Authors Note: I apologies in advance for any mistakes in this chapter. The beta I did have isn't available until the 24th of October, unfortunately. But I still wanted to get chapters out to you all :)
I turned the lock on my door and slowly approached my bed with caution as if something is going to jump out and bite me or well... yeah? How would you feel if a voice suddenly popped inside your head, warning you about your family members and that they've left a box on your bed?
As I approached, I noticed some kind of colored folded paper I'd never seen before in front of the box. With a little shaking of my hands, I reached out and picked it up, slowly unfolding it. I sat down on my bed feeling like the air had left my lungs as I stared in shock upon seeing the first line.
I think I read it maybe five times before I continued to shakily read the rest of the letter.
To my beautiful princess,
I must warn you not to let your... the woman you believe is your grandmother know that I have written this letter and successfully given it to you this time. She had hidden all the gifts and letters I sent to you on your birthdays and Christmas over the years. They are all in the box on your bed.
You truly out-shine even your mother's beauty. But sadly she died giving birth to you my beautiful girl. You gave me a new strength to keep moving forwards in this world and to bring peace to my kingdom, to make it safe for you, for our people, and for us. So I can be with you in person! Soon my child.
In one of the gifts, I sent you is a locket the same one I wear around my neck and have done since you were born is a photo of me and your mother. I wanted you to not feel alone if you ever did and know you are loved beyond the stars and moon.
I must leave soon to set plans into motion. I need you to be aware you are not alone with your telepathy and that you aren't just a simple human girl. You for one are my only daughter but there are others out there, and one of those others may pay you a visit at some point in the near future.
His name is Eric Northman and because I plan on publicly claiming you within our communities I have to register you due to your residing in his area.
I can not tell more than that in this letter in case it falls into the wrong hands.
Just know that I love you.
Your father,
Niall Brigant.
I just stared at the last four letters in complete and utter shock and disbelief. Seriously?
It had been a few day's since I'd received the letter from my... father? And I had yet to really look in the box. I'd tried staying my normal self. But it was hard acting; when you've allegedly been lied to your whole life. It's been very confusing. I just did my usual routines and again tried acting as I usually would around my grand- Adele... I mentally slapped myself as I got out of the shower, and got ready for work, that's the only thing that's been keeping me from going truly crazy.
I'll look in the box in a moment. HE said something about a locket that I wasn't ready to look at after reading the letter for the first time, but curiosity was burning deep within me; and that curiosity was winning over the fear of what I might find, and the truth of the situation haunted me in my sleep these last few nights and the truth often hurts. Maybe finding the locket and seeing THEM will help my mind find it's way around this situation to a more peaceful state if I see it. rather than bouncing between anxiety over this and curiosity.
I picked up the letter I'd left on my night stand, surprised to find it still in the exact same spot. Sometimes she comes in and cleans, so maybe she hasn't these past few days? But that wasn't like her. Normally she's a clean freak and constantly doing some form of cleaning.
Taking a deep breath I then picked up the box i'd placed next to the night stand and started pulling out the envelopes and parcels. Where these really all for me? It found it so hard to believe! It would have been nice if HE'D left a bit more detailing of said locket, in which box it would be in. I'm glad it's rather cloudy out today, so this won't be interrupting my favourite past time of sunbathing before work. I'd done all my chores around the house too, having just had lunch it was now around one thirty, so I am now free for the rest of the afternoon.
After carefully organising the envelopes on the bed I then picked out all the smaller boxes. A locket would be pretty heavy right? So again I held the small boxes in my hands and put the heavier ones aside. There was about four of them that felt heavier than the other three.
Taking a deep breath I went over to my window seat and leaned against the cushions, as I gazed out over the forest tree tops, wondering who the fuck I am? IF I am not a Stackhouse, then who is Sookie? Is she a Brigant? What is a Brigant? Who are they? What would they expect of me? At least here in Bon Temps I know who I am, who my friends are and my daily chores and routines.
Shaking my head I picked the first box. A blue box that had Tiffany in silver letters across the top of it. I cringed at how expensive looking this looked. Opening up I saw a beautiful ring and earring set. Silver and the brightest of blue diamonds in a tear drop shape for the earrings and the ring oh my gosh! The ring is the nicest thing I'd ever seen. What would I do with that? Without fearing it is going to get ripped off my finger and stolen?
The ring had a mix of tiny silver and blue diamonds around the band its self; I noticed as I pulled it out of the box. For the rings central piece matched a slightly larger than the earrings tear drop a blue diamond taking centre stage.
I carefully placed it back in the box terrified of breaking it, placed it down and picked up the next box. It had nothing on the front of it or the back to indicate where it came from. So I slowly opened the deep purple lid off and my whole body froze and mind shut down.
There it was... the locket he spoke of. A solid gold oval shaped attached to a gold chain. I'm not sure how long I stared at it for. Not sure if I felt offended by the innocent necklace or curious about it. Taking another deep breath I slowly reached out for it with shaking hands.
It definitely felt heavier than the ring. This had to be real gold. What and who where these people? Why had my whole life been a complete lie? Why would Gra-Adele hide this from me?
Here in my hand held my truth, my past, and possibly my future. Closing my eyes, and leaning my head back agianst the alcove wall I used both my hands to find the opening of the locket.
Once I did, I kept my eyes closed, afraid of what I will see. The truth of this situation starting right back at me. After a few moments, I opened the latch on the locket, and felt it open.
Keeping my eyes closed for a few moments longer. I move my head so I'm looking down into my hand which holds my locket, in my right and slowly open my eyes.
There staring back at me is two beautiful people. Both blue eyed and blonde, a mixture of me! And then the traitorous tears started flowing down my cheeks.
