Evie's POV
Fear. That was what I felt when I saw Jay fall back, unconscious. Then anger. I tried to run to him, but Maleficent roared at us and Mal screamed, "Don't!"
I turned to see her ducking from Maleficent, and realized that if I didn't help she could end up like Jay. I ran up and shouted, "Magic Mirror, show your bright light!"
The light went straight into Maleficent's eye, and she shrieked, collapsing.
"E, behind me!" Mal said, calmly and cooly. "Leave my friends alone. This is between you and me, Mother."
I held one of her hands, while Carlos held the other, and Mal chanted.
"The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before four hearts as one. The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before four hearts as one."
I noticed how she still included Jay, and smiled at that. But then I turned back to what was happening.
Maleficent's eyes glowed green, but so did Mal's. Well, brighter green. And it was brighter than ever before. They were filled with pain and hope and anger and love and joy all at once, while Maleficent's were just orbs of hate.
"The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before four hearts as one!"
Suddenly, green smoke covered Maleficent again, but this time when it cleared she was gone.
However, none of us cared, and we all ran to Jay. The spell on the others broke, and they ran forward, having seen the whole thing while they were frozen.
"Jay!" Mal shouted, and I felt for his pulse, gasping in relief when I felt his heartbeat.
"He's alive," I whispered, but all of us were crying.
"What did she do to him?" Carlos sniffed.
"Sleeping spell," Mal muttered, recognizing it. Maleficent had forced her to know what one looked like. "And Jay has no girlfriend or boyfriend, she knows no one can wake him."
We only cried harder at that. Jay was gone to a fate worse than death.
Ben put a hand on Mal's shoulder, but it did nothing to comfort her. She clung to him and Carlos hugged me tightly, both of us sobbing. Jay had been with us for years, and now we had lost him. To Maleficent.
Cold fury swirled in me at the thought of her.
"What happened to her?" I snarled, venom dripping from my voice. Mal's eyes, which had abandoned their green glow, turned cold with fury and Carlos looked ready to kill.
"She became a lizard," Fairy Godmother whispered. "The size of the love in her heart."
That only made Mal cry harder, knowing how little love her mother had for her. So little she would put our brother under a sleeping spell, knowing it meant we lost him.
It was hopeless.
Mal's POV
As we sat there and cried, our sobs turned into silent crying. Painful crying.
I didn't know what made me do it, but I leaned forward and placed a kiss on Jay's forehead. Unknown to me, the other's all felt something run through them when I did that. A feeling of peace and happiness and...love.
As I moved away, Jay's eyes shot open, making us all gasp.
"What happened?" he mumbled, clearly dazed.
I sobbed with joy and hugged him tightly, while Carlos and Evie did the same.
"Maleficent put you under a sleeping spell," Carlos explained. "Mal woke you up with True Love's Kiss."
All of us understood exactly how that had worked, and so did Ben, Lonnie, Jane, and Doug, but the rest of Auradon seemingly hadn't.
"Uh, excuse me?" Audrey said haughtily. "Aren't we going to talk about how she was here talking about how she loved Ben a minute ago and now she's another guy's True Love?"
I scowled.
"Audrey, True Love doesn't mean it has to be someone you love in a romantic way," I said. "I forgot this because I was so upset, but True Love can be the love of a parent, friend, or..."
"Sister," Jay finished, smiling. "Mali's like my sister, and always has been."
We all smiled, and I hugged Jay again.
After a moment, we stood up.
"What are we waiting for?" my brother asked. "Let's get this party started!"
Mal's POV
Ten Years Later
I stood in the kitchen, helping Anabel make the stuffing.
"They'll be here soon," I smiled, looking at the clock before turning back to our cook. Anabel was amazing at her job, and always liked when I helped out in the kitchen. I liked her, and we both found cooking relaxing.
Like it was their cue, the doorbell rang at that moment. I perked up and quickly washed my hands before running out, but Ben had already opened the door.
"Uncle Jay! Aunt Lonnie!" a happy little girl's voice called out. My seven-year-old daughter, Mallory, hugged Jay and Lonnie tightly, and smiled even wider when she saw who was behind them. "Jason!"
She pulled the eight-year-old boy into a hug, and my five-year-old son, Brandon, ran down the stairs to see who it was, also hugging his aunt, uncle, and cousin.
I walked up and pulled my brother into a hug, before doing the same to my sister-in-law.
"Let's go play in my room," Mallory said eagerly, and she and Jason ran up the stairs, Lory taking them two at a time. Soon, the doorbell rang again and all the guests were piling in. Uma and Harry with their daughter Ulani; Carlos and Evie with their twins, Elena and Carson; Gil and Audrey with their oldest - Adira - and the twins, Centia and Liam. The kids all ran into either Mallory or Brandon's rooms, playing games with each other.
Mallory's POV
I led Elena, Carson, Jason, and Adira to my room. We all sat down and I said, "So, does anyone have any interesting stories about our mommies and daddies when they were teenagers?"
"Why should we tell stories about that?" Jason asked, not in a rude way but sounding genuinely curious.
"Because it's a day about family and being thankful for stuff," I said, although I was really just curious.
"Oh! I have one!" Elena said. "Mommy told me this last night."
"What happened?" I asked, leaning forward and propping myself up on my elbows. Adira leaned against my bed, while Carson just looked at his sister. Jason was sitting on my desk chair already, so he didn't move.
"Well, remember they told us that at Uncle Ben's coronation Auntie Mal's mom appeared and tried to take over Auradon but our mommies and daddies stopped her?"
We all nodded, and Elena continued.
"Well, apparently there's something they didn't tell us."
"Why?" Adira asked, pulling her long blonde hair back so it didn't fall in her face.
"Apparently they thought it would be too scary, but Mommy told me and I think it's cool. So, listen! This is a super cool story and it's a secret so shh!"
We all leaned forward and she continued, "Auntie Mal's mom put Uncle Jay under a sleeping spell! The same one she did on Aurora!"
"So Mama woke him up?" Jason asked, but Elena shook her head, making me frown in confusion. If Auntie Lonnie didn't wake him up, who did?
"Auntie Mal did."
I stared in shock. How? Mommy and Daddy were True Love, so how did Mommy wake Uncle Jay up? Suddenly, I remembered something Mommy told me a while ago and understood.
"Mommy? Do you think I'll ever have True Love like you and Daddy?"
"I'm sure you will, little dragon. But you may already have it."
"How?"
"True Love doesn't have to be romantic. It could be the sort of love from a parent, a friend, or a sibling."
"Like Brandon, or you and Daddy?"
"Exactly."
"I get it!" I exclaimed. "It's because Mommy loves Uncle Jay like a brother, and True Love doesn't have to be a sort of love our parents have!"
Elena nodded, smiling.
"Exactly!"
Ben's POV
Dinner time came, and we called the kids downstairs. They all poured down the steps, and we sat at the table.
Before we started to eat, Mal cleared her throat and said, "This has been a great day, and I'm so glad we got to spend it with our family. I couldn't be happier than to be right here with my siblings, husband, and children. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!"
"Happy Thanksgiving!" we all repeated, and started to eat. I smiled to myself as I saw Mal and Jay talking to each other. True Love really doesn't have to be romantic. Sometimes the love of family is most powerful.
The End
Eh, I know. Slightly cheesy ending. And I also know Thanksgiving passed, but to me it's always been a day for family and being thankful, and I needed a way for them all to gather.
Also, if you recognize Mallory or her friends, here's a cookie! (::)
