Every Cyberman at once thumped its fist on its center chest disk and stomped its foot. Dust flew everywhere as Cyberman boot thrusters started up. Missy smiled.
"Back, back, everyone, back!" a soldier shouted.
The Cybermen blasted into the air. The Doctor's rocket boots blasted as well and he shot after the Cybermen. The Cybermen were faster and spread all different directions. The Doctor stopped to watch them, knowing there was nothing he could do. He looked in surprise to see the lead dome of St. Paul's opening like a flower. He watched it as he floated back down to join UNIT.
"There's going to be mass panic. Everyone in London can see that," the Doctor heard Kate say when he entered hearing range.
More Cybermen flew out of the dome and spread every direction. One flew straight up.
"Everyone in London just clapped and went 'whee'. Hush, I'm trying to count," the Doctor said as he landed.
The Doctor woke with a start and floated defensively. He realized his hands were cuffed behind his back. "Kate? What's with the handcuffs?" He waved his feet downward instead of his hands and floated upward. "You know they can barely stop me anymore," he added as he flew in a circle around Kate, pulling up his knee to use his feet instead of arms to keep his balance.
"That's why we have this." Kate held up a small chain.
The Doctor realized it was attached to his handcuffs. "You just gave me my hands back." He wrapped his fingers around the chain and it yanked itself out of Kate's grasp.
She reached for it and it jerked away. It snaked back around her legs and floated beside a grinning Doctor and waved at her.
"Okay." She pulled out a pencil and pad. "No chains, ropes, or anything of the sort within the Doctor's reach," she said as she wrote. She held out her hand. "Now give it to me."
The Doctor's smile vanished and the chain laid an end in Kate's hand before falling limp. He turned around and let his feet touch the ground. "Why are you trying to tie me up?"
Kate worked to disconnect the chain from the handcuffs. "I'm sorry. In the event of an alien incursion on this scale, protocols are in place. Your cooperation is to be ensured and your unreliability assumed."
The Doctor gripped the cargo strap as hard as he could as the plane jerked and trembled violently. He growled and shouted, knowing the plane could crash or explode any moment. The plane ruptured with an ear-splitting boom. The Doctor shielded his face as he fell through the flames. As soon as the heat and flying pieces of metal dissipated, he spread his arms to catch the air and tucked them in to dive. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the TARDIS key. The TARDIS flew up through the clouds and the Doctor shoved the key into the lock as he dove toward it. He flew inside and got his hands firmly on the controls to find Clara.
The Doctor slowly and reluctantly set the controls for the coordinates Missy had relayed. What if it wasn't there? What if it was? What would he do? What would they think of him? Was his family still alive? Would he be strong enough to face his distant past? The TARDIS materialized. The Doctor walked to the doors. He opened it. The empty darkness of space seemed emptier and darker, colder, more lifeless, and crueler than ever. He closed the door and walked back to the console.
He hit it. He hit it as hard as he could. He hit it again and again, growling, shouting, sparks flying off the console. In a blind rage, he flew around, smashing bookshelves and throwing everything in reach. Soon the whole room was trashed. The Doctor floated back to the console, his coat billowing and a few artifacts floating around him.
He wasn't touching them. How were they floating there? Of course. Anger. When he was angry, people's hair fluttered. When he was angry, objects shivered at his fingertips. He hadn't been angry enough when the Master had trapped him in a birdcage. Flight is excitement. Psychokinesis is anger. The Doctor lifted his hand toward one of the artifacts floating in the air. He glared at it and it flew across the room and smashed against the wall. A book opened in front of him and a few pages tore out. He saw the sonic screwdriver on the ground. It floated into the air in front of him.
The Doctor grinned, his eyebrows angrier than ever before.
