AN: For those waiting for a chapter for 'The Becoming' it won't be up till tomorrow if I get it finished!

Chapter Five

Christian paced the living room floor angrily. He'd gone to the tube station knowing in his heart and mind they would have been closed and there was no way that he would be able to get to Ana but he hadn't been able to sit back and do nothing. He considered getting a cab but he didn't have enough cash on him for that and it would have cost a small fortune, he'd forgotten his wallet at home in the rush. Then there were the buses but that would take hours. No instead he'd be the first person on the next tube and he'd get as close as he possibly could to Islington before he would go to Ana.

However, Police had come there and found him, local police who had apparently been informed to collect him and take him home. They'd been made aware that Ana may have been caught up in the bombs and not knowing if she could be a target they wanted to keep Christian at the house and safe, her parents had been brought over too. He had kicked off about it, he wanted them to take him to Islington, but they said that Ana was being moved to a safe location and then they would see about getting him to her.

"Fuck sakes I just need to know if she's safe." He growled while Gail brought Carrick and Grace some coffee and tea, Christian would not stop pacing and he was making everyone anxious and on edge, they didn't know if he was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

"She's going to be fine." Grace reassured, she had to believe that, or she would be a crumbling mess in the corner, so until anyone told her otherwise then she had to believe Ana was fine.

His mind was imagining all sorts. Mainly Ana dead and broken on the concrete after being caught up in the explosions. It had all started with an explosion in the Emirates Stadium ahead of the Arsenal game and Christian had been relieved knowing Ana was far enough away from there, she wouldn't have been caught up in it though he knew she'd possibly have trouble getting out of Islington as they always stopped the trains when there were terrorist incidents.

Then as he'd sat with the news on, trying to contact Ana, breaking news had come through that there had been multiple explosions in Chapel Market. Christian knew that was the street the Islington Labour Constituency office had been. He'd been out the door before anyone could stop him and even though he knew it was pointless he'd planned to go to the tube station to see if he could get to her regardless.

When he'd been stopped by the police he'd been devastated, they had no news on Ana other than they were aware she'd been caught up in it but not knowing if she was a target they wanted to ensure her family's safety. Yet all he wanted was to make sure she was safe.

"Christian." Gail gasped turning the volume back up on the TV. Christian spun around, his heart racing as he saw who he knew to be Ana on her knees doing what appeared to be CPR or something on someone who had been blurred out.

"This is some amateur footage we received from a member of the public, the individual helping the victims has been identified as the Member for Parliament for Chesham and Amersham Miss Ana Steele. I spoke with the person who shot this footage and he explained how Miss Steele 'took control of the situation' and immediately started helping people. She dragged an injured person to the Labour Constituency office, it's believed that it was the Leader of the Labour Party Douglas Hall though this had not been confirmed. Ana Steele, it is said, has been helping multiple victims even though it is believed she may be injured herself…"

Christian stormed out of the living room and flew through the front door where the two local police officers were guarding the property. He was unable to control himself due to the anger and the fear that was flooding through his veins.

"Why the fuck is Ana running around helping people and you're fucking guarding me here like some prisoner?" Christian screamed, he was beyond furious especially hearing how Ana was hurt but not taking care of her own injuries.

"Sir they're all held up in the Emirates at the moment, as soon as they'll be able to someone will get her to safety." The officer replied, there was nothing else he could offer but that. Many officers from outside London had been called in to help but it was going to take time for them to get there.

Christian shook his head, gritted his jaw and returned to the house to watch the news, hoping more information would come soon. At least he knew Ana was alive, that was something he could hold on to for now, but he was desperate for more information. The news channel had now managed to get a camera and presenter to the scene. They were speaking to witnesses, walking wounded and uninjured people who had been nearby when the explosions happened. Christian had to listen to them describe the multiple bombs that had gone off, and every single one of them talked about Ana who was running around and taking charge.

"She hasn't got any shoes on, but she doesn't seem to care. She's just trying to help as many people as she can." The young woman who was being interviewed explained when she was asked if she had seen Ana. "She's getting other people to help too. Proper taking control, which is good seeing as we've not yet seen any emergency services. At least someone is trying to help."

"Thank you." The news reported said before the camera turned back to her alone. Christian sat with his elbows on his knees, his hands together by his lips fumbling profusely. This was his idea of hell. He was angry with Ana for not getting out of there, getting to safety. But he knew that was her heart, she had the biggest heart and she cared for everyone. More and more footage started emerging now too, some from Emirates which they were reporting had been blown up from the carpark, multiple car bombs causing devastating injuries and multiple deaths. Meanwhile, in Chapel Market there seemed to be no sign of any ambulances arriving to help, instead, members of the public, including Ana were hard at work. Christian shivered when he saw more footage of Ana, everywhere there was a body, the footage had been blurred, they would not be responsible for showing unidentified victims on the news. But they wanted to show Ana, she was in complete control, going from one person to the next and Christian could tell she was checking pulses and then doing whatever she could to treat any injuries. How she could be so brave and in control he had no idea. He would have been hiding away, taking care of himself.

She was covered in blood, that much was obvious to anyone who saw the footage and Christian prayed quietly that it wasn't her blood, that she wasn't injured even though people thought she was. She didn't look too hurt, other than the blood and the weird scarf she had wrapped around one of her arms.

"That girl is going to be the death of me." Carrick broke the silence in the room. "You'd think she'd get out of there."

"She's being Ana." Grace replied softly, her heart yearning for Ana to come home while she also felt pride seeing her responding the way she was. "Taking care of others before herself, she's always been like that."

Carrick shook his head, he would rather they'd have a selfish daughter who would put herself before the others right now but no, Ana was the most selfless person that he'd ever come across. He looked at the ground and sighed heavily, he just wanted his little girl to be safe. Grace wiped away her tears, they were ones of relief knowing that Ana was alive, though she knew it wasn't over yet. Until she saw her daughter and held her tight it would be hard to believe she had survived yet another atrocity. She gazed absentmindedly at the fireplace, wondering how the hell Ana had been caught up in yet another terrorist attack. It didn't seem fair whatsoever. Yet again though, in the initial aftermath, Ana was taking it all in her stride. Last time she'd hid until she knew it was safe to come out and then she'd had to deal with the world's media till people stepped in and rescued her and brought her home. This time, no one was rescuing her but instead of hiding, she was helping those who were worse off than she was. It made Grace's heart jump with pride, her incredible girl was so strong when she needed to be.

If there was any good that had come out of this, so far, was Grace and Carrick knew that Christian loved Ana. Watching him now, they knew that more than they knew anything else. He was desperate to get to her, to make sure she was safe and to take care of her and he was frustrated that he was stuck in the house just watching TV. His nostrils would flare, and a vein was pulsating hard in his neck. They could feel the anger and frustration that was rolling off him. There was nothing they could do about it though, they had to just let him stew.

"At four thirty-five this afternoon the first of a series of explosions went off at the Emirates Stadium triggering London's terrorist response. However, as all emergency services rushed to the scene another explosion went off. A couple of miles away, on a bustling street where people of all ages were enjoying the market the first of a series of bombs went off at about four thirty-eight, this triggered a series of explosions it's being reported between four and six individual explosions in total. The emergency service response to Chapel Market has been extremely slow as everyone had already been sent to the Emirates. However, we are now seeing police and paramedics starting to arrive and take control of the situation."

Christian looked at the little clock on the screen, it was now gone seven pm. Why the hell had it taken so long for the emergency services to respond? Would people have died because they'd been so slow in getting help there? It didn't make any sense to him and he squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head while trying to calm his racing thoughts. He just wanted to get to his Ana.

He looked at the TV again as Grace gasped. Footage was showing now of Ana lying on the ground beside what was obviously a body. The body was blurred out. They could just make out Ana lying beside it, her hand on them, comforting them maybe.

"This is recorded footage from a few moments ago of Ana Steele having taken vigil with an injured person on the ground, just as emergency services have started getting to work. It's been said to us by someone who communicated with Ana moments earlier that she is singing to keep the individual calm."

Christian choked on a sob, only his Ana would do something so caring in such a chaotic time. She was so selfless, taking care of someone who needed taking care of in a scary moment. She was incredible. He fell a little more in love with her watching the thirty-second clip on repeat on the TV. He couldn't believe it, that in all that chaos, Ana was lying on the ground singing, helping someone and comforting them. He knew that the individual would forever remember that moment, the moment Ana cared for them.

Unable to sit there any longer he went back to the police officers outside to make further enquires about Ana's safety, they had said she would be taken from there, but she was clearly still in Chapel Market.

"They're trying to get to her, hopefully soon." Was all the response he was given, Christian went back inside before he punched one of the officers and got into trouble, this was getting beyond frustrating now, he just needed her safe.

"She's an angel." Gail said quietly as he re-joined the family. He nodded, that she was. "She's saved lives out there today."

Christian wiped his hand across his mouth and jaw as he tried to think of something to do, he felt so helpless just watching the TV though he was glad to see the increased presence of emergency service workers. More and more of the survivors were speaking to the media, many who had come across Ana helping. They shared stories of her making tourniquets out of anything she could get her hands on, how she had directed people the constituency office to keep safe and how she'd got the McDonalds staff to bring water out to those who couldn't walk away from the scene.

"I've never seen anyone so calm." One said. "She's just in complete control out there. She's incredible."

"Thank you so much for speaking with us. So, it's been five hours now since the first explosion here in Chapel Market went off, and as you can see the emergency services are now responding after being held up at the Emirates. We've got no casualty figures as of yet but it's already being suggested this may be the worst terror incident to have hit the country with the death toll possibly in triple figures. The two-car bombs at the Arena and the multiple devices here in Chapel Market are believed to have been nail bombs, designed to cause as much death, destruction, and injury as possible. Though according to the eyewitnesses, there may be many down here alive because of the quick thinking and hard work of those involved including Ana Steele MP."

While they were all still worried about her and wished for her safe return home, each one of them sitting in that room was proud too. Ana could often appear naïve and vulnerable, but here she was facing the worst humanity had to offer and yet she was cool, calm, and collected, helping those in need.

New footage of Ana came onto the TV, it was dark now so much harder to see what was going on but there she was, still lying on the ground with the person. He was relieved when a police officer was seen going to her and she was eventually led away, which meant she would be safe. Thank heavens for that, now he just needed to get to her, one way or another.

He knew they'd come to him when he could go to her, so he helped Gail make the officers and Grace and Carrick some more coffee because knowing she'd be getting her injuries tended to and it wouldn't be long till he'd be told she was safe, he could relax a little.

Of course, what he hadn't anticipated was that the police officer who had led Ana away wasn't aware of who she was. When he enquired to the officers when he would be able to be taken to Ana they told him she hadn't been found yet, that the police protection agents who were trying to track her down didn't know where she'd gone. Christian was horrified and wanted to scream and shout, but he knew that wouldn't help. He breathed heavily, his lips pursed tight as he tried to control the rising temper inside him.

"Tell them to get Jason Taylor." He said carefully, his tone deathly while he did everything he could to control himself. "He knows her better than she knows herself." He said, remembering the bodyguard Ana had been given when she was an Education Minister. That man had learned everything he could about Ana, could anticipate her moves before she'd even made them.

"I'll let them know. We'll tell you as soon as we have her, until then I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait." The officer said apologetically while the other went away so he could talk into his radio privately.

"I know it's a terror incident, but she is high profile… if anything happens to her god fucking help the Metropolitan Police." He spat before turning on his heels and going back into the house to inform Ana's parents.
