It was interesting the way the paint on metal seemed to corrode overtime. The frame itself and materials remained strong and steadfast, though the paint suffered. Much like meeting a person, their initial standing seems fresh and clean, but slowly that first meeting slowly chips away to reveal their true self.
"Park?"
Helen looked over to her left, spotting Sims crossing his arms and looking at her questioningly.
"Sims..."
"You doing Doc's job for the night?" Sims asked, as Helen nodded. "Figured as much, he seemed a lot more concerned tonight with phone calls than the usual...well...person"
"Adler is only one man, and now that we're all part of one team, we should be there for one another. Whether it be for camaraderie, or possibly stopping Perseus." Helen said, as she glanced down at the small black bag she held.
"Sure, well good luck in there Park" Sims said, as he walked past her and into the open doorway to her right. The door closed shortly after he left, leaving her once again all by herself.
'Right, time to tend to Bell and see if I can't pull anything out of him.'
A part of Helen felt a little guilty about what they were doing to the poor guy, but she knew it was necessary. Besides, Bell came out to be a rather helpful asset. Not only did he have absolutely no hesitation, but he was a cool under pressure, and dependable asset. And they could always use more of those.
Helen reached forward placing her hand upon Bell's door, and pushed it open. The door let out a creak, as inside the room was nothing but a small firelight coming from a lantern. Not much could be made out in the small metal room, save for a few neatly stacked piles of clothing on a chair. Bell was seated upon his bed, dressed in a striped short sleeve shirt, combat trousers, and a pair of black boots. His head turned to face her, and his posture stiffened for a moment, before relaxing. The orange lighting from the lantern stretched across his face, allowing his hardened features to be much more pronounced. His gentle brown eyes bored into hers, as he reached up and reflexively ran a hand through his hair as though making sure he was presentable.
"Hey Park, why are you here?" He spoke, his voice resonating through his metallic room. He placed his hands on his knees, as Helen stepped forward towards him. She leaned on the door frame, and watched him closely.
"I came to check up on you, I was just heading in for the night and figured I would bring along some photos for studying." She lied, as Bell nodded and looked away. He had a troubled look on his face, and a feeling of worry began to seep into her soul.
Was he beginning to remember?
Did he suspect Adler and her of being apart of a much grander plot?
Helen could feel a drip of perspiration begin to run down the side of her head, as she reached up and brushed her head and hair. "May I ask what's troubling you Bell?" She said, as Bell stared at the floor near his boots. He seemed to be thinking of the words, and how to say them as he eventually turned and looked at Helen.
"Park? Have you ever had deja vu? For longer than an hour?" He asked, as his eyes scanned her face. Park swallowed a lump in her throat, and let out a breath. "No, Bell, I can't say I have" she said.
"I've been having this feeling for what feels like since we got back from Vietnam...this nagging feeling that eats away at me" he said softly, "I can't..I can't quite put it into words, but it just feels like I'm forgetting something and it scares me."
Parks eyes softened, as she saw Bell begin to look at the floor. She set her bag down atop a pile of clothing, and stepped towards him. She crouched down and looked at him, "Bell-"
"Park, when you told me that I decrypted that log, I can't remember doing that." He said, as he looked at her. "I can hardly recall my time in Vietnam, or even my time with Adler and it scares me." His voice was beginning to rise slightly. His hands gripped tighter on his knees, as he took in a deep breath.
"Don't worry about it Bell, I'll be sure to have Adler take a look at you tomorrow. Okay luv?" She said in a soothing tone, as she placed a hand on Bell's shoulder.
"Okay..."
"I promise I'll make sure you won't forget a thing" she reassured him, as Bell looked at her and nodded. His gaze said it all, the way his eyes held that silent gratefulness, and the way his lips curved into a small smile. He was truly thankful to have her and the team there for him, and it killed her on the inside.
"Thank you Park"
Helen felt sick to her stomach.
"Please Bell, don't mention it"
"No I really mean it-"
"I know you do. But you don't have to mention it."
Silence ensued for a moment, as Bell seemed to remember his place. He cleared his throat, and glanced away from her. Park soon followed, as she stood back up and walked over to where she had set her bag down. She collected her things, and turned to look at him.
"Goodnight Bell"
She didn't even wait for a response, before leaving his room. She stepped out, and closed the door behind her. Upon hearing the door fully close shut, she rested her back against the wall and let out a sigh. She closed her eyes, and cursed herself silently.
Adler would have to wait until tomorrow to get her report on Bell.
