The early morning rays of sun light had found two very happy souls resting together. Kenshin on his back, while his new wife rested peacefully in his arms. Her head on his chest sleeping quietly as a smile was on her face. Even though he had been married before this time felt totally different, now it was like a different kind of joining. 'Could it be that Tomoe and I were truly not met to be? No it was, but it was in that time I had to lose what was most important to me in order to become who I am now. I fear I may never had become who am now, if not for her death, that I would not have.' Kaoru sighed and his thoughts turned to her. 'At least now I have a relationship based on love and trust, not that I didn't before. This joining just seems to be the right one now, and I'm more wiser too, that I am.' It was true that he made mistakes before, some could've been prevented others not so much. Had he not been such a hot head growing up maybe he would never have been branded with his old Battosai name or the cross on his left cheek. For now though he would live on and try hard not make the same mistakes again.

"Mmmmh, morning Kenshin." Kaoru said, as she setup and yawning. "I don't think I've slept like that in ages. I hope I didn't snore and keep you awake dear husband?" Kenshin simply smiled and shook his head no. She returned his smile while reaching up to his cheek and lightly rubbing her thumb over his scared left cheek. A moment of sadness came to her as she remembered his story of the past love. 'I can't imagine how it must feel to know you killed the one you loved. And now here he is again married to a woman he loves so much and could lose her to death by an old enemy or even his own hand if old ways returned.' Her eyes closed and in a second of weakness, tears formed in her eyes.

"Miss. Kaoru, oro? Kenshin then chuckled at himself for calling his wife by the old name he always called her. With a nervous smile he apalogized. "Please forgive me dearest wife, an old habit, that it was. Still I see no need for tears my lovely Kaoru, unless I have done something to upset you?" She nodded, no and then he truly started to feel he had done something wrong for her to not tell him. "Then these are tears of joy?" Still he knew these were not happy tears, these were tears of worry and sadness. "My dear Kaoru, are you sad about my past life? If so there is no need to feel so. That is my past which I have left behind me, now I have a new future one I want to be full of happiness, that I do."

She smiled at him lovingly and kissed his lips before running her hands through his reddish hair. "Oh Kenshin, I am very happy and you have done nothing wrong dear husband. Sometimes I just think back at how your life went, and I makes me sad thinking about all the sadness and heartache you suffered thought." Looking down Kaoru took his hand and intertwined her fingers with his. "I know you're not a man slayer anymore, you've proven that for 11 years now. 10 years before you met me and now a whole year with me, so I don't fear that side of you ever returning. It's the enemies from your past I worry about. What if they come after you again and something terrible happens again. I hate thinking you might have to go through that again. And now you're married to me, I would hate to see you lose me like your first wife."

Kenshin could only smile before kissing her lips. Once again her love for others before herself had him loving her even more. Of course life was full of what if's and heartache, this was the way the world was. And for one to simply give up in these hard times showed how weak they really were. After parting from the kiss, Kenshin assured her that things would be just fine. "Kaoru, you shouldn't put everything on your shoulders as I once did, that you shouldn't. This is all part of life, we can't live in fear of dying or we'll never truly be happy. What happens today and the days that follow we will face together now, and if my life would end before yours then we can not change that, that we can not." A tear started to fall as she listened to his words and gently he kissed it away. "In these time my dear you know war can come in a second as well as sickness, let's not look for these things to come and think positive."

Kaoru sniffed a few times and then started to laugh. "We okay then, how's this for being positive, Kenshin? I'm sure after last night in nine months you'll have a son." His look of pure confusion had her rolling with laughter, so much so he feared she'd die laughing at this point.

"Oro? Um, may I ask why this is funny?" He asked, now greatly worried that his wife was going mad from too much sex last night. Still he knew that wasn't possible, even though Kaoru was overly enjoying this little moment of cuddles they were share. "Though you know I'd be happy to have a daughter if not a boy. As long as she's as courageous and caring as her mother." They both blushed at the thought of children, but knew it was bound to happen after a few times together in bed. Especially if those times were like last night. "Rest here my sweet, I'll make breakfast for my new wife, that I surely will." Without disagreeing Kaoru left her husband go make the food while she laid on their bed mats and dreamed of the future they would be sharing together.
