A/N: It feels like forever since I updated this story. This isn't a very long chapter, but at least ideas have returned to me for this. Please enjoy!
As Kaoru ate her husband's wonderful cooking, she started thinking. 'This isn't how it should be, I'm his wife. I'm the one who should be cooking for him.' She lowered her head in sadness. 'But I could never cook like he does.' Kaoru sighed, she wanted to be the wife Kenshin deserved. Not have him serving, and cooking meals for her.
When Kenshin walked in with more rice, he noticed his wife's depressed look. "Is something bothering you, Kaoru?" He asked, as he took a seat beside her.
Looking up Kaoru smiled and shook her head no. "It's nothing to worry about Kenshin, I just feel this is all wrong."
"Oro?" Was Kenshin's confused response. "How do you mean, wrong? Would you have preferred something else this morning?"
Once again she smiled at her beloved man and husband. "No, everything you have prepared is perfect." Looking down at her down now folded hands Kaoru continued. "It's just….it's me that should be cooking for you Kenshin. And yet my cooking is nothing like yours."
Kenshin smiled at Kaoru, while placing a hand on hers. "No, you're wrong. It's not a matter of who does what the best. I know you try and do your best, that's all anyone really does. And I'm okay with cooking. After all it was something I did many times after I started staying here."
Slowly Kaoru lifted her head and looked into Kenshin's eyes. "I'm glad you decided to stop being a wonder that day. You added some much happiness to this old dojo."
"Well at least I was able to finally add joy after so much sadness, that I am." They both gave each other a joyful smile and continued to finish their breakfast. Afterwards Kaoru made sure she cleaned up from breakfast.
The morning progressed as normal. Cleaning the dojo and of course Yahiko had his training. Kenshin was doing some laundry when Sanosuke arrived. A fish bone was in his mouth and his hands stuffed in his pockets. "I see the missy has you hard at work. Some things will never change around here."
Kenshin simply smiled as he answered his friend's words. "And why should things be different, Sanosuke? Just because me and Kaoru are married doesn't mean we should change things." Pulling out a white shirt from the wash tub, Kenshin squeezed out the water and tossed it into another basket. "Besides I find it relaxing out here while doing the laundry. That I surely do."
"Well if you say so, though I doubt you'll be happy to hear what's going around Tokyo. Seems there's a group of repeals gathering in this area. It seems they have a large group in Kyoto as well. It could be more, but I've only heard of these two areas."
"I see, well I'm sure the local police will handle this. After all this is not my fight, and I hope it stays that way, that I most surely do." Still there was that one part in the back of Kenshin's mind. That made him feel this would eventually turn into his fight as well. 'This dojo is my home and if I am needed, then I will protect my home and all who reside here.'
"Have it your way, but I'm not going to completely trust the police on this one. I'll keep my eyes on the lookout, just in case." Kenshin simply nodded he agreed and would do the same. Then went on with his daily chores.
Kaoru was washing up in the practice hall, while Yahiko washed outside. After all the cleaning was done they decided to do a little training. "You're doing good Yahiko, but watch yourself. You're a little off on your defense. That's it like that, keep it up just like that." Kaoru was very proud of Yahiko, he had improved so much since they first began training. He even seemed to picking up on some of Kenshin's techniques.
Even though it was only from watching him from time to time during small fights. Which usually never ended with Kenshin drawing his sword. No Kenshin was skilled enough to dodge most attacks or he was able to end the argument with the sword still sheathed.
After training was completed it was definitely time to eat. It was Kenshin who made the offer to buy the beef-pot meal for everyone. Of course no one objected to the meal idea. "Kaoru, would you mind helping me finish the laundry before we go?" Kenshin humbly asked his new wife.
With a smile Kaoru bowed and went help her husband.
As they worked both were quiet, mostly doing their work at hand. It was Kenshin that started the conversation. "Sanosuke says there is a new group of rebels causing trouble lately. It sounds like he's planning on taking on the fight on his own. Though it doesn't surprise me really. We both know he's happier when his fists are moving."
Kaoru looked at Kenshin with a worried look. "He worries me when he does these things." Kenshin nodded, he agreed. "You don't plan on going with him do you?"
"No." Kenshin said, as he finished washing the last rag. "I have no desire to fight, Sanosuke knows this. I will however protect those that are important to me here. That is my only plan against these rebels."
Kaoru smiled as she thought. She knew her husband all too well. 'In the end he will be involved, not that he wants to though. Knowing the times they will find him just like before.'
