The sea roared and the wind howled as a huge galleon crested over a rolling wave. At the top of the mast the Dutch flag proudly flew. The cannon ports were closed up as the sea battered the huge ship like a plaything. At the stern was a carved figurehead in the likeness of a lion roaring in defiance at the sea. In gold faded letters were the words Nieuw Nederland. Inside the captain's quarters a man paced up and down, up and down sometimes striding sometimes shuffling. As the wind battered his windows the old man looked up at the tainted windows before going back to muttering. Then suddenly the door burst open.
An exceptionally tall man clattered into the room swearing. The Captain looked up with his piercing blue eye. The tall man was drenched to the skin, his black hair that usually stuck up everywhere was now matted on his face. "Captain, the crow's nest has spotted land'" he panted. "How far?" replied the captain his one eye swivelling from the sailor to his desk.
"Around 3 miles". "Is it it?" said the captain. His one eye now rested on the crewmate. The crewmate paused as if nervous, "we think so we've consulted the drawing and the prophecy". The sailor saw a brief smile flit across his face. "Prepare to land" he ordered striding to his map. "The Prince will be pleased" he said muttering. "What was that sir" "Nothing prepare the ship for docking" the Captain snapped. "Yes Sir" the sailor said snapping to attention and he rushed through the door. The Captain pulled on his coat and stepped outside into the rain. Trailing bits of rope flailed through the air as the ship lurched back and forth. "Tie those up" he shouted dotted replies of yessir rang through the rain. As the Captain himself grabbed a rope and tied it up. "Klaus, how many miles till land" he shouted into a small boy's ear. The boy nodded and scrambled up the rigging to the crow's nest. Before descending back down. The boy leaned on tiptoes as the Captain leaned down "Klaus said the estuary is coming up, landing should be within 15 minutes". The Captain nodded "Thank you" he said before bellowing into the wind "15 minutes till landing prepare the anchor". Slowly you could make out the coast of a very long island. "Percy, tell Jan to steer to the tip. Drop the anchor at my command" "Yessir" replied the tall man who had previously stumbled into his cabin. Percy ran through the rain at full pelt never slipping or tripping on the wet boards. The Captain smiled and shook his head he would never understand how the boy did it. He guessed some are just born with the ability to do well at sea. As the land came closer the Captain could see the densely packed forests on the island and the beaches stretching the whole way round the island. He smiled he was in the right place, Klaus and Percy had been right. Not that they were ever wrong with Klaus' logic and good eyesight and Percy's gift of reading the stars and maps. This ship was one of the few ships that never went off course. The ship finally came to the tip of the island. The Captain raised his hand and Percy shouted "Now" the anchor dropped. The spoils of chain disappearing down the hole. The ship lurched and stopped, lying still.
