So I got a reviewer who asked me why didn't I have Daniel ask Peggy to stay with him, that is a very good question and I hope my answer is satisfactory. I understand and have read many fanfictions that play it out that way and it is very sweet but also historically inaccurate. While yes Peggy is very modern and independent it does not follow, at least not to me, that she would go so far as living with a man. And also the way I'm writing Daniel, I don't believe that he would ask her to do that. That's my opinion, if you disagree that's fine but I hope you don't stop reading because of it.
Another question was am I hinting at something between Angie and Jack? I don't know, I like the idea of them but I'm conflicted at the same time.
"Wake up, Mr. Stark. We are going on a trip." Said Ivchenkov, roughly shaking Howard's shoulder.
"Where are we going?" asked Stark as he woke up slowly.
"You shall soon see." Said Ivchenkov as he and Lucy, the Russian assassin, loaded him up on a gurny.
"Why are you taking me wherever you're taking me?" asked Howard.
"Shut him up." Said Ivchenkov.
"Sweet dreams, Mr. Stark." Said Lucy before hitting him hard over the head.
"Where are you going?" asked Zola.
"Russia." Said Ivchenkov.
"Why? This wasn't part of the plan!" said Zola.
"It was always a part of my plan." Said Ivchenkov.
"What about our plan? What about Hydra?" asked Zola.
"Both will still be here when we get back." Said Ivchenkov.
"But"
"Focus, Zola, on the sound of my voice. Are you listening?" asked Ivchenkov.
"Yes" said Zola.
"Everything will be fine, we will be back in a few days." said Ivchenkov.
"Ok" said Zola.
"Very good. Let' go Lucy." Said Ivchenkov.
"Yes sir." Said Lucy, and the two left, Lucy wheeling Stark on the gurny.
"Damn Doctor." Said Zola, long after they left.
Angie and Jack entered the L&L Automat together.
"So, what do your agents usually get for breakfast?" asked Angie.
"Breakfast burritos. We have coffee back at the company." Said Jack.
"Hey Mack!"
"Angie! My favorite waitress, are you coming back to work?" asked Mack.
"Not today Mack, just here to place a breakfast order for some friends who have been helping me this past week." Said Angie.
"Alright, what's the order?" asked Mack.
"Twelve breakfast burritos to go." Said Angie.
"Coming right up." Said Mack.
"Angela!" called out the manager.
"Hey Bobby." Said Angie.
"Are you finally getting that sweet ass of yours back to work darling?" asked Bobby.
"Not today Bobby, you see, my friends are helping me through a real tough time. I just got the news a few days ago." Said Angie, tears forming in her eyes.
"What happened?" asked Mack as he handed over a bag of food to Jack, who in turn handed him some money.
"My sister. She…she was only ten years old. She got sick and the doctors couldn't save her." Said Angie, tears streaming down her face as she openly sobbed.
"Alright, Alright! Come back whenever just get out of here before you scare my customers away." Said Bobby before heading back into his office. Immediately Angie stopped crying.
"You don't have a sister." Said Mack.
"Shh." Said Angie, putting a finger over her lips.
"See you later Mack." Said Angie.
"See you later Angie." Said Mack.
They got back to the SSR a few minutes later.
"We have food!" said Angie.
"Hallelujah, I'm starving." Said Peggy.
"We brewed coffee while you were gone." Said Smith.
"So, story time. That's the second time I've seen you cry Angie, and I feel like the first one was faked too." Said Jack.
"Huh, you are smarter than you look." Said Angie.
"So you were faking? When we asked you questions about Peggy." Said Daniel.
"Remember how it started right as Gam-Gam here got near the window?" asked Angie, Daniel and Jack nodded.
"I was on the other side, standing on the windowsill. I exited the window in my room and made my way over to Angie's. before she could help me climb through you guys knocked on the door." Said Peggy.
"So I improvised, do you really call your grandmother 'Gam-gam?" asked Angie, Jack nodded sheepishly.
"You could have died." Said Daniel.
"I could have died a lot of times over the past few weeks. It's part of the job." Said Peggy, bringing her burrito over to her desk and sitting down.
"I know, that's why I think you should take some time off." Said Daniel quietly.
"Daniel. We've been through this. I don't need a break what I need is to get back out into the field and kill Leviathan once and for all." Said Peggy.
"Sorry Carter but you're not going on any missions until you get a clean bill of health." Said Jack.
"Says who?" challenged Peggy.
"Your boss. I'm chief now Carter." Said Thompson.
"Says who" challenged Peggy again.
"Said Dooley. You know he left me in charge when he went to interview that prisoner. You know I was his second in command." Said Jack. Peggy got up from her seat, and doing her best to hide the limp, walked over and got in Jack's face.
"And you know that you're a power hungry asshole who freezes up when things get tough and yet takes all the credit. You who is supposed to be our leader, our fearless chief, who gives his agents shit because he knows they can't talk back for fear of losing their position."
"That's enough, Carter!" said Jack, his face getting redder and redder.
"Peggy take a breath." Said Daniel, trying to get in between them
"What? Are you tired of hearing a woman speak so? Do you think I would be better off in the kitchen? Or as a housewife, patiently waiting for her husband to come home as she knits and sews and cooks." Challenged Peggy.
"I said that's enough." Said Jack.
"Did I touch a nerve?" asked Peggy innocently.
"Carter, you crossed the line in more ways than one." Said Thompson.
"Would you like me to leave? That's what Dooley usually did, he would send me away whenever I made him uncomfortable." Said Peggy, she received no reply.
"Very well then." said Peggy, grabbing her coat and limping out of the building.
"Peggy where are you going?" asked Angie, about to follow her.
"No, let me." Said Daniel.
Unfortunately for Daniel, Peggy wasn't in the mood to be talked down by anyone. She was walking very fast for a girl with injuries to almost every part of her body.
"Peggy, please stop." Said Daniel, she didn't.
"At least slow down Peg, let the crip catch up to you." Said Daniel. That got Peggy to stop.
"You shouldn't call yourself that Daniel, it only gives other people the right to do so." Said Peggy. They were in central park, and as it was the middle of the morning on a Wednesday, not many people were around and those who were paid the couple no mind.
"What's wrong Peg?" asked Daniel softly.
"I'm tired." Answered Peggy.
"Of what?" asked Daniel.
"Men telling me what I can and can't do." Said Peggy.
"Peggy, as much as I dislike Thompson, he's not the same sexist jerk he was a few days ago. He's still a jerk, just not a sexist one. He wasn't implying that you are incapable of going on missions, all he was saying is that while you are injured you cannot be allowed to go on missions. Like Jack said yesterday, it is not because you are a woman, but because you're injured. You know he would say the same to any man who got hurt too." Said Daniel.
"I know. It's just frustrating sometimes." Said Peggy.
"I understand that. Do you want to go back?" asked Daniel.
"Tomorrow, I figure we both deserve a day off." Said Peggy.
"What do you want to do?"
"Well, I hear the Yankees are home today and so I bought two tickets, would you like to teach me about American baseball?" asked Peggy.
"Sounds swell." Said Daniel smiling.
