Chapter 2- Finding Answers

She finally let go of me and I stood there stun on her words. Then she started talking normal to me.

"My, this weather is nice today?"

"Uh yeah."

I quickly put the money down in her jar she had nearby and I headed straight to the library. The name she said just wasn't clear for me to understand. Could she be possibly be saying on who that creature was last night? And what did she meant that I was marked? All these questions were in my head but eventually I arrived at the library.

I got on a computer and looked up the name. The first thing that pop up were drawings of a mysterious being. Then soon I found articles that talked about sightings of this Slenderman. Though many sound fake and made up. Nothing came up that can clear my mind up about this whole situation. I was getting frustrated until a woman tapped me on my shoulder.

"Your time is almost up on the computer miss."

"Huh? Oh sorry."

"It's no problem though I couldn't help but notice you look a bit struggled on something. Is everything alright?"

"Yeah I just have a lot on my mind."

She looked at my computer and noticed what I'm looking at on my screen.

"Hey, I heard about this guy."

This caught my attention.

"You have!"

"SSSSSHHHHH!"

"Sorry."

"It's fine but yeah I heard some stuff. Here let's get out of here and go somewhere in the open."

And so we did and we ended up at a nearby restaurant. She introduce herself.

"My name is Kate. What's yours?"

"Elena."

"Nice to meet you. So why are you so intrigue of this person?"

"I don't know. This morning I had an encounter with some woman and she ranted something out about this thing. I wasn't sure on it so I was curious. Mostly though I was trying to find answers on this."

I showed her the marking on my arm. She didn't show any kind of shock. I continued.

"So I thought maybe this was all fake and I'm just over exaggerating it a bit. I'm not sure, my mind has been spinning since-"

"Since last night right? After with that boy."

"Yeah since wait? How do you know about that?"

"Know about what?"

I was silent for a moment but shrugged it off.

"Anyways yeah since last night. My heart would be racing yet I don't feel anything wrong. So do you know anything about all of this?"

"Well the story I heard is that this thing you say you encounter shows up mostly at night. In woods that people don't travel far in. A place that it calls home. Now I'm no expert but why not try to go out there tonight and maybe it'll show up."

"Idk, it seems scary to do."

"Hey if a boy trying to rape you wasn't scary enough then I think you can make it through this?"

Now that really raised some questions.

"Hold on how did you-"

"Oh look at the time. I have to go. Here call me if you have any more questions. Bye."

She left some cash behind before heading off. Still that girl really gave me some weird feelings. And so I headed back to my dorm and got myself ready. I prepared myself a camera, a flashlight, and some hiking shoes for my small trip. As night falls, I left my dorm and soon headed straight to the nearby woods.

She did say the woods is its home so maybe any kind of wooden area can work. I dig deeper into it while also navigating with my light. Then suddenly my area begin to get colder. I was lucky enough to bring a jacket and so I put it on. I continued on walking till a sudden movement made me jump.

I turn around to see it was my friend.

"Diana?"

"Elena, what are you doing out here?"

"Me? What about you?"

"I saw you leaving your dorm so I got curious. I thought you were going to see a boy. Then find myself here with you. And it's too cold."

Then my mind began to get worried.

"Diana you have to leave now!"

"Come on, you are looking for something? I want to join in on your fun."

"I know but this is something dangerous!"

Diana seem to notice my worried expression and finally agreed.

"Okay my bummer friend. Can I borrow your flashlight though?"

"Why not use your phone?"

"I left it in my room."

I sighed but said.

"Alright but be safe."

"I will don't worry."

I handed the light over to her and she begin to walk back. I turned my phone's light on and as I was about to keep moving. I couldn't help but turn around to see if she's doing alright. I can see the light shining on from a distance. Until for some reason the light stopped in one direction. Suddenly it started to move fast.

I noticed and rushed over to her. The light was just moving too fast even for a normal person like me. I wonder what caught on to her. The light soon stopped and I arrived at it. What I found was a cut off hand still holding on to the now bloody light. I flashed the light around and found a blood trail.

I followed it and it led me to a tree. I looked around the tree but didn't find anything. So I begin to walk away till I heard something hit the ground. I look over to its direction and found a severed head that belong to Diana. I then slowly shined the light up and found her headless body hanging on a branch.

I begin to breathe rapidly and I heard rustling to my left. I shined the light there but nothing was there. I started to back up but I tripped on the head of my once friend. I soon was laid back on the tree shining in every direction. The noise of footsteps came closer and closer than silence.

I got up and walked forward a bit. Then something landed behind me. I slowly turned around and shined my light at it. What I saw horrified me. This wasn't the Slenderman but this creature had a scary appearance. It wore a dirty white hoodie jacket with dirty jeans. Its hands had blood on it but looking closely they look like claws. It wore some kind of mask to cover up its face plus its hair was hanging out through the hood.

It was just staring at me. I wasn't sure on what to do. I started backing away till I bumped into something else. I turned around and it stood behind me. I fell to the ground and I just stared at the faceless creature. It seem to look over at the other creature and nodded its head at the other creature. The creature left and now it was just me and this Slenderman.

I wasn't sure on what to do. Yet it held its hand out. Its hand was big but I accepted the offer and it picked me up. Now we were staring face to well face I guess. It looked over to my dead friend and a voice echoed in my head.

("I am…sorry for…what she did…to your friend.")

"Uh yeah, I wish that didn't need to happen. What was that though?"

("I call her…my Chaser. She goes to…places I can't…access.")

"Alight but still Diana didn't have to die."

("I understand…but I need…to keep…myself a secret.")

"So why didn't you kill me?"

It move its hand pressed it over my head. I felt scared that it might rip my head off.

("I have…chosen you.")

"What does that mean?"

("I will…explain it to you.")

Soon a gust of wind blew around my area and I found myself around a giant lake. A lake that I am too familiar about. It spoke out.

("This is…my home.")

"Oh I see."

("Long ago…I was traveling…through the void…of space. Then I crashed…onto the planet…that is called Earth. I wasn't meant…to be here…yet I grew…fond of this place. So I made…this planet my…home.")

"Then why do many people have to die if they see you?"

("My existence…is meant to not…be exposed. I am aware…of these secret…areas you humans…keep my kind in.")

"Well technically it isn't fully confirmed about that."

("Either way…I have been…alive for many years. Now my life…is coming to… an end.")

"Huh? Here I thought you might have a long life span."

("Though I found you.")

I looked at it.

"What about me?"

("The marking I put…onto you will soon…bring fourth…an offspring.")

"What? But wait you mean?"

("Yes…you hold the…child of mine.")

This made my eyes widen and my body begin to get shaken up. I started walking in pace wondering how a creature like it can do something like that to me. So I asked.

"You mean you got me pregnant?"

("I understand that…you humans have…sexual intercourse to…bear a child. I done none to you…the marking is…what makes my species. We don't mate…but we have…our own ways.")

This wasn't making anything clear for me. So I looked over to the lake and decided to jump in it. I began to swim deep and deep till I was grabbed around my waist. It wasn't a hand but some kind of black tentacle. I was pulled out of the water and was put on dry land. It explained.

("Any attempt of…suicide is futile. Even in the morning…my Chaser has her…eyes on you.")

"Then what happens after I have your child?"

("That…is a surprise.")

I gulp down on my saliva and fainted. I found myself the next morning on my bed wondering again about the dream I had. But I slapped myself and realized it wasn't a dream. I got myself fixed up and I checked the camera that I had with me. Yet I forgot to record my findings. I got pissed and started to leave my dorm. As I was leaving through the front door Kate was there waiting for something. I walked passed by her but she noticed me. She walked beside me.

"Hey Elena, how did your night go?"

I ignored her and kept walking. We entered a coffee shop and I order something that can make my mind at ease. I sat down and Kate sat across from me. I took a couple of sip from my coffee while getting an odd vibe from Kate. That's when I noticed it.

"Hey Kate? What's that on your neck?"

"Hmm, oh I am not so sure. I might have got it during a crazy party that I went too. You know like you."

"Hold on, how do you know so much about me?"

"What do you mean?"

"You knew I was with a boy, my questionable 'tattoo', and just almost about what I am feeling!?"

"I have no idea what you are saying Elena."

I made an annoyed look and finished drinking my coffee and before I headed out she spoke out.

"Alright well I'll see you later. Don't start preaching about your dreams. Or they might end up like…Diana."

I stopped at my tracks and looked at her. She gave a happy smile and waved me goodbye. I left the place and started running away. It soon hit me that Kate is the Chaser.
