Happy birthday, Sabrina," Veronica stared at her now twenty-year-old daughter. She took the girl's hand and sighed. It had been nearly two years since Sabrina Grimm had been asleep. Sometimes, it felt as though she would never wake up. It pained Henry more than anything. He blamed himself for everything.
"You know, Basil really misses you -- we all do. I miss your smile, your laugh, please wake up, honey."
Veronica waited but the blond didn't move.
"Daphne, Red, and Percy are all trying to throw a party for you instead of the family gathering we held last year. Uncle Jake and Robin even said they would come."
Suddenly, Veronica caught a glimpse of Sabrina's hand moving. Then, the machine monitoring Sabrina's heart rate began to beep rapidly.
"Nurse! Nurse!" Veronica cried.
Nurse Sprat ran in and took a look at the machines, frantic.
"Sabrina's waking up," She said. Other nurses began to file in and asked Veronica to leave. She ran out into the hall and asked to use the telephone near the front desk.
"Is everything all right?" Henry asked when he answered the phone.
"Get here, quickly, Sabrina is waking up," his wife explained
"We'll be there as soon as we can," Henry hung up and Veronica sat down on one of the waiting room chairs.
Veronica waited for nearly an hour for news. What would happen? Would her daughter be discharged immediately? Would she hate her parents and family?
Henry placed his hand on his wife's and looked at her.
"It's going to be okay, 'Roni."
Veronica intertwined their fingers and leaned her head on Henry's shoulder.
"What do I even say to her? What if she hates us?"
"That's not going to happen. Everything will be fine, I promise," Henry kissed Veronica's head. "I love you."
"I love you too,"
Nurse Spratt approached. "She's awake. Henry and Veronica, you can come see her."
The couple stood up and followed their friend to Sabrina's room.
"Sweetie?" Veronica said.
"Hello, Mother,"
"Oh, honey," Henry and Veronica wrapped their arms around their daughter, showering her in kisses. When they let go, Henry took his daughter's hand. "I'm so sorry, Sabrina. If I hadn't -,"
"Father, it's okay, I'm fine."
"She can be discharged today, just go ahead and fill out this." Nurse Sprat said, handing them each a set of paperwork.
Henry and Veronica went back to the waiting room to fill them out and the others went inside, two at a time, to see Sabrina.
A few hours later, Sabrina was finally discharged and the family was sent home. The Grimms entered the house to find Rachel and Daniel on the couch with Elvis, the family dog.
"There's my birthday girl." Rachel went up and hugged Sabrina tightly. "How are you?"
"Better. What's all this?" Sabrina gestured to the decorations in the house.
"Just a little something for your birthday and coming home party."
"Thank you," Sabrina said, hugging her friend again.
"You're welcome. Now head upstairs until I call you down. And when you do, act surprised."
Sabrina laughed and did as Rachel said. She jumped onto her bed and sunk into the mattress. She sighed. She was happy to be home. She shut her eyes for a moment and opened them again. She assumed that she had fallen asleep because she woke up to the sound of chattering downstairs. She got out of her bed and looked in the mirror. She looked older, which made sense because she missed two years of her life but still, something felt strange. Sabrina took her hair tie out and messed with her hair some before heading downstairs.
Just as she had figured, many Everafters were downstairs waiting for her. Mayor White, her husband William, and their newborn, Ivory, Goldie, and many others greeted Sabrina when she entered the room.
The party was a wonderful time of reunification, though short-lived, as the guests left after just an hour. Sabrina helped her family clean up and Rachel spent the night. Henry allowed Daniel to stay, but only if he shared a room with Percy.
"Well, are you going to open them?" Rachel asked. They were upstairs again in Sabrina and Daphne's bedroom and Rachel was itching to see what Sabrina had gotten for her birthday. She still had her presents from her eighteenth birthday party.
"I guess I should," Sabrina said.
"You definitely should," Rachel folded her arms.
"Here, open this one," Daphne handed her sister a purple box. Sabrina opened it and found a sapphire broach inside.
"That reminded me of you. I think it used to be my grandmother's. Do you like it?" Rachel asked.
"It's beautiful," Sabrina admired.
Daphne, Rachel, and Red continued giving her gift boxes to open. It was a series of the same jewelry and dresses and perfume as expected, but Sabrina was still grateful for everything.
"This one is from me," Daphne said, handing her a white gift box. Inside were stacks of photos over the years of their family and friends. Sabrina sorted through them and paused when she found a picture of Daphne with a wand. It appeared that there was something coming out of it.
"What's that?"
"Magic," Daphne said matter-of-factly. Even though Rachel and Daniel we're humans, they had had enough encounters with the Grimm family to know that magic was real.
"But that's impossible,"
"Oh no," Red realized. "Sabrina, do you know who the Brothers Grimm are?"
"They wrote fairy tales, right? We're distant relatives with them or something?"
"Yes, but, it's just that. Fairytales are real, and they're real accounts of history."
"Really?" Sabrina asked with a twinkle in her eye.
"They are, and so are all the characters in them. They're called Everafters. I'm Little Red Riding Hood, Percy is Pinocchio, and Puck is, well, Puck. From Shakespeare. We're Everafters too."
"What story are we from?"
"Our own. Tobias, who is also the Big Bad Wolf, wrote our names in the Book of Everafter, which is a book that holds every fairytale ever and it can be changed adapted, and written in."
"Wow," Sabrina said.
"It is pretty cool. But you can't tell anyone." Daphne warned.
"We should get some rest," Rachel suggested.
"Hang on, there's still one more present." Red picked up a green box off of the floor. It was the present that Robin had given Sabrina. Her heart sank recalling their last encounter. She opened the present and saw a glop grenade inside. When she saw it memories of Robin throwing them at her made her smile. She was sad to think of how hurt he was after Rose broke up with him.
A note caught her eye. She pulled it out and opened it.
Grimm,
Happy eighteen, stinky. Sorry I've been gone. Here's a glop grenade to use on me whenever I'm being extra annoying. See you soon.
Puss Brain
"What does it say?" Rachel asked. Sabrina pulled the note back and held it to her chest.
"You're not reading this," Sabrina said. She was smiling like an idiot. When was Puck so sweet?
The girls still tried to get something out of Sabrina but there was no use. Eventually, they gave up and went to bed. And for the rest of the night, Sabrina could not help but think about Puck and magic and how wonderful the two were.
Sabrina, Red, Daphne, and Rachel awoke to a loud clattering coming from the kitchen. Sabrina was the first to spring out of bed and take action. She grabbed her sword and snuck downstairs, prepared to face any intruders.
She had surprised herself with her elite sneaking skills and her courage. It must have been like riding a bike to her. Sabrina entered the kitchen and held her sword to the intruder's neck, only to find that it was Uncle Jake.
"I see you're awake." He said.
"No kidding,"
"You can put the sword down now," Jacob looked down. He appeared to be calm but there was a certain look in his eyes that told Sabrina her uncle was intimidated. Sabrina smirked but was quick to apologize and explained how she had just relearned everything about their family and her senses seemed to be heightened.
"Noted," he replied. "Do you want to help me?" He pointed at the group of rings and necklaces that sat on the table. "I'm cleaning some magical jewelry that Robin and I found while we were gone."
"Sure," Magic had piqued the blonde's interest and she wanted to look at them more.
All her uncle seemed to be doing was taking old rags and wiping the jewelry off, so Sabrina decided to ask him about the pieces. She pointed to a golden wring that spiraled in its center and had a blue gem on it.
"That's an Unwerfamié ring. It allows you to control gravity. You can't fly with it necessarily but you could throw someone with it for sure."
"Fascinating," she slipped it onto her ring finger and admired it.
"Be careful, 'Brina. Last time you used magic you went a little crazy."
"I'm sure I'll be fine," Sabrina said. She walked off with a spring in her step and into the living room.
Puck was on the couch asleep when Sabrina walked in. He looked so peaceful and adorable and it made Sabrina's heart flutter. It made her so happy to think of him. She thought about waking him up but decided against it and instead sat down on one of the armrests to wait.
And then she sneezed.
"What?" Puck mumbled.
"Sorry," Sabrina said.
"Oh, it's you,"
"What's that supposed to mean."
"Go away,"
"No. What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing, I'm perfectly fine, future wife."
Uncle Jake was heard sighing in the kitchen. "Good job, boy. She doesn't know about that."
"Dammit," Puck said to himself.
"How did you know that we? What?" Sabrina asked.
Puck rolled his eyes and passive-aggressively explained to her the time that Sabrina and Daphne traveled to the future to find that Sabrina had married him.
"I'm sorry,"
"God, Sabrina, would you stop saying that."
"What did I do wrong, Puck?" The response even shocked Sabrina but she wanted to know why he had seemed so off to her.
"Don't talk to me," Puck got up and shoved past Sabrina.
"No, I want to know what I did," She grabbed the boy's wrist and pulled him towards her.
As all of this was happening, the entire Grimm house and their guests had come down the stairs before breakfast.
"I said I don't want to talk to you."
"Look, Puck, I'm sorry that Rose broke up with you but if you believe so strongly that we will be married in the future than maybe you shouldn't have even been with her in the first place."
"Well, maybe it happened and I didn't plan on it happening. Maybe I just wanted to try to be with someone because every time I have the option it's pressured and shoved in my face." Puck stormed off to his old bedroom and Sabrina looked down at her feet, embarrassed.
He didn't come downstairs for breakfast or lunch. Sabrina thought about going up to check on him but decided against it. Sabrina decided to go out to the field with Rachel. They brought snacks and a blanket with them and laid out under a willow tree.
"Puck seemed upset," Rachel remarked.
"I'm not sure. It's been two years. I know I just woke up but why would he be mad at me now? He doesn't have the patience to hold a grudge for that long."
Rachel laughed. "He's such a baby. Although, he didn't have the best family life. So, are you going to date him?"
"Robin? He hates me,"
"Possibly so, but you'll have to get married at some point." Sabrina looked down and saw the sun beaming on Rachel's engagement ring.
"And when were you going to tell me about your fiancé?"
Rachel smiled. "We met last year. He only proposed a week ago. You should meet him."
"I should have met him before he even asked you on a date." Sabrina sneered.
"You know I would call off the engagement if you had a bad feeling about him."
Sabrina smirked. She liked having that kind of power. "What's his name?"
"Ezra," Rachel said.
Sabrina looked up at her friend. "You're blushing!"
"I like him a lot,"
"I can tell,"
"We should get going," Sabrina looked to the setting sun.
The two friends stood up and made their way down the hill. Their timing was perfect, for when they arrived, dinner had just been put on the table. Surprisingly, Robin came downstairs to eat with the family. Though, despite his presence, he was still incredulously annoyed.
"You can't stay mad at me forever," Sabrina spoke up.
"Watch me," Puck replied.
"You know what I am done with you." Sabrina stood up from her place at the table and walked over to the fairy. "I don't know what is making you this upset but I'm done with it. If you won't tell me what's wrong then-," Sabrina looked down at the ring and at Puck again. "Maybe this will make you tell me," She pointed the ring at him and blasted him up against the wall. He fell into the china cabinet, shattering the dishes.
He wasn't bleeding but he was definitely in pain. Sabrina fumed for a few moments until she looked down at the damage she had done...what kind of monster would do something like that? Well, Sabrina knew. It was her.
"Oh, my -,"
"Sabrina Grimm go upstairs to your room right now!" Granny Relda ordered. Sabrina ran and locked herself in her bedroom for the rest of the night. She didn't let Daphne in and Rachel went home with Daniel later that night without saying goodbye. She couldn't handle what she had done. What kind of person could ever do that? She hurt him. All Sabrina wanted to do was to go to bed and forget about everything she had done. Maybe if she just went back to sleep and disappeared, everyone would be better off.
She shut her eyes tightly and let herself drift off to sleep.
A loud pounding on the door sounded when Sabrina woke up.
"Sabrina you're late!" Rachel yelled.
The blond jumped out of bed and opened the door swiftly.
"Finally, let's get going, they're waiting on you."
"Who is?" Sabrina asked.
"It's your wedding day,"
Sabrina looked down. She was wearing a stunning white gown. When they got to the front door, Rachel handed her a bouquet of white lilies and shoved her out the door.
The bridal march began to play the second Sabrina stood out on the porch. At the end of the aisle was Puck, grinning proudly. She stepped down and walked, not knowing what else to do. But, when she did, a man in dark clothing stood up from one of the chairs.
When Sabrina got to the arch and joined hands with Puck, the man ran up the aisle and towards the two.
"Hands off my fiancé," he growled.
The crowd gasped and everyone stood up and left, scoffing at Sabrina. Puck's head was held low.
"I'm not marrying you, you're insane!" Sabrina shouted. "I love Puck and nothing you do or say will change that, Br*dley." Her own words shocked her. Who was this person?
"You think I can't change it? Think again, Grimm," He mocked. Bradley pulled a dagger out and stabbed Puck in the abdomen. The boy hunched over and fell down, clutching his stomach.
"Robin!" Sabrina cried. She began to heave heavy sobs and tried to lay by her fiancé's side but was caught by Br*dley.
"Come with me," He began to drag her back to the Grimm house. Sabrina looked down at her hand, noticing that the Unwerfamié was on her finger. She used it on Br*dley and ran to the house. He recovered quickly and ran to her. Sabrina began to scream for help but there was no use.
She woke up screaming. It had been another nightmare. And she had hurt someone for a second time. If she had any nightmares during her coma, she forgot about them. But this dream sent a new wave of fear in her. She wanted out, but something in her was still afraid to go. She could smell eggs being made downstairs. Her stomach growled. Maybe food was what she needed.
The Grimm house residents--except for Puck, who was absent--gave Sabrina the cold shoulder when they saw her and they had every right to. Sabrina would give the silent treatment to herself if she could.
She ate in a separate room and once she finished, she exited the house to go up to the field and regain her bearings. When she got up to the willow tree, she was surprised to find Puck there. He was laying out on the quilt that the girls brought up the afternoon before.
"Hey," he sounded abnormally cherry.
Sabrina didn't reply. She sat down on the quilt and remained quiet.
"It's okay, Grimm. I'm fine." Puck placed his hand on Sabrina's
"No," Sabrina pulled her hand away. Puck looked hurt. "I'm sorry, it's just- I can't forgive myself for that."
"That's not the only thing that's bothering you," Puck remarked. He took one look at her and knew something was wrong. He would be able to tell even if she didn't make it blatantly obvious.
"I had a nightmare. We were getting married and there was this man. He said that I was his fiancée and he hurt you, Puck. He stabbed you. I woke up screaming"
"Oh,"
"I'm so sorry," she began to choke up. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I don't know what came over me. I could never forgive myself. I mean, look at you!"
She was right. Puck's arms were covered in scratches and bruises from the fall.
"I'm just a little sore," Puck lied.
"No, you're not. I could've killed you! If you hit the glass the right way I-,"
"I'm alive, Sabrina," He took the girl's hand a second time. "Look, I'm not saying I'm proud of what you did but I could never be mad at you...I- I really care about you,"
"I do too. Which is why I can't forgive myself for what-,"
Puck stopped her with a kiss. It made Sabrina jump a little but she kissed him back immediately. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer, holding her tight. Sabrina pulled away, making Puck frown.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Am I some sort of distraction to you? What about Rose? Last time I checked you were still upset about her."
"No- never,"
"Then why were you so mad at me earlier?" Sabrina crossed her arms.
"For getting hurt,"
"That wasn't my fault,"
"I know you, Sabrina. What really happened with Grendel?"
"I wanted to prove to Father that I could be worthy of something," Sabrina fell back on the blanket. "Sometimes I feel like he doesn't believe I can amount to anything."
"Well, with that in mind, I am more than sure that you will prove him wrong. What happened to my Sabrina that didn't care about what people thought?"
"She's still in there," Sabrina decided.
"That's my girl," Puck smirked.
They sat in a moment of silence. Sabrina couldn't tell if it was a mutual awkwardness or if it was just her, but she decided to break it.
"So, about that,"
"About what?"
"The kiss,"
"Was that okay? It didn't bother you, did it?"
"No, it was quite alright."
Puck showed off a boyish grin. "Really?"
"Really, fairy boy. But don't get your hopes up. I don't know if I will get married."
"Oh. How come?"
"I think it's foolish that marriage and becoming a mother is the only thing expected of me. Maybe I want to go to school and study."
"That's what I like most about you,"
Sabrina blushed. "That's sweet, too bad there isn't much I can say that I fancy about a fairy, but I'm sure that there are a few things."
"Watch out, Grimm, you might be surprised."
"Quite bold of you to assume that you're unpredictable, but I'll wait."
"There's something else," Puck said after a moment of comfortable silence.
Sabrina turned her head towards him. "What is it?"
"Jake and I stopped by Faerie, where I came from, and my mother told me I may have to come home soon. Moth, who I was previously betrothed to, escaped from prison. The kingdom is in a panic and there are rumors of war. There's a chance that I'll have to go and fight."
"I'll come with you,"
"Henry wouldn't allow it, and I couldn't let you get hurt,"
"I'm a big girl, Puck. I can take care of myself,"
"You don't understand. Moth murdered my father and tried to kill you. You would be like fresh bait if you go. She will come after you."
"I want to help,"
"We should go back," Puck changed the subject. He got up and Sabrina followed, taking the blanket with her. As they walked, Puck had the audacity to hold Sabrina's hand, though she did not mind it at all. She pulled her hand out of his when they returned.
It was around noon. Everyone still looked at Sabrina with disapproval. Rachel and Daniel had come over as well. Daphne and Daniel had an assignment to work on together and Rachel wanted to check on Sabrina. She smirked when she saw Puck and Sabrina walk in.
"Meet me upstairs," she mouthed. Sabrina rolled her eyes and took a seat on the couch instead.
"What were you two doing?" Henry asked.
"We went up to the field and talked things through. Everything is alright, no need to fuss." Puck said.
Sabrina gave him a look, suggesting that he tell them about Faerie. He nodded.
"Between us, that is," He began.
"What do you mean?"
"Moth escaped and it is very possible that Faerie will go to war."
"Will you need us?" Henry asked.
"I'm not sure."
A knock sounded from the door, interrupting them. Puck turned around and opened it. "Hello?" He called. No one answered. He looked down to find a piece of paper on the ground. He picked it up and brought it inside. "It's a letter,"
"From whom?"
"It doesn't say,"
Henry stood up from his place on the couch and snatched the letter from the boy. He began to read it aloud.
Grimm family,
Upon the recent recovery of your eldest, we regret to inform you that this is not it for your family. We have remained silent for many years, only to strike back. All we would like is that you come to Faerie and meet us there. If not, you will have to suffer the consequences. Your family will not be safe any longer.
Cynthia Robbins
"Who's Cynthia?' Henry asked Puck.
"I- I don't know -,"
"My mother," Rachel cut in. She was staring off into nothing, afraid. "But that's impossible. She died when I was twelve."
"Are you positive?"
"I went to her funeral,"
"Valid, enough," Puck said.
"What are we gonna do?" Sabrina asked.
"I don't know yet," Henry sat back down, rubbing his temples. "Everyone, get some rest. Rachel, you and Daniel can stay the night."
Sabrina and the others went upstairs. The news shook them up a little, so the girls decided to have a sleepover. Red, Daphne, Rachel, and Sabrina sat on the floor in a circle talking.
"So, tell me more about this fiance of yours," Sabrina mocked.
"His name is Ezra, I told you already,"
"Yes, but what else?"
"Well, he's in medical school currently. We actually met at the hospital while he was interning there."
"Oh, that's so sweet," Daphne squealed.
"So, tell me about this lover of yours," Rachel said. Sabrina knew that she was talking about Puck.
Sabrina told them everything. How they had their heart to heart, the kiss. It made the girls extremely happy.
"Are you dating then?" Red asked.
"No, we're just...fond of each other, that's all."
"You're blushing," Red teased in a sing-song tone.
"He is quite sweet and handsome,"
"Really?" The girls said sarcastically.
"Stop it, or I'll have to ask you, girls, who you like,"
Red and Daphne shut their mouths quickly, making Sabrina and Rachel laugh.
"Go on then," Rachel encouraged.
"You guys are gonna tell him," Red excused.
"You can trust us, Red."
She shut her eyes and blurted out, "Daniel,"
Rachel squealed, "We could be sisters-in-law!"
"He likes me?" Red's eyes widened.
"Not sure, but you never know. You are sixteen, wedding age is fast approaching," Rachel said.
"What about you, Daph?"
"Well, I don't exactly mind Percy,"
"I don't think he minds you either," Sabrina said, recalling their kiss from a few years ago, which the brunette seemed to have forgotten about.
The friends spent the rest of the night, talking about various things and laughing with each other. It was a good distraction from everything, but it went away as soon as they woke up.
Henry came into the room at six in the morning. He had a certain manner about him that unsettled the girls. His hair was frazzled and he was still wearing yesterday's work clothes. His blue eyes were bloodshot.
"We leave in an hour. Pack your bags,"

Chapter One:
Smiley 1 . Aug 17
Ok, I really loved this chapter, the prologue made me cry... a lot...
Was it Sabrinas parents who died, because that's what I thought.
I loved the idea of training. But I think Sabrina and Daphne can beg to differ.
Also, shouldn't Sabrina call Robin, Puck, in the Grimm Household at least.
Keep up the Great work, I love when authors preprinted stories then post it on Fanfiction. It make the process easier.
Good Job!
I'm glad you liked it! Yes, the training was so fun to write:) I decided to have the Grimms call Puck Robin and Puck interchangeably because I've seen it in several fics and I've liked the idea of it. Thanks, I hope you like the rest of the fanfiction:)
