Whipped

"Look, it's just like I remembered," Steve said, pointing out the diner on the corner. "It's the only place that I found online that's barely changed in the years I spent in the ice."

Tony smiled. "Wanna go eat there?"

Grinning happily, Steve led the way across the road, tugging on Tony's hand to make him walk faster. Happy to indulge his boyfriend, Tony sped up a little, and they were quickly inside in the diner, seated at a little red booth.

"It's so old-timey," Tony said, glancing around the place. "It's like a scene from a movie or something."

"It's perfect," Steve said.

When they left the diner, Tony pulled Steve down the connecting street, peering in the shop windows with interest. It was a nice day, and he wasn't ready to go home just yet. It wasn't often that they got the opportunity to just… relax.

Especially not like this.

"That ladder's about to fall," Steve said, nodding his head at a man cleaning windows across the street.

"Go do your hero thing," Tony said, waving him off as he turned to look at the window. By the time Steve returned, he'd moved up three windows and was waiting impatiently for Steve to join him.

"Oh my god, Steve, look at her!"

Steve turned to see Tony staring into a pet shop window at the fluffiest cat he'd ever seen.

"We're having her," Tony decided, pushing on the door. A musical bell sounded, and Steve chuckled as Tony started talking to the shop owner immediately.

She clearly recognised them if the flush on her cheeks was any indication, and she hurried out from behind the counter to open the kitten's cage.

Tony picked up the little fluff ball and cooed over her like one would a baby.

"Tones… are you really getting a cat?"

"Yes. Yes we are."

"We?"

Tony looked up at him with exaggerated sad eyes. "You don't want a baby with me?"

Steve snorted and then looked at the shop owner. "We'll take her."

"This is your fault," Clint grumbled, holding up his trainer. The laces had been chewed to threads. "Letting him get the little demon floof."

Steve shrugged, not caring about taking the blame for something that made Tony happy. "She never chews our laces."

"That's because she knows he's a birdbrain," Tony said, coming into the room with Lola on his heels. Even as she was growing, her fur just seemed to get longer and more fluffier.

Before Tony perched on the breakfast-bar stool, he leant down to scoop Lola up in his arms. "And she's not a demon floof. She's a floofy floof."

Laughing, Steve shook his head. Lola was spoilt, even for a cat. She had her own room, even, though it was never used. She preferred to curl up in Steve and Tony's wardrobe at nighttime, usually on one of Steve's shirts.

She had pastel yellow blankets, and so many toys that a pet shop would be jealous, not to mention a castle scratching post, and four different beds because Tony hadn't been able to decide between them.

Steve knew he was generous, so he didn't know why he was surprised that that stretched to Lola too.

"I'm craving garlic bread," Tony added. "Steve can we have Italian tonight?"

Steve nodded. "Whatever you want, babe."

Filled up with garlic bread and creamy pasta, it didn't take long for Tony to pass out on the sofa, Lola curled up on his chest, purring up a storm. It was an adorable picture, and something of a relief for Steve, since Tony hadn't slept for three days.

Settling down beside them, Steve smiled when Tony automatically curled towards him, his head lifting to use Steve's leg as a pillow.

Steve stroked his hand through Tony's hair gently.

"You're so whipped, Cap," Clint said, snorting as he glanced over from the other sofa.

Smiling, Steve nodded. "I know."
