They're by the lockers when Michael Ceasar, his best friend and ally, comes running to him in panic.

"Yo! You heard? Collin Anderson is flirting with Jasmine."

Huey raises an eyebrow, determined to end the school day as quickly as possible. "The football boy?"

Michael shakes his head. "No, the hockey one."

"Huh. Good luck to him."

Ironically enough, the situation is unfolding just down the hallway, and Huey could actually get a glimpse of what's happening — if he could bother to.

Michael narrows his eyes. "You really ain't seeing this?"

"I don't really care."

Jazmine is giggling in that sunbeam tone of hers, and though it's barely audible from where he's at, it makes Huey stand on end. It makes him flashback to all the times he made her laugh, in summer by the tree, or on his bed on a warm afternoon, and it almost makes him smile.

Damn, he isn't even looking at her, and she's already bothering him. He probably needs help.

Caesar isn't done making a fuzz about the situation at hand, though. "Aww, man. He did the dimple smile!"

Huey just shrugs.

"And he's brushing his hair back. Not gonna lie, he does have great hair, no homo. But still! He's flirting with Jaz, man! If you're not careful he might just swoop in."

Huey rolls his eyes. Growing up with Jazmine meant an endless string of flirty white boys with clubhouse memberships. If anything, this is an everyday occurrence. He's used to this.

Plus…

He concentrates on her, on the juncture between her shoulders and her neck. Sure enough, it's there, just as Huey expects, a product of a rushed makeout session (and maybe a little more) from a few days ago. They really should've told Ceasar about it by now, but he has no doubt that Ceasar will pick up on it himself anyway. He didn't know love bites could get that dark, too.

He smirks.

He'll decide to end Ceasar's misery, though.

"Let him. As if Jazmine wouldn't dump him after two days of Cold Stone dates, anyway."

Michael sighs. "Fair enough."

Later that day, Jazmine approaches him with a beaming smile that lights up like a thousand suns, and Huey gets all warm inside when she pecks him on the cheek.

"How was class, Huey?"

"The usual. Useless bullshit."

Her lips curl up, and Huey resists the urge to kiss her on the spot. "That's cool. So nothing crazy."

"Nah. Anyway, speaking of..."

Huey brushes aside her curls aside, and the cool of his touch makes her blush. "You really gotta learn to cover shit up."

Her cheeks flare red, and she slaps his hand away at his smirk. "It's not my fault you're so damn territorial."
