Hey guys! Sorry no chapter yet, a new one will be posting in the coming days. I simply want talk about the two stories that put me on the top list of Red vs. Blue/RWBY crossovers on: Retribution and Soldier's Debt. I am going to compare both stories (in the state both are in as of now) and see which one is the best.
Retribution:
Starting off with the very first story I have ever written. Retribution's plot is very simple, the themes are very light hearted and funny. The Red's mission to restore the Blues, RWBY and JNPR's mission to help the Reds and Blues, Caboose's journey, Epsilon's quest, and Wash's mission all manage to intertwine themselves perfectly. Thus, creating a story that's easy to digest. You then have the interaction between both series' respective parties, and how they deal with their current situations. Which gives Retribution a breath of fresh air and a load of funny scenes that touch the inner fanboy of the reader. Each team has their moment in the spotlight, whether it's Sarge's acceptance of the Freelancer's using him and his friends, Ruby and Caboose's relationship, or Epsilon's quest for his memories. It just all finds a way to fit together in a rather unusual, but happy way. Despite this, there are somethings I can't help but criticize. Caboose's interactions are a little too mature in several scenes, Wash and the Meta in my opinion seem to be out of the story a little too much in Act 2, and there are some smaller things as well. But in the end, all the criticisms can be put aside, and the story as a whole is a fun adventure that perfectly blends the Red vs. Blue and RWBY series.
A Soldier's Debt:
Now as of now A Soldier's Debt isn't complete. As a matter of fact, hell, we not even half way yet into the story, but for now, hear me out. Unlike Retribution, the theme of A Soldier's Debt is much more darker, or at least its suppose to be. You have a militaristic Reds and Blues, who are trying to learn about Remnant and find Team RWBY. One thing I enjoy in A Soldier's Debt and the Remnant Timeline as a whole, is that I can be more creative in the story. Act 1 tells the events of Volume 2 and you expect it to end with Torchwick getting arrested. But then, curveball is thrown at the reader, Torchwick is killed, and Cinder's plan to destroy Beacon falls apart right in front of her. Another thing is Kai becoming the Fall Maiden, that was an idea that came up at the last minute, and I am happy that it was well received. The plotlines in Act 1 are also very easy to digest. You have the Reds and Blues war with Torchwick, Ozpin trying to learn about the Reds and Blues, and Team RWBY's investigation into the White Fang, it all goes together perfectly. Creating a good first act to the story. There are somethings I can criticize however, Torchwick's death shouldn't have been at the hands of Tucker. It should've been at the hands of Caboose...or indirectly caused by Caboose. Raven and Vernal's appearance while good and will be a plotline later in Act 2, does seem like its throw in the mix but ok nonetheless. Ruby and Caboose haven't interacted fully as of yet, that will be fixed down the road. But like Retribution, these criticisms can be put aside, and the story in its current state is fun and enjoyable.
So after some thinking, I have come to a decision. Retribution is hands down, the best out of the two in my opinion. The story is simple, has great character interact, action scenes, etc. On my account, it holds 130 favorites, 124 followers, and 144 reviews. But like I said before, A Soldier's Debt isn't complete yet, so this could change down the road.
But let me know you opinions. Leave a review tell me what you all like about the two stories. 3 good things about Retribution, and 3 good things about A Soldier's Debt. That is all, see you all in the next chapter!
