Out on the front lines

Chapter Three

Colonel Hollis Mann headed out into the elevator remembering the last time she had seen or heard from Special Agent Gibbs. It's been eight years as she and his team had closed up the case.

She went to say goodbye to him as he was working in his basement like always on his boat another one. She walked down the stairs telling him she had brought him dinner and wine with her leaving.

"It's a good thing Hollis. I have been busy finishing up this boat. I will take your offer of dinner and the wine. When exactly are you going to be leaving?" He asked with her getting close to him and his aftershave lotion of Old Spice along with the sawdust and other smells.

"Tomorrow morning on a flight to Hawaii and my husband Jake will be meeting me at the airport." She said with a quick kiss to his cheek.

"Thank you, Hollis for helping with the case. At least we were able to stop the person from killing further and getting him off the streets." Gibbs makes mention with opening up the bag with Chinese for the both of them. He was hungry. While she opened up the bottle of wine.

"By the way Jethro. When was the last time you were on vacation?" She asked out of curiosity.

"Last month for a few days at my cabin. It was totally surreal with no around accept the deer, fish and the quietness. I was able to finally sleep without waking up from nightmares or dreams."

"I didn't know you suffered with those days of being gone for those two months in Paraguay with your field agent McGee?" She placed a gentle hand onto his cheek while eating their food and red wine.

"Yeah I still do and why I speak with my therapist Doctor Grace on occasion and even Doctor Cyril Taft." He responded with a chuckle.

"What's so funny Gibbs?" She had to asked with her closeness to him. She was looking for something from him.

"I was remembering the last time Cyril and I talked. I mean really talk even though he had opened up a number of subjects to discuss and the one we talk about was my mother and father." He said with sadness remembering the both of them with his mother Barbara dying from breast cancer even though L.J. Moore had helped her to commit suicide.

"I would of loved being there with you talking to your doctor friend." She kissed him hard as he takes her into his arms to continue on with the kiss and moving her towards his boat and what came next in spite the fact he was letting her leave in the morning to Hawaii...

Back to reality...

Mrs. Loreile Gibbs walked into her husband's room alone with Doctor Taft and his nursing staff awaiting any word on whether their patient will be waking. Even though Taft and the specialist had stated that he wasn't going to wake anytime soon.

She sat down with pulling up a chair. She first the time seen how pale her husband was looking. The doctors had said it was his blood count was rising with the additional units of blood and other fluids that he had lost during his torture.

Taking hold of his hand feeling cold to her touch. She began to speak with him as if she was having a conversation with him. "Jethro, I am here again with you in the hospital as a regular routine. You need to stop this for real my dear husband." She replied with tears falling down her face.

She down at his head with him needing another marine haircut. Even though he was still her silver hair husband sexy as always. She had wished that she had met him when he was in his teens and early twenties. She had heard that he was quite a rebel for the most part.

"Your child in my stomach is very quiet even though at home your son Shane is asleep at home with the nanny. Come on man you're a father of two and you can't even be awake for them?"

All of a sudden she felt his hand moving and twitching. Along with a move from his mouth as his eyes were fluttering opened. She had ran out to see Taft at the nurses station to tell him he was waking.

"That's not possible Loreile!" Taft said loudly to her with following her to his room and seeing the proof. "OMG!"

"Now what Cyril?" She asked with concern etch on her face.

"Talk to him and tell him the complete truth on what happened to him.. I will be waiting in my office for further word." He left her alone...

He began to opened his eyes not knowing whether he was dead or alive... He felt that someone was holding his hand feeling cold. She watched his reaction as his blue eyes opened...

"Yes, that's right Jethro it's Loreile." She said with seeing his lips trying to move. No doubt dry. She grabbed the pitcher with placing some of the cold water to his lips with just a little. "Go slow Jethro, I don't need you throwing up on me."

"Where am I Loreile?" He asked in a horse voice...

"Bethesda hospital. The doctors were able to work on you in Paraguay before flying you back to the states."

"How bad? Did I lose some body parts?" This was a hard question to answer. But she took a deep breath with answering the question.

"Almost Jethro with Hernandez slicing half off your penis along with a knife wound into your stomach when the rescue team arrived. Doctors were able to save it with surgery and the new cell regeneration."

"I remember at the time with Hernandez telling his men to wake me further in order for me to feel the knife cutting into me as with my penis. And I never felt so much pain in my life." He cried out...

"Jethro, you need to take it easy now so that your body needs to heal over all. Doctor Cyril Taft wants to see this happened as with the specialist saving your life."

"I need to talk since I don't feel anything right now." He replied...

"It's the heavy pain medication given to you. What else do you need to know besides the fact that Jose Juan Hernandez, Riccio and Maria are dead with Vance and Torres killing them both with the rifles. While Maria was killed by the soldiers with her neck snapped like a twig knowing the fact she was going to talk to the authorities."

"I am very glad he's finally has his just desserts with him dead after what he had done to me." He was squeezing her hand hard with the stress of his injuries.

"I will get Taft in here to check you over." She was stopped by hand with his hand and commanding voice.

"No don't! I want you here for now. Please tell me about Shane and the unborn child."

"Both are fine. Shane can't wait to have his father both home as with Phineas. Always asking about you." She placed his hand onto her belly as the baby was growing.

"When I get out of here Loreile. I am going to tell Vance that I will be taking all of my vacation time to take my family on a second honeymoon. How does this sound at all?"

"Sounds wonderful Jethro. Now take it easy and I will be back tomorrow." She kisses him on his cheek before heading for Taft's office.
