Sunshine #1: Kid Named Lee

July 17th, 2020. A totally ordinary day for most, but for a kid named 'Lee' it was a birthday. 16 year old Lee sat at the table, awaiting his parents arrival with a cake in tow. Lee was fairly different, he was shorter than average, had long hair and wore glasses, he was also unsocial as hell. He didn't like talking to people let alone leaving the house, rather he spent his time playing video games and browsing the internet in his room.

His little sister, Emily, sat across from him. She was the exact opposite to Lee, she was a social butterfly and excelled at everything Lee sucked at. She had a big ol' smile on her face, which was directed mainly at Lee. Then, the dreaded singing approached from the kitchen and made its way slowly to the dining room where Lee and Emily sat. The light of the candles could be seen approaching far before the actual cake arrived but it did eventually, his parents planted the cake down on the table in front of Lee and prompted him to blow on it.

He sighed, but did so because he knew there was no other way of him getting out of the situation. His parents cheered and then cut a slice of the cake for the four of them. The cake was just about the only part pleasant about the evening, it was Lee's favourite. Vanilla Cheesecake with whip cream swirls on top. He took the fork in his hand and then carefully sliced into the cake, he then plunged the fork and the cake into his mouth. He smiled because the taste was magnificent, it burst with flavours so divine it seemed wrong.

After Lee had finished his cake his parents said "It's time for presents!" because they decided to keep the present opening until after dinner. They brought up a big, red box and sat it in front of him. He looked at it, he knew it was something special because of how secretive they were being about it and how carefully they placed it on the table. He pulled at the tape on the end of the box before unwrapping it fully. It was PB5 (Playbox 5), he was caught off guard by this, he didn't expect such an expensive present so he was shocked.

The PB5 is the newest and most powerful console of all time. It supposedly holds a shard of an extra-terrestrial energy crystal inside but that's obviously just a lie… right?

Lee's mother tapped Emily on the shoulder and she nodded before bringing a smaller box up onto the table, she handed it to Lee and he tore the wrapping off. Under the terribly done wrapping was Lee's rebooted favourite game 'Sunshine' which was based on his favourite superhero of the same name. He thanked both his parents and sister before sprinting away upstairs to get started on the setup.

Lee unboxed everything and unplugged his now inferior PB4 to make space for the newest edition to his setup. He ever-so carefully placed the PB5 down on his desk and plugged in all the wires and cables into the right places before plugging the controller in too. He turned the console on and awaited the glorious opening screen of the new console. Of course he needed to wait for the console to update and then he needed to wait for the game to update but that was nothing but anticipation for Lee, he didn't mind waiting at all.

To pass the time, Lee watched Sunshine movies. Sunshine is a female superhero who could control the powers of the sun to defeat her enemies with ease. Lee watched her movies from when he was little and has loved every single one of them. Sunshine was actually a real superhero but she disappeared years ago and has never been seen since.

Lee had never met Sunshine but he really wanted to, he continued playing and watching all the media revolving around her to try and find a hint of where to find her. He was yet to find a lead however, but the game could maybe have his something so he was excited to play it.

The Next Day

The next day Lee hopped out of bed, he had left his console on all night. However, when he walked over to his desk, he didn't find a newly installed game, much rather he found his PB5 glowing brightly, so brightly that he couldn't even look at it.

He pressed the power button and the light grew at a rapid pace, quickly taking him and the rest of the room in. He was only conscious for a second before the blinding light became too much and he fainted. He then awoke, on his floor, still in his underwear. His mother was yelling for him to get up because it was time for school. It was his first day of his last year which was something to be excited about. He hopped up to his feet and a speed quite unusual to him, it was almost like someone lifted him up.

He shook his head and remembered he had to get ready for school. He turned around to his closet and stepped towards it, only he was now directly in front of it, something was definitely weird. He looked over to the console and it looked the same as it did before, he tilted his head like a dog does when it's confused by something. He then turned back to his closet and opened it up. He threw on his shirt and trousers before doing up his tie and putting on his shoes, he then put on his blazer and headed out of the door, he took one step out of the room and sprinted up the wall and landed face first on the ground after falling. "What the…?" He again hopped to his feet at a speed unusual to him.

He ran into the bathroom brushed his teeth and then walked as slowly as possible down the stairs. His mother questioned why he was walking so slow, he just shrugged because even he didn't really know how to explain the situation. His mother handed him his lunch money and pushed him out of the door and to her car, where he then hopped in followed by her starting the car and driving away…
