"Tell me something else." requested Howard.
They had landed in Russia five minutes ago. It was cold, there was snow on the ground.
"First, you tell me where we are." Said Ivchenkov.
"Finell…my invention…all those soldiers, men and women. They all died right here, because of me." Said Howard.
"Why did you invent such a heinous weapon?" asked Ivchenkov.
"It was a mistake, it wasn't supposed to be a weapon at all. I was asked to make it by the Allied Armies. But I couldn't make it work. The prototype was stolen and used by the Russians, I had nothing to do with it." said Howard.
"Somehow, I don't believe you." Said Ivchenkov.
It was the bottom of the 1rst, the Yankees were up to bat. Daniel and Peggy had seats behind first base. Jo Dimaggio was up to bat.
"So that's the famous Dimaggio?" asked Peggy.
"Yup, here's hoping he hits a home run. Get the Yankees in the lead." Said Daniel.
"And is that Marilyn Monroe in the dugout?" asked Peggy.
"So you're not completely hopeless when it comes to American culture." Said Daniel, nodding.
"She put on a few shows for the armed forces to try and raise their spirits. I thought she seemed very full of herself." Said Peggy.
"Have you actually met her?" asked Daniel.
"She threw herself at Captain Rogers, so yes, I met her briefly because I was with him over there." Said Peggy.
"Of course." Said Daniel, chuckling. The Pitcher threw the ball right down the middle. Dimaggio swung and hit it.
"There it goes!" shouted Daniel as the ball sailed into the crowd on the opposite side of the pitch. The first homerun of the game which was now 1-0 in favor of the Yankees.
"That was amazing!" said Peggy as they were leaving the ballpark after the game. Peggy put her arm through Daniels as they walked. The score had been 4-3, with Dimaggio scoring the winning run at the bottom of the ninth.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it." said Daniel.
"I did, and now I think I can settle that bet with Thompson. Whether or not Dimaggio was in the club that night." Said Peggy.
"Finally." Said Daniel with a relieved sigh, Peggy chuckled.
They were interrupted by Smith running up to them.
"There you are, Thompson wants you both back at the Office. We've found a body and think it might be connected to our Russian assassin." Said Smith.
"Where?" asked Peggy.
"At the office." Said Smith.
"No, I mean where was the body found." Asked Peggy.
"At the office, or in front of the building." Said Smith.
"Is there a message? That seems to be their forte, bodies and messages." Said Daniel.
"Painted on the body, in blood." Said Smith.
"No. Something's not right. That's too sadistic for one of our assassins. They are trained to do as they're told, kill whoever they're told, do whatever it takes to complete the mission. Quickly and efficiently. Writing on their victims in the victim's blood is not their style, this is someone else entirely." Said Peggy.
"But the body was placed right in front of our office, he was killed somewhere else but moved here." Said Smith.
"Then it is a message to us, definitely, but I agree with Peg. I don't think the assassin had a hand in it." said Daniel.
"What was the message?" asked Peggy.
"Hail Hydra." Said Smith.
"That's not possible, Hydra has been destroyed." Said Peggy.
"You know what they say. Cut off one head and two more will grow in its place." Said Smith.
"It might not really be them. Maybe just someone trying to strike fear in our hearts." Said Daniel.
"Nevertheless, it looks like our break is over." Said Peggy.
"Let's go." agreed Daniel.
"Finally." Said Thompson when they arrived at the Office.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Said Peggy.
"Who found the body?" asked Daniel.
"Ms. Martinelli, she said she needed some air, that she was going on a walk. A second after she left I heard her scream. She's drinking some tea inside now. Wallace is looking after her." Said Thompson.
"My God, I can't believe I dragged her into this." Said Peggy.
"Do we have an ID?" asked Daniel.
"Seth Harrisburg. I want you and Carter to interview family and friends, find as much as you can about him." Said Thompson.
"What's the address?" asked Peggy.
"4201 Central Avenue." Said Jack.
"Let's go, we'll take Jarvis' car, he won't mind." Said Peggy.
"Can you drive?" Asked Daniel.
"Yes, of course." Said Peggy.
"I meant because of you ankle." Said Daniel.
"I'll be fine. Let's go." Said Peggy.
"Alright, we'll see you later." Said Daniel, Jack nodded.
They arrived at the house forty minutes later. It was a small cottage painted yellow with a bright red door.
"There doesn't seem to be anyone home." Said Daniel.
"Well let's knock and find out." Said Peggy before knocking three times on the door. A moment later it was opened by a girl who looked about eight years old. Peggy crouched down s she could be at the girls level.
"Hello. My name is Peggy, what's yours?" asked Peggy.
"Grace." Answered the girl softly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. Is your mother home?" asked Peggy. The girl nodded her head.
"Mum is in the kitchen." Said Grace.
"Can you show us the way?" asked Peggy. The girl shook her head.
"Why not?" asked Peggy.
"Mum and dad say I'm not allowed to let strangers in the house." Said Grace.
"Could you ask your mom to come to the door?" asked Daniel. Grace shrugged.
"I guess that would be ok." Said Grace before leaving. Peggy and Daniel waited for about a minute before Grace's mother came to the door.
"Hello, how can I help you?" she asked.
"Mrs. Harrisburg?" asked Daniel, the woman nodded.
"Yes?" replied Mrs. Harrisburg.
"We are agents from the Strategic Scientific Reserve." Said Daniel before he was interrupted.
"Grace why don't you go play with Hanna for a while? And tell her mother that we are out of strawberries." Said Mrs. Harrisburg, Grace nodded and ran off down the street. Mrs. Harrisburg waited until she couldn't see her daughter anymore before asking.
"Is this about my husband? Where is he is he alright?" asked Mrs. Harrisburg.
"I'm afraid not, might we come in?" asked Peggy.
"Is he alive?" asked Mrs. Harrisburg. Peggy and Daniel paused, unsure of what to say.
"He's dead, isn't he?" asked Mrs. Harrisburg.
"We are very sorry for your loss. Could we come in and ask some questions?" asked Peggy. Mrs Harrisburg nodded.
A shot rang out.
Mrs. Harrisburg fell back on the carpet in the entrance hall, a bullet lodged between her eyes.
I'm so sorry for not updating! I meant to get this up a week ago but I didn't finish it in time before leaving for a camp type thing so yeah. This is definitely not my favorite chapter but at least it's a chapter! Be back at some point.
