Taking a deep breath I place my hand on the old door handle and as always, it's unlocked. Honestly! I know it's only Bon Temps, a tiny town in the middle of the Louisiana countryside, but still... after living with Eric and how tight his security system is, it's made me see things through new eyes.
It feels so strange walking through this door, something I've done many of times over the years. This is different though. For one, I've sort of accepted the truth of the fact; I am not a Stackhouse and two - once a place I felt safe, now just feels like a house full of lies.
Closing the door quietly behind me, I listen out, and find that she's in the kitchen as always. My eyebrows raise in surprise, upon hearing the amount of cursing inside her head. Fuck knows how she managed to keep up her fake persona for so many years as an innocent Christian woman, who goes to church every Sunday, prays at every meal. Even has a group from the church called the glorious dead. Where a bunch of them remember the past, and those who have fallen.
As I walk along the wooden floor, it's then I realise my feet are bare, feeling the cold wood against the souls of my feet. Shit! How the heck did I do that? I also noticed, I find myself missing Eric already. But I tried to focus on getting the answers I feel I deserved. I still don't understand this connection between me and him. We hadn't even had real sex yet.
NO SOOKIE! Don't think along those lines, concentrate. Get joy out of making the old fake jump, and that's exactly what I did do, as I snuck into the kitchen, where she's busy washing up, and scraped the chair along the kitchen floor, so it made a loud noise in the quiet room.
She spun around in fright, her hand holding her heart, her old eyes wide, and then immediately narrowed as she saw me sitting at her kitchen table, smiling at her, as if nothing has happened. Well she sure is in for the biggest shock of her fake life.
"Hello Adele." I say in greeting, that just pisses her off.
"It's Gran, like it always has been." She hissed. I raised my eyebrows.
"But you aren't are you? So why would I call you it? I'm not a Stackhouse, I'm not your granddaughter and I'm not Jason's sister. I'm Sookie Brigant, daughter of Niall. My real mother died giving birth to me, and my father gave me to your family on good word from his son, my brother, your ex-lover. You destroyed two men's life's due to your selfishness. And you call yourself a Christian woman?"
May as well jump right in a the deep end. I listen in on her thoughts and her mind is blank with shock. Clearly not expecting me to know so much.
"Yes, you see. I've been filled in on a lot of things, you also know of my disability so do not bullshit because I will know if you do. I think I deserve the truth at least."
"You don't deserve shit girl. My son took you in, after Fintan placed you in my care. I didn't want any more children after my two. I felt pressured by him to take you in." Ouch!
"So if my brother told you to jump off a cliff, would you have felt pressured to jump off a cliff and take your own life because Fintan told you too? My father placed me in your families care because of Fintan's recommendation and praise of you. God knows why!" I say to her.
She stared at me in silence, through narrowed eyes for what felt longer than a few minuets; as time continued to tick on by.
"You didn't have to take me in." I told her after time.
"Fintan begged me, then disappeared." She said bitterly.
"Because he died." I told her.
"He still left. You where his responsibility, you just lived under my roof when my son was killed."
"I thought I was given to them?" I asked, feeling rather confused. I'm so lost!
"No. HE took you in, because they could handle a newborn better than me. I was older, they where younger and full of energy. Plus they already had Jason and couldn't have more children. So it was a win, win situation for him at least. Plus you where kind of related in a crazy fucked up way so I guess he felt that connection to you, unfortunately."
"Why are you so nasty all of a sudden?" I ask her.
"How am I being nasty?" She said, folding her arms, and leaning against the sink. I hope the taps turn on and spray the old bat with it, and much to both of our surprises it did! She screeched as the taps went crazy and sprayed all over her back, drenching her. The fuck? How did I do that? How did I even get here? Making us both jump a new voice joined in. Adele spun back around after trying to stop the water, as we both stared at my father in shock, upon his sudden appearance, and he's with two men, I'd never seen before this time.
"Never piss off a fairy coming into her magic." Is how he greeted us.
"Fuck off Niall. This is all your fault!" She hissed.
"WoW! And you call yourself a good, god serving christain woman? You really are full of surprises aren't ya?" I say to her. How did I miss this?
"Probably because you weren't looking for it." A new voice answered my unspoken question. I turned to glare at the person.
"Stay outta my fuckin' head, it's rude."
"Charming, sister."
Say what?
Just wanted to say THANK YOU so, so much - ALL OF YOU :) Even those who just read, thank you. This chapter has been driving me nuts! I'd re-written it three times.
I've been so torn on what to do with Adele, and Sookie's confrontation. But I think I've finally got this, and happy with it :) Hope you all enjoy!
