Chapter 4

One weeks later

Ryou walk towards Jonouchi's locker; the plan was to meet the gang there and head to the arcade after school; he hoped Yugi would come this time. This past week, Yugi had declined hanging out with his friends, claiming his grandpa needed help at his shop. Tho, it was unspoken, everyone knew he was lying and using whatever free time he had looking up any information about his father. When Ryou arrived at the meeting place, he was surprise to see his friends Jonouchi and Honda upset.

"Hey guys, whats going on? And where is Anzu?" He looked around the area to see if she was running late.

"Oh," Honda said, "she was asked to show this new kid around our school today, tch, not that it would matter. Anzu and Jonouchi got into another fight about Yugi." When Yugi told his group of friends he had found new leads to search about his father, Anzu volunteer herself (and the group of friends) to help Yugi with his search. While Yugi was very grateful, this was something he wanted to do on his own. Unfortunately, Anzu was dead set on helping her friend, hence Yugi sudden "busyness".

Jonouchi grab his hair in frustration, "All I told ha was dat she should mind ha own business. Yugi will tell us what he finds and/or if he needs our help; den she accuses me of not bein' a good friend, brin' up de tail incident . . . I really got mad," Jonouchi looked down in shame, "Told ha she was the reason Yugi was avoidin' us and called ha a nasty name."

"I get it she can be a bit overprotective of Yugi," Honda said as he cross his arms, "but both of you should apologize to each other; you guys were acting like jerks."

"Umm . . . excuse me," Ryou interrupted, "I don't mean to get off topic . . . but . . . Yugi has a tail?!"

Jonouchi looked at Ryou with confusion, "Ya, I dough you knew? We talked about it on Duelist Kingdom. Heck, he had it unravel half the time dere."

"I don't remember that conversation, the spirit must have been in control during that time; and once we found out about Yami, I though it had something to do with him. Umm, if you don't mind me asking, what is this 'tail incident'."

Jonouchi began to tell Ryou about Yugi's tail and the reasons why he hid it. Obvious having a tail isn't normal, even between between human and anthropomorphic children. These kids would take after their mother or father, but not both.* The other reason (which Jonouchi told Ryou quietly), squeezing his tail is very painful, to the point he can't even move. One day Jonouchi and Honda accidentally found out about his tail, and began to tease him about it; calling him a monkey or telling him he should go back to the zoo. When Yugi didn't defend himself, Jonouchi grab his tail, hoping to get him to "man up" and finally defend himself. Yugi immediately seized up and fell face first into the ground. He immediately let go of his tail and feared he may have actually killed Yugi. After that, Jonouchi and Honda never talked about his tail again, they even went as far as to squash any rumors of Yugi having a one. Jonouchi finish his story by the time they got to the school entrance. As the group of friends headed out, Honda notice some kid at the end of the steps.

"Hey kid what are you doing here, do you need some help?" Honda never seen this kid before and wanted to make sure he was safe. While bullying hasn't been a big problem for the past 5 months, there were still those who would beat anyone up, even little kids.

The kid look up at the group, and turn away angrily, "Waiting for my dad and dumb big brother." The kid looked to be about five or six years old. He had black spiky hair, lite purple pants and shirt, along with a sleeves-less cheongsam with lime green trimming.

Ryou bend down to meet him at eye level, he then ask gently "Why is your brother dumb?"

"Because, he wants to leave me and go to this stupid school," the kid reply without looking at Ryou.

"You guys don't look like you go to the same school."

"We're homeschool, but he want to be with other kids his own age. He doesn't want to be with me anymore," now the boy looked like he wanted to cry.

"Does your brother have any friends?"

"Ya, there's Icarus, he's a dragon. Then there's Mr. Piccolo, my brother's mentor. Then there is all my dad's friends."

"Umm," Ryou was not only surprise about the dragon, but the fact his brother didn't have any friends his own age, "Do you have any friends?"

The kid turn to Ryou, his downcast face turn to excitement, "Ya! My best friend Trunks! He's a year older then me, but he's the coolest."

"I don't think your big brother is leaving you. He's just trying to find a friend around his age, just like you have Trunks."

" . . . I guess . . . mmm?" the kid stared at the boy in front of him. He looked the same, but felt different. "Hey, who are you?"

"Ryou" looked shock with the question and suddenly his expression change to confusion. He looked at the kid again, "I'm sorry, what was your question again."

"The other guy, where did he go?"

"Other guy . . .?" My mind went blank for a few seconds, though Ryou, did. . . did this kid sense the spirt?!

"Goten. Ready to go?" A man who looked like a carbon copy of the kid, except older came from the school entrance. "Gohan is going to meet us back home. Your mom gave me a list of supplies to pick up. Come on we'll stop by and get some ice cream too."

"Ya!" Goten. Goten ran to his father and jump into his arms, as they left, the little boy turned around, "Thanks mister . . . I guess my brother isn't that dumb."

"Man Ryou", Honda complemented, "I didn't know you were good with kids. Maybe you could babysit my sister's kid next time."

"Oh no, I'm not great with kids, it's just . . . ," Ryou fondly looked at Goten, "For some reason, he reminded me of my sister."

For the past 30 minutes, Anzu was showing the new kid (Gohan) around the school, usually this would take about 15 minutes, but she kept making mistakes or repeating herself. She couldn't get the conversion between herself and Jonouchi out of her mind. "And here is your classroom, it's the same one that I got to, so if you need any help just ask me".

"Oh, ya, thanks for letting me know . . . again. Umm . . . I know you don't know me or anything, but are you ok. You seem kind of out of it." When Anzu turn to look at Gohan, he felt that he may have overstep his boundaries. Worried, he put both of his hand in front of him, "Not that you own me an expiation or anything," he chuckled nervously.

"It's . . .", Anzu wanted to tell him it's nothing, but she really needed to get this off her chest. Plus he was an outsider, so he would have an unbiased opinion. "Well, before showing you around the school, I got into a fight with a friend." She proceeded to tell Gohan the fight she had with her friend Jonouchi over their mutual friend, Yugi, and his situation (without giving out too much information. It doesn't feel right to her letting Gohan know something this personal) . "He called me a "bitch" and I felt so mad at him for that; but, thinking it over, I was acting like one. I mean, he's changed, hasn't bully Yugi at all; they've even become the best of friends, but I still held some of his past actions over his head. Now I'm worry he won't forgive me."

"Well, the way you describe Jonouchi I would say he would forgive you. I think both of you guys need to say sorry to each other, and maybe you tell Yugi you're sorry too."

"Sorry? Sorry for what, I just wanted to help him. What's wrong with that?"

"I'm not saying its wrong for helping a friend, but . . . this situation seems really personal to Yugi. I think he'll tell you when he's ready, but right now he needs a friend and not a noisy mother hen."

Anzu, really wanted to tell Gohan that he was wrong, he knew nothing about Yugi, so he should just mind his own business, but she was the one that asked for his opinion, so getting upset with him wasn't right. She was Yugi's first friend, she always would look after him and defend him from bullies, but maybe that was the problem. Even though Yugi has gain more self confidence, she still sees him as someone who needs defending.

"I . . .Your right Gohan. I'm so use to protecting him in my own way that I'm not considering what he wants. Thanks for listening. Heh, your so mature for your age, are you the voice of reason in your group of friends."

"Not really . . . I do have friends . . . but there most through my father."

"What!? You don't have any friends your own age! Well it'll be a honor to be your first friend here at Domino High School. I'll even introduce you to my group of friends as well next time we meet."

Gohan looked at Anzu outstretched hand, This is great! School hasn't even started and I made one friend already, he shook it and happily said, "Friends"

If you don't know anything about DBZ there are anthropomorphic characters. Well mainly they were shown in DB. I always though it was kind of funny how people thought Goku having a tail was weird even though there were walking/talking animals. So I figure if humans and anthropomorphic characters either didn't get together or their children took after one parent and not both.
