The sunflowers lost their ability to dance years ago. The humans claimed the flowers never did, but they were blind to all. The humans never saw the festivities of the Everafters, the sorrow they experienced during the war, or the close friends they lost, whether it was by death or by betrayal.
That was only five years ago. Since then, Ferryport Landing had fallen back into its old ways. To most, it seemed as though the town never changed, but the Grimms knew better than that.
When the war ended, it was upon Relda Grimm's, the eldest of the living Grimms, wishes that a sunflower field was created, each one meant to honor the fallen Everafters. Each Everafter that had lost a loved one planted a sunflower for them. The humans popularized the sunflower field when they returned to the picturesque town, admiring the beauty that the flowers held. But what they couldn't see was the graveyard that it truly was.
Sabrina Grimm tucked her long blonde hair behind her ear. A tear slipped down her cheek and she felt a knot in her stomach. The sunflower in front of her belonged to someone she loved dearly, and she hated herself for losing two years with them. She looked up to them more than anything. They helped her get through her hardest chapters in life, dealt with the countless times she made a bad decision, and were there for her even when she did not need it.
And they were dead.
