what he and Julian could have been if his brother had survived to adulthood.
"I'm not sure Lois. Maybe they're right. I mean what do I know about politics?" Clark asked as he sat down in the chair, throwing his coat to the side.
"You don't. That's the reason you won. People don't want some billionaire whose only thought is for their own pocketbook. What they want is someone who actually cares about them, who knows what it's like to work hard just to put food on the table."
"Farming's going to be a whole lot easier than dealing with politicians."
"If you can face down my father Clark, Congress is going to be no problem. Now you need a breather."
"In a few Lex. What else do we need handled as far as staffing Lois?"
"Well you've got your Chief of Staff, your Press Secretary and your personal assistant. The rest are just minor details that can wait until Monday." She replied, and Clark smiled.
"Good. Then I want you as my Chief of Staff and Chloe as my Press Secretary." He replied, making Lois and Chloe look at him in shock.
"Smallville we don't know-"
"You ran my father's campaign Lois, and you ran mine. Chloe is the best reporter I know. But more importantly, I can trust you which is something that will be hard to come by in Washington."
"You're sure about this?"
"Absolutely."
"I'll do it. But I want a raise." She told him, and he laughed.
"I'll see what I can do. Chloe, what do you say?" He asked, and she smiled.
"Of course I'll do it." She replied, and he grinned.
"So how do you want to handle your personal assistant?" Lois asked a moment later.
"Compile a list of candidatesas soon as possible and get them here."
"Here? Clark most of these people are-"
"More comfortable in an office building I'm sure. But I want, no I need my personal assistant whomever he or she may be, to be just as comfortable here. I don't intend to spend every second of the next six years in Washington D.C. Now can you help Lois on this Lex? Find some people that might fit that bill?"
"I'll do it. Give me two days." The older man replied, and Clark nodded.
"Enough shop talk. Newly elected Senator or not, no politics at dinner." Martha said, bringing food from the kitchen into the dining room.
Luthorcorp
"You understand what I need you to do?"
"Yes Mr. Luthor. I'll take care of it. By the end of the year Clark Kent will either resign or be forced out."
"That's my girl."
