AN: I'm pretty sure I own nothing. I definitely do not own Titanfall or RWBY, which belong to their respective owners. Im thinking about getting XR some nose art, some type of Grimm would be pretty awesome I think. I felt that splitting the first day of Beacon was more manageable than doing it as a whole block, lets me throw some back story and extra team interactions in before the show kicks in.

Morning came quickly for Steele; the sun hadn't risen as he woke a small table clock displaying that it was just before 0500. He had slept in his jumpsuit, not having anything else to wear and his new uniform in a small footlocker at the foot of his bed. The rest of the team was still sleeping deeply judging by their breathing and snoring. They wouldn't be waking for another few hours if the schedule that Ruby gave him was accurate, the first class started at 0900 so he had plenty of time to train before classes.

He made his way back to the armory; he would be doing his morning routine in the AWS to help him familiarize himself with it. he would go light this morning and only do a 10km run before settling in to spend some time working with XR, boxing perhaps, maybe some Muay Thai. Practicing martial arts was a great way to work on your link with a Titan, the mix of movements and techniques perfect for learning how to move with and coordinate with your Titan.

He strapped on the R-301 and the Archer to get some weight up, the 2020 slid into its cross draw on his chest. Checking that all his ammo was in place he realized he still had to figure out why his pouches kept refilling on their own; it was starting to concern him, just to test it he threw a mag on the ground. He waited a few seconds and then reached into the pouch and removed a fresh mag, repeating the test yielded the same result. He scavenged the mags off the floor and loaded them in his locker.

It was still dark as he set out on his run; he made his way out into the forest that surrounded Beacon, climbing down the cliffs before he started counting the distance. He got some decent target practice clearing out individual Grimm that were along his route, short bursts from the 301 sufficient for killing the small ones while he needed nearly a full mag for the medium sized ones, the smart target helping with the weaker specimens. Thankfully he didn't encounter anything on the scale of the Nevermore, that would take more firepower than he brought with him.

The sun had started to come up when he turned to make his way back to the school, he was keeping a light pace dragging the run out to a full hour. There was almost no resistance on his way back, his earlier efforts seeming to have worked. He was having a damn good time until he heard a branch crack under the weight of something. He threw a pulse knife in the direction of the sound, adrenaline flooding his body as the pulse detected a single person in the trees.

He dropped into a slide, throwing a holo-Pilot before phasing and grappling the tree that the person was hiding in. he came out of phase above and behind his target, he drew his data-knife as he fell on top of them. It wasn't until he had them pinned with his knees on their shoulders and his knife at their neck that he recognized them. "Blake?"

Blake had been confused when she woke before the sun came up, the sounds of Forrest getting ready piquing her interest. What was he doing so early in the morning? She decided to follow him; if he was telling the truth about his past, then he had no idea about Remnant and could find himself in danger. Her suspicions paid off when he went to the locker room and loaded up for combat. He did a curious thing where he threw a magazine from one of his pouches onto the floor and then a second time, putting both magazines into his locker.

She followed him to the cliffs, where he proceeded to simply jump off the side. She leaped down after him, staying to the trees, it was still dark out and there were plenty of Grimm in the forest. She quickly realized that this was just a morning workout for him, a steady running pace in a dead bearing to the east giving it away. She figured that there was no harm in following him for the rest of his run, he was the only one who knew the extent of his abilities and he hadn't had time to learn to fight the Grimm.

He was relentless, steady pace unbroken even when he started shooting. It was impressive honestly, even while running every shot landed dead on target, reloads were smooth and well practiced. He stopped and turned back towards Beacon after around half an hour, she stopped and turned to follow him when she jumped onto a branch that wasn't quite strong enough to hold her.

His reaction was instant; he threw a knife in her direction; she was surprised as a ping emitted from the knife that she could only hear with her cat ears. As the pluses passed over her, he dropped into a slide and aimed his rife dead at her. There was a flicker in his shape and a bunch of smoky tendrils that came off him, she stilled and was bringing her hands up when she heard a dull pop and was crushed as something fell on top of her and held a knife to her throat. There was a short pause and an increase in the pressure on her throat before it released. "Blake?"

She was more than a little confused; she didn't know anyone who could sneak up on her like that, her time in the White Fang had granted her a level of skill and paranoia that wasn't so easy to beat. She had a clue on how he pulled it off, his Semblance must have been like hers, a clone-based ability that could turn him invisible once he activated it.

"what are you doing out here? Takes some skill to stalk a Pilot; must be… cat like to stay in the branches like that." A cold pit formed in her gut even as he sheathed his blade; he knew, somehow, he knew that she was a Faunus. How? He helped her to her feet and removed his helmet, his eyes indicating that he was still weary of her.

She decided to not acknowledge his pointed comment, instead focusing on what would make he look like a good teammate. "I… couldn't help but wonder what you were doing at five in the morning, when I saw you were going outside, I thought you could use an escort if something went wrong."

"Then why not show yourself instead of stalking me through the forest for half an hour?"

"I wanted to know what you were doing, when I realized you were training… I didn't want to get in your way."

He sighed "well… might as well head back together unless you have some other reason for being in the forest?"

Steele was impressed with her skill, less so with her reasons for following him. It made a level of sense if you were paranoid and or timid/shy. he didn't buy it; she was his teammate; she should have just talked to him. He led the way back to Beacon, Blake keeping steady pace beside him. She looked over at him before speaking. "Your Semblance… how exactly does it work? I have clones as well, but yours seem different."

He was thrown completely off by that statement, it made no sense to him, what the hell was a Semblance? Did she say she could use clones? What? "what are you talking about? Semblance… that sounds important, what is it?"

"you… don't know what a Semblance is? What about Aura, do you at least know what that is?"

Aura, Semblance, these words seemed important to him. They might be an explanation for some of the shit he saw the day before, the whole moving and fighting like they did without a jump kit. "I might know it by a different term, but I don't think so."

She just stared at him for a few strides. "Aura is the manifestation of your soul, it extends from you to protect you, it helps you heal, makes you stronger and faster, and is needed to discover your Semblance. Your Semblance is what makes you unique, what sets you apart from the others. Its not certain if your Semblance determines who you are as a person or the other way around, each is different, many people don't ever discover theirs. Mine lets me leave a clone behind, Weiss has her family inherited glyphs, Yang… lights on fire and gets angry, not sure about Ruby yet."

Yeah… that was nothing like anything Steele was familiar with, souls and superpowers and general bullshit. There was one thing that didn't track though. "Ok, yeah no… this is all new to me. So if these Semblances are unique, then how does Weiss's family have a hereditary Semblance?"

"like I said, each is unique, no one really knows how they work. In Weiss's case part of her Semblance is that it passes down through the family. Sometimes they can be similar as well, I thought you had a clone-based Semblance too.

"when I came through the portal, there was a… glow. I thought it was just the portal, but could it be my Aura, I mean, I could feel the glow."

"its possible, near death experiences can unlock it, so can extensive training-which you have."

A thought struck him; his pouches were being weird. "watch this and tell me what you think." Mid stride he opened a pouch, demonstrating that it was full. He removed a single mag, tossing it over to Blake. "Keep a hold of that and eyes on the pouch." He closed the pouch, then opened it again a few seconds later, revealing it to be full.

Her eyes widened slightly. "A passive Semblance, those are extremely rare. Normally you have to train hard to discover and make use of your Semblance, if you have a passive one though it will activate as soon as you unlock your Aura. Often less impressive than their more traditional counterparts, Passive Semblances make up for it with their constant presence. Infinite resupply seems particularly useful for a soldier like yourself."

They settled back into silence for the rest of the run, Steele had hit his saturation point for weirdness, past this point he figured that he would just take everything in stride as if it was normal. He could figure this world out later, just focus on what was ahead and he would come out ok. One foot in front of the other, keep breathing steady… nope. Panic time.

Nothing made sense suddenly, he was a Pilot not a fucking superhero. His chest was tight, his breathing harder than it should have been, his vision blurred. He had always been a mercenary, a nomad, but he had never felt so far from home, or so afraid. He focused on what he could understand, what made sense. His rifle, his HUD, the feel of the ground under his feet. He hadn't had an episode in years, of course he would have one now, when he needed to be steady.

Slowly things came back together, nothing made sense yet, but he could focus. He would work through this one step at a time, with his team. He had time to figure this shit out, there were classes, he could learn and train, it was just like Pilot training all over again. He could do this.

He came to the sudden realization that his ammo counter was flashing empty; he didn't remember firing it or what he was shooting at. The last time he had been that out of it was the first time on Maldovir, he just went into autopilot when he panicked. Engaging and fighting unconsciously, he defaulted to pure aggression when the adrenaline hit. It was one of the reasons that he was given Pilot training; when the ACEs found him he had been in a blind panic, injuring a pair of Militia grunts and a Pilot before the Pilot was able to subdue him. Ok, he had taken out their shins and broke the Pilot's nose with a pipe, but it still counted.

He reloaded, ignoring the pouch refilling on its own. He wasn't fully ready to deal with his superpower yet, just get back to Beacon. The school was only a few minutes away by the time he had come back fully to his senses. Blake split off wordlessly, leaving him to the climb back up the cliff. He decided to make a parkour run of it, small out crops of rock making a good substitute for walls as well as mantling points.

He made his way to the Hangar once he had climbed the cliff, he needed to get a good work out in and XR could use the training. XR was waiting in the exact spot that Steele had left him the night before, the only difference was the partially disassembled XO-19 that XR was performing maintenance on. "Hey there buddy, how's the gun looking?"

"Forrest, XO-19 in optimal condition, ready for operation pending reassembly."

" awesome, ready up big guy, we're going to do some training together. You know anything about martial arts? Cause that's what we are going to do."

XR reassembled his X0-19, slinging it on his back as they left. Steele felt a little bad for anyone he woke up teaching XR how to spar at 0600, but really, they were here to train as warriors, they could deal with it. Punches, kicks, elbow and knee strikes, basic katas and patterns all made the next hour fly by. It was a good time, XR was a fast learner and Steele needed the exertion. When they were done, he got XR back to his hangar before making his way back to the room. A quick shower and a change into the school uniform had him feeling ready for the day, until he stepped into the main room to the sound of a whistle.
