Chapter 6: Fateful Encounters
LOCATION: SINNOH; JUNE 18TH, 2006
It was a bright sunny day in the land of Sinnoh. Just as you would expect. Nothing but peaceful chirps from Starly and the noises of Kricketot… And a Buneary running and screaming for her life.
She was running from a Mothim, all because she touched his honey. She did not know that the honey was for the Mothim. It was just out in the open! As she was hopping away, she tried to take a hard right to lose the Mothim but she smacked straight into a tree. She was now slightly bruised as the Mothim hovered above her.
I'm going to enjoy this. Maybe a little too much." He said with malice in his voice.
Buneary was too scared to do anything. All she could do was watch the Mothim charge a attack.
"Silver wind! Prepare for-"
A portal opened above the Mothim and he was quite confused. It had the usual blue color with a swirly affect happening in it. Everything was silent for a minute until a Oshawott fell from it and unhooked his scalchop. His favorite item began charging in a blue energy. "You aren't ready for this. Razor shell" He began attacking the Mothim with all his might.
A Snivy soon followed afterwards and continued the attack. "Osh! Tag-team!" They slapped hands as Snivy prepared a leaf tornado. It wasn't too powerful but the wind of it pushed Mothim back a bit.
While Oshawott and Snivy were dealing with that, Tepig and Celebi appeared from the portal with it closing off behind them. Celebi eyed the Buneary with concern. "Hopefully, this will help. Wish!" She casted a wish on the weak Buneary and it healed her scars up. The Buneary was now at full strength!
"Whoa!" She began hopping up and down a lot. "I've never felt better!" She then looked at the Celebi. "Holy Arceus! You're a Celebi"
She smirked at the Rabbit. "The one and only. You were lucky we warped here at this spot. Other wards you might have been comatose."
Buneary nodded. "Right. By the way, who are those mons behind you?" She pointed at Tepig and as well as Oshawott and Snivy who were finishing up business with the wild Mothim.
Celebi giggled a bit while pointing. "That's Tepig, and that otter over there is Oshawott and his 'girlfriend' is Snivy.
Tepig simply snickered at that comment, mainly because Celebi held air quotes around when she said 'girlfriend.' "They aren't really dating." Tepig said butting in. "But who knows. Anything could happen."
Celebi turned to the fire pig. "If Oshawott is willing to help me save the world, then I might as well help him with his problem.
Buneary was now very curious. "Saving the world? What do you mean?"
Celebi sighed lightly. "The legendary Dialga has been poke-napped by a evil group of people. We came from the future to track them down.
Tepig nodded while looking up in the sky. "And now we are trying do destroy this pokeball." He showed the Buneary the red and black pokeball. "We can't release Dialga. So we plan on destroying this."
Buneary looked sad hearing this news. "Well I would help but i'm not a very strong Pokemon..." She lowered her head in sadness. "I have been trying to improve my skills yet nothing has been working."
Oshawott and Snivy got done with destroying the Mothim. With a couple of razor shells and leaf tornados, he had to retreat. The otter and snake were now tuning in on this conversation. Oshawott can definitely feel sympathy for Buneary. He always felt weak and he didn't have much to prove. But recently, he's been honing his skills. It was mainly to impress Snivy, but it doesn't hurt to prepare for situations.
"I've been trying to stop chickening out of fights, but there are so many Pokemon in this forest..." Buneary said with a hint of fear.
Oshawott put his scalchop back on his stomach, then he turned to the rabbit. "Every Pokemon can be strong. You just need to fight your fears."
Buneary crossed her arms and looked away. "Easy for you to say. My only attacks are dizzy punch and bounce. The latter of which requires skill and accuracy to land." She slid her back down a tree nearby in defeat. "Once again I had to be saved..."
Snivy patted her on the shoulder. "Like Oshawott said, if you train hard enough, you will be a strong Pokemon. That's how me and my friends got to where we are. Before we started helping Celebi, we would train in a forest."
Celebi nodded. "Yep. You just need to train hard. What would motivate you?"
Buneary thought for a moment. "Well... Earlier I saw this group of trainers, one of which tried to capture me." She said in thought. "And there was a boy with a Pikachu on his shoulder that I would love to impress. He's just so... so... handsome!" Buneary said with a sparkle in her eye.
"Then why didn't you let her capture you?" Tepig asked confused.
"Because i'm weak! I couldn't even handle a Mothim! I don't want to be on a trainers team if i'm weak."
Snivy face-palmed slightly. "You get caught for the trainer to train you. Not trainer is a jerk you know."
"Yeah but-"
The rabbit was cut-off when a blue swirly portal opened besides the group. After a few seconds, Silas appeared from it, with his usual black hoodie.
"Well then... It appears I came across the 'heroes' of this world... How sad. Why not just give up and go to your own time period. Not that it matters..."
Celebi started charging a magical leaf. "Ok. Listen up! You better have answers! How can you understand us!? And how did you figure out our location?!"
Silas grew a smirk on his face. "Let me give a proper introduction. My name is Silas, and I work for Team Vanish. I took a class understanding the Pokemon language. It took a year, but it was worth it. The world has always shoved me away, whenever I had a good idea. So I joined Zek and his team of scientists. We wanted to restart the time line, back to the very beginning."
Oshawott had a look of worry on his face. "Why would you do something so terrible?"
"Because no one has ever accepted me before. So I figured I should cast revenge on the humans and Pokemon."
Celebi still looked very angry at Silas as her magical leaf kept forming. "But how did you know we were here!?"
He held up his wrist. "With this device. When I found out Zek had one, I needed to get one myself. This watch lets you time travel, but it has another use. It can track down Dialga and Palkia. One of which is in this time period." The group eyed the discolored pokeball. "I'll be taking that back now."
Celebi let loose the magical leaf she was charging. "Not on my watch!" The rainbow leaves flew at Silas.
"I won't go down again!" Silas said angry. "Jolteon! Emolga! Fight this battle. And make sure you take them out!
A jolteon and Emolga materialized in front of Silas. Jolteon ran over to Celebi and Tepig. Emolga flew over to Oshawott and Snivy. The grass snake turned to Buneary. "Take cover! We got this!" With a quick nod, she hopped behind a group of trees.
Jolteon had some sparks fly out of him. "Can't wait to settle this score. Thunderbolt!" Celebi flew upwards while Tepig ran a good distance away.
"You will regret doing that. flame charge!" He rammed his firey body into the electrical dog, pushing him back.
"Quick attack!" He jumped off of the various trees at a immense speed. Tepig's eyes couldn't even keep up.
"Teleport!" Celebi warped Tepig away from the attack.
"Whoa! Thanks Celebi." He said slightly out of breath from the random teleport.
"Do you notice how Silas isn't even giving them any commands. They're just attacking! There's more to his character we don't know yet..." Celebi said with concern.
"Yeah but... Whoa!" Tepig jumped back dodging a thunderbolt, which brunt the grass around the two Pokemon. The grass quickly turned a deep black. "And how are they this powerful!"
"I don't know but I have an idea. You move when I tell you to." Tepig didn't know what her plan is, but for now, he decided to listen."
Jolteon eyed the floating Celebi. "We meet again. Just stay still, it will spare us both the trouble. Thunderbolt!" She nimbly dodged it. The thunderbolt burnt some of the leaves off of the trees.
"I hope this works. Grass whistle!" She started whistling a tune that was putting Jolteon in a trance.
"Hey! What are you... doing?" He gave a big yawn and he fell over asleep.
"Alright Tepig! Ram into that tree!"
"Alright then..." He charged up a headbutt and knocked head first into the tree. The tree tipped over and crushed the Jolteon's body. "That looked painful... but if it got the job done, who cares?!" Tepig said exitedly.
Snivy and Oshawott were in a stare-down with their opponent; Emolga. Eventually Emolga broke the silence. "This fight is a joke. You two are both at a type-advantage. You could just give up, you know?"
Oshawott readied his scalchop. "As if! Type-advantage or not, we can still take you down."
"I don't even need a attack." She then winked at the otter, which he was confused about. Then, a wave of hearts flew at Oshawott and circled around him.
Snivy caught on to what she was doing. "Oshawott! Snap out of it!"
"What's happening?" He watched the hearts swarm him until they colided with his body, causing him to enter 'love' mode. "Holy justified swords. You're really pretty..."
She started fluttering her eyes as she posed. "I want you to stay still, while I zap you."
He quickly nodded while Snivy grabbed him with her vines and pulled him out of the way. The discharge seared the ground around them.
Snivy lightly slapped him with her vines. "Hey Oshy. Wake up."
He snapped out of his trance as he looked around. "What happened?"
"That Emolga tried using attract on you." The otter shivered at that statement. He always hated attract recently because his heart has been set on Snivy. He didn't want to develop any crushes on other Pokemon.
Emolga gave a slow clap to the grass snake. "Oh boy. Good job to you. You saved the day." She said sarcastically. "I expected less from a smugleaf like yourself."
Little fires started flaring out of Snivy's eyes. "Take that back, you pika-clone."
"All your breed is known for is stacking leaf storm with contrary, and you species is more defensive than offensive."
"And your breed can't even evolve. Even Pachirisu are better than you."
Sparks started to fly out of Emolga. "And you're worse than any Chikorita."
Snivy started to unleash her vines from her back. "Silas clearly isn't a smart trainer. Cause no one would pick you."
"And no one would pick you. Tepig's are way cooler!"
Oshawott was staring in awe at the argument. "Wow. Two attractive Pokemon getting into a fight..."
"What?" Both Snivy and Emolga turned into the otters direction. Oshawott looked away with a blush forming on his face.
"Uh. Nothing?" He said rather nervously.
Snivy redirected the attention back on Emolga. "Anyways. This she-devil is going down!" She lunged at Emolga, causing a small wrestle match. They didn't even use moves through most of it, it was just them wrestling on the dirt. "Heads up Oshy!" She lashed a vine whip at the, now bruised, Emolga. Causing her to leap in the air.
Oshawott readied his scalchop as Emolga was approaching him. "Razor shell!" He smacked the electric squirrel into a tree, causing a imprint to appear on the bark. With Emolga now damaged significantly. The otter went to congratulate his friend. "That was awesome Snivy! You got some real insults."
Snivy smirked a bit at the compliment. "No one calls me smugleaf. I don't even look smug."
Oshawott turned away with a small smile. "Well.. I mean, you do kinda-" Emolga started to get up from her beaten state. Her cheeks were crackling with way more electricity.
"I've had it. Prepare for a electrocution."
Buneary was hiding behind a tree as she heard various explosions happened in the nearby battle field. Life has never been this interesting for the Buneary. It was just her living with her parents until she tried to move out to train herself and to prove her worth. However, she has always been scared. Fighting her fears is proving to be a very tricky task.
She remembered a week ago when she encountered this girl with a Piplup. She did always want a trainer to give her the confidence she needed. But, was she going to provide support to the team. Buneary are not meant to be powerhouses. Yet maybe there's a way. A way to train herself. Something she needed. Like a new type, or ability. Or...
She looked around the forest until she saw Silas eyeing the battle. There was a bag he brought with that was set down next to a oran berry bush. As much as she liked oran berries, That bag had something of interest. A light-blue disc shaped object. It couldn't be, could it?
Ah, it appeared to be the case. A TM! These technical machines were known for teaching Pokemon moves that they can't learn through training normally. Maybe she could steal one to use for herself. She hopped near the bag and took cover in the bush. She spent a few seconds digging in the bag and she revealed the TM. It had a label on it that defined the move as 'ice beam.' Now this is a move she could use! High power, chance to freeze, and no one would expect it.
She applied the disc to her skin, as she felt the power consume within her. I sure hope this worked. Time to try it.
Emolga was prepping a discharge to unleash at Oshawott and Snivy. It was clear that Emolga was not holding back. "So long, Greenie!"
"Ice beam!" A rouge beam of ice hit Emolga dead on. It froze her in a small block of ice which was frozen to the ground. "How's that for some power?" Buneary asked with a grin.
Snivy retraced her vines. "Wow. Amazing. How did you do that. And how did you learn that?"
She giggled as she held up the TM. "I found a TM for ice beam is that dude's bag. I taught myself ice beam!"
Oshawott adjusted his scalchop while staring at the rabbit. "Any trainer would be lucky to catch you. That was incredible really."
Buneary's ears lifted up as she heard noise off in the distance. "I hear the others. We should go check on them." Snivy and Oshawott nodded in agreeance as they ran over to their friends.
As Tepig was celebrating, Silas lifted the fallen tree slightly, revealing the unconscious Jolteon. He returned Jolteon back into it's pokeball
"Ugh. Looks like my power devices aren't ready yet. They need to be stronger." He muttered under his breath. "This isn't over." He said pointing to Celebi. "When the time comes, Team Vanish will take over the universe. And no time traveling deity is going to get in the way. This is your final warning." He opened a portal and he left leaving a angry Celebi and a confused Tepig.
Celebi began pacing back and forth. "This isn't good! We need to save Dialga! He'll know what to do."
Tepig looked in the direction that Silas left. "I sure hope he doesn't win. Being erased from existence sounds painful."
The two heard running noises and saw Oshawott, Buneary and Snivy who was carrying a block of ice with Emolga inside of it. Oshawott brushed his scalchop a bit. "We took care of Emolga. How did the Jolteon go?"
Celebi shook her head. "We knocked him down, but what Silas said... I heard him mutter about the power levels of Pokemon. Sounds like he's controlling his Pokemon with some type of power device.
The ice Emolga was in started cracking, until it fully broke down with a nothing but a shivering Emolga in it's place. "Where-ere is Sil-silas?" She said with a low body temperature.
Celebi smirked in amusement. It would appear he didn't remember to go find you, cause he took Jolteon and he left.
"What!? I can't believe it. After everything I did for master..." She collapsed on the ground in defeat.
Snivy, however, saw this as a opportunity. She tackled Emolga to the ground, pinning her down. "Cleary you must know some information. What type of devices are hooked up to? I am not afraid to use violence either to get you to talk." She started revealing her vines, which got Emolga to squel a bit.
"Ok! Fine, i'll tell you what i know." She put her hands around her collar and took off a metal collar. "This device feeds us energy. We can have much more powerful attacks with these." Celebi picked up the collar to inspect it, while Snivy narrowed her eyes at her.
"Where is this Team Vanish base?"
"That I don't know. They've got many base setups, they could be at any one of them. Now can you please get off me?"
Snivy lifted herself from the electric squirrel as Celebi was drawing conclusions. "This is some interesting technology, but still... We need to destroy this pokeball. The whole reason why we are in sinnoh in the first place. My friend Mesprit is strong. She'll know what to do. And Tepig..." She threw the collar towards him. "Store this someplace safe. Got it?"
The fire pig nodded as the group started to walk towards the lake, following Celebi. Well, everyone but two Pokemon. Buneary's ears unrolled as she heard some noises nearby. Noises that sounded like trainers talking. Noises that sounded exactly like the girl that had that Piplup. She traveled with that handsome Pikachu too. And now that she knows ice beam, she will have a much better chance at impressing him and becoming a valued asset of their team.
"Hey guys." Buneary said towards the others. "I'm going to leave saving the world in your hands. After all, I got a trainer to see. Hopefully she would want to add me."
Snivy nodded. "Alright then. Make sure to get stronger."
Oshawott waved. "Have fun out there in the world." The others started to wave as well. For everyone except for Emolga.
"I don't even know what to do... My trainer left me in who knows what time period. I'm hungry, there's no apples, and that Snivy still looks angry at me!"
Tepig thought for a moment. "Well. You could join us..."
Everyone looked at Tepig with mixed expressions. Celebi and Oshawott gave him a confused look. But Snivy looked angry at that suggestion. "Hey, I would not advise that. Let's not forget she is on the enemy's team.
"True, but she doesn't know where to go. I think we should help her out."
Celebi stepped in the conversation. "Are you sure Tepig. I'm siding with Snivy on this one. She might try to attack us and we'll be screwed.
"Well, let's let her decide. Those who want help seek it out after all. What do you say Emolga?"
Emolga was pondering which option to pick. On the one hand, she didn't want to side with Snivy. But on the other, unless Silas goes back to this time period, there's no way he would ever retrieve her. But what choice did she have really?
"Alright fine. I will try to get along with her." She points at Snivy, and the snake's response is to stick her nose in the air. "And I will not do anything sneaky." She held out her arm for a friendly shake. "Truce?"
Celebi still was a bit skeptical but decided to roll with it for now. "Truce." After a few minutes Celebi eyed the lake nearby. "Lake verity. Home of Mesprit; being of emotion. She should have the power necessary for breaking this cursed pokeball open. Come on guys, we don't have much time."
Snivy, Emolga and Tepig ran after her. Oshawott, however, was out of breath. "For being a time lord, you love to rush people..."
The group came across an entrance to a cavern. Inside the cavern lied a giant puddle, in a abnormal shape. The Pokemon Mesprit was in the middle of it meditating. Or sleeping. Celebi flew over to Mesprit with open arms. "Hey Mesprit." No response. "Mesprit?" Still nothing. "She must be under severe meditation. She'll come too any minute."
While Celebi tried waking up Mesprit, Snivy decided to strike up a chat with Emolga. "So, if I were to work with you, I would like to get to know you better. You know, about your past and stuff."
Emolga sat down next to one of the caverns walls. "I remember encountering Silas. I found out he could communicate with Pokemon easily, and he promised me that he would make me a stronger foe. I had to go with him. I wasn't a very good battler, and all I knew was acrobatics! Sure, it was sort of strong when my hands were free, but still. Now I work along side him to achieve his goal. He helped me, so I want to help him."
Tepig put his hand on her shoulder. "You know. You don't have to be a villain to prove you're strong. All you have to so is practice your moves. That's what me, Oshawott and Snivy did."
Oshawott nodded in agreeance. "Yep. I perfected a lot of my attacks. Before, I was really clumsy and I made a ton of mistakes."
"And while they were all pretty amusing." Snivy said smirking. With the otter smirking back. "We gave him the support he needed. We were friends since we were really young, so we formed a little 'team' to give each other support during battle."
Tepig shook his head in amusement. "They were great sparring partners."
Emolga was silent while listening to them. Living in the wild and getting stronger... That's something she wanted to do but failed. She wanted independence but failed. And seeing a otter, a pig, and a snake she mildly disliked, made her feel like she made a wrong mistake there. She wishes she could go back and restart. If she was wild again, she would give training a shot. Who knows? The electric squirrel probably would of liked it.
Celebi tried shaking Mesprit again and the lake guardian finally rose from her 'slumber.' She gave a big yawn as she rubber her eyes of tiredness. "Ah... Good morning world!" She twirled around and little particles flew around her. Suddenly, the mood in the cave shifted to happiness. "Oh! Hello Celebi! What brings you to my cave of solitude?"
"Hi Mesprit." Celebi showed her the resistance ball. "Long story short, Dialga and Palkia got poke-napped by this evil team. So they have this weird looking pokeball that we can't open normally. And none of my attacks nor any of my friends are working for cracking this thing. Think you can bust this open?
Mesprit smirked as she took the ball. "Shouldn't be too hard, I am rather good on the offensive."
Celebi tiled her head a bit. "You mean Azelf is the offensive one? I would of asked him... but I barely know him at all."
Mesprit blew a raspberry at the grass mythical. "I can easily break this thing open. Watch. Celebi open a portal that leads to this cave five seconds into the future."
Celebi was quite confused by this. "Uh... Ok?" She complied with the odd request and opened a portal. She threw the pokeball into the air.
"Psychic!" The ball was thrown with a great powerful force into the blue swirly portal. Five seconds later, the ball appeared and was traveling at such a speed that it was almost unseeable to the naked eye. The pokeball hit the wall of the cave and made a very powerful shockwave. The ball smacked the ground making a very loud crack sound. Then, a beam of light came from the pokeball, taking the shape of Dialga.
After a few deep breaths, he took a look at his surroundings. "What am I doing in the lake verity cave?" He said in a very deep voice.
"DIALGA!" Celebi hugged his leg and then looked up at the older time lord. "I thought I lost you."
"Lost me? What happened? You better not have created a time paradox again. The Unova started lifted a eyebrow at that, with Emolga snickering.
"Well you see, these two people named Zek and Silas tried to capture you and Palkia, they then drained your energy so they can create a time machine and to wipe existence to it's beginning."
"So that's why I feel so weak." Dialga said still out of breath. "I don't even remember fighting them. And to think I would get beaten by Pokemon that were obviously weaker.
Emolga smirked. "Oh. Well clearly you don't know what tech they have." She muttered under her breath.
"I heard that!" Dialga said. "And who are these four?"
Celebi pointed to each one as she said their names. "That's Oshawott, Tepig and Snivy. They are helping me with saving the world from those madmen. And that's Emolga, we have a temporary truce as we get her back to her own time."
Dialga closed his eyes in thought. "I see..." He tried to open a portal of his own yet failed. "It seems I don't have the energy to help you guys. As embarrassing as that is. They zapped too much of my energy away." He opened his eyes again with a frown growing on his face. "Celebi..." The pixie turned to Dialga. "You guys are the last hope this world has. To utilize time travel, you need both me and Palkia. I do know where my brother is as I can sense his presence. You guys have to go!"
What is with these time travelers and rushing people. Oshawott thought. He lifted his scalchop in preparation. "Alright. Dialga. We will help! Won't we guys?"
Snivy smirked. "You bet!"
Tepig was getting antsy. "I wanna destroy Zek and his team."
Emolga was busy looking at her nails while the others eyed her. Dialga was giving her the death glare.
Oshawott adjusted his scalchop as she walked over to the squirrel. "Hey. Why don't you want to help?"
"A truce is enough. Isn't it."
Snivy walked over and stood next to the otter. "You never know. Being good might boost your karma. And it might help you be a better battler.
Emolga huffed and turned the other way. "Yeah right. I know the decisions i'm making.
Tepig smirked as a thought popped up in his head. "Or... You could just comply and not get faced with a roar of time.
He eyed Dialga, causing him to smirk. These guys certainly are aware of my power. "Thanks Tepig. He said. "I'm surprised you little Pokemon aren't afraid of me."
Snivy waved him off. "Please. We know that you wouldn't hurt us, because we are being GOOD." She emphasized the last part as she looked at Emolga.
"Fine! I'll help." She said frustrated.
Dialga nodded. "Ok good. Celebi's powers are currently weak because I am also feeling weak. But due to me being stronger, no offense!" He added quickly. "I will send you guys to your next location."
"Alright!" Celebi did some flips in the air. "Where we going?"
He opened a blue swirly portal, but this one being quite larger. "To kanto... In the past. Palkia is there currently, and that's where you will see you villains. Hopefully my full strength comes back so I can assist you guys."
"Celebi lifted her self up to the near entrance. "Alright! Come on guys!" We got a universe to save. Tepig and Oshawott lifted their fists in the air in determination. Snivy just smirked at their amusement.
Emolga, however, eyed the grass snake. "Again, sorry for being a jerk to you." The squirrel said.
Snivy shrugged. "Eh, no biggie I guess."
"We good?"
Snivy lifted one of her vines around Emolga and chucked her into the portal. "Now we are good." She said smiling at Emolga's screams.
Dialga let out a soft chuckle. "Those two sound like they are going to be friends."
Mesprit laughed as well. "You should know. You are a time lord after all."
