"They say home is where your
heart is. Mine is across the
universe, among the stars"
To say that Lily was angry will be an understatement. Lily Evans, my best friend, is furious. And the reason behind it is me.
"Ellie, for the love of god, come out of the bathroom", Lily calls. "We are late on our usual schedule."
She hates being late. Being late is like the end of her world, I think, shaking my head. I cast a hair drying spell on my wet hair and open the bathroom door.
"I am here Lil-Jill. Just relax for once", I answer raising my hands in mock surrender.
She frowns and says, "Don't call me that. You know how much I hate that."
"I know. That is why I call you that, Lil-Jill," I snicker. She rolls her eyes but I can see her suppressed smile.
It is our 2nd week for our final year at Hogwarts. All the seventh years, practically adults are enjoying and making the most of their final year at Hogwarts.
All, except Lily, that is.
She is so concerned about our final year saying that this is going to define our futures. She needs good grades to get her dream job as Auror. She thinks she has to excel in all classes.
My dream job is being a healer. I have to pay attention in almost all classes for that, but I don't stress over the future like Lily. She wants everything to be sorted out even before she finishes school.
We make our way to the common rooms. On the way I ask her about Marlene, Mary and Alice.
"Mary and Marlene are already in the Great halls and Alice is most probably flirting with Frank," she answers.
I chuckle and shake my head.
We talk about some random stuff as we reach the Great Hall for breakfast. We start walking towards the Gryffindor table when a familiar voice calls us.
"Oi Evans, Baker. Come sit here with us", calls the voice of the infamous James Potter.
I turn towards Lily to look at her reaction. To be honest, every time James says a word, the look on Lily's face is priceless.
I bite my bottom lip to control my laughter and pull Lily with me towards their table. The moment we sit down, she gives me the scariest glare she can manage. I ignore her and start to make conversation with Marlene, who is already seated next to Mary, who is eating her food, her nose behind a book.
"Morning Ellie." Marlene says and smiles at me brightly.
"Morning."I reply returning her smile. Mary looks up at me and shoots me a smile and flying kiss before going back to her reading.
Alice, in fact really is sitting and flirting with Frank, looking as red as Lily's hair.
I fill my plate with toast and fried eggs. I take a long sip from my juice and feel the pleasure of it go down my throat.
"Elliza Baker. Won't you greet me?" says Sirius Black as he puts an arm around my shoulders, making me freeze.
I quickly shove his arm off of me, rolling my eyes. "Black," I say with disgust lacing my tongue and nod towards him.
I try to focus my attention on Lily and Remus's conversation.
"-complete the Defence essay?"I hear Remus ask Lily.
Lily nodded as she took a bite from her toast.
"Remus, good morning," I say smiling brightly at him. To be honest, Remus is the only marauder I can tolerate. The others... well, the others are too annoying to spend a single second with.
He turns to look at me and gives me a small smile. "Ellie, how are you doing?"
"I am doing well and you look like you are doing well too." I say.
It was true. He did look good today. His scars were hardly visible and he didn't have shadows under his eyes. I have often asked him about all these scars over his face but he avoids it all the time and I have learnt by now it is something very personal and it was not my business to interfere in it. Nonetheless, we were good friends.
"So Evans, changed your mind about our little date in Hogsmeade this weekend?" asks James who is sitting next to the timid looking Peter.
Everyone on the table chuckles at his question, obviously knowing the answer.
Lily is about to reply but Sirius beats her to it. "Prongs," he says "stop wasting your time. You know the answer as well as all of us." He says in a teasing way.
Words leave my mouth before I can stop them. "At least he has got his attention on one girl and is not changing his girl every week just because he can't control his hormones."
Marlene gasps and then 'oohs' when I say that. Lily has started to laugh as everyone joins in. Potter pulls Black's cheeks and says "Oh poor Paddy. Just got whiplashed by words."
He pushes James's hands away and frowns for a few moments. His frown changes to a smirk as he looks at me directly in the eye. "Oh she speaks. I thought you lost the ability to speak and all you did was frown, glare and scowl at others." He mocks.
I scoff at that and straighten my shirt, standing up. "Honestly Black, that's all you have got for a comeback?" I tell him and turn to look at Lily and Marlene. "Shall we go?" I ask them. They nod and mumble "Of course" and get up. Mary and Alice don't have this class with us.
I wave at Remus as we walk away from the Great Hall and make our way to the classes.
I am fuming by the time we exit the Great halls. I am so sick of this. This is the usual routine that takes place. I say something and Black angers me by replying or the other way around.
"Chill Ellie, you know how Sirius is." Says Marlene as they enter the DADA classroom.
"Yeah, yeah I know" I say "but that doesn't change the fact that he gets on my nerve."
"Everyone gets on your nerve. Besides he doesn't keep asking you on a date and only fights with you" says Lily. "Potter just doesn't know when to stop".
Marlene rolls her eyes at that and says "Oh please Lils. You totally like him. Stop pretending like you don't like the attention he gives you."
"No I don't", Lily scowls. "I hate him."
"Yeah yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night."
"Lily and Potter are another story but what is up with Alice and Frank? Are they dating yet?" I ask.
"Yeah, they are going on a date this weekend." She says and Lily squeals, mumbling "I knew they would get together. I shipped them since day one!"
As we walk, Black's words replay in my head. All you do is frown, scowl and roll your eyes, he had said.
"I really don't frown, scowl or glare all the time, do I?" I ask them as we reach the corridor of the DADA class.
Lily and Marlene share a look burst out laughing. "Yes you do. All the time!" Lily answers.
"No I don't." I scowl but stop when I realize what I just did.
Lily and Marlene are clutching their stomachs and laughing even more by now.
"See, what I mean?"
I glare at them but end up getting even more frustrated at the situation.
Do I really frown and scowl so much?
