To Be a Hero
shiro in wonderland

Shiro walked through a field of white flowers while wondering where she was. For some reason, she didn't remember what happened; rather, she simply didn't have any memory of anything. Did she have a purpose for being here of all places? But where was she before this? She didn't know because her mind was blank.
"What's going on?" she wondered, looking down to see that she was still wearing her U.A. uniform. Wait, what's U.A. and why do I know that? Suddenly, a head of red and white popped up from the field of flowers and she blinked incredulously when her mind automatically registered a name.
"Todoroki-san!"
Todoroki looked at her from the ground and she saw that he was wearing a red suit with a gold pocket watch hanging from the side pocket. However, what caught her attention was the two floppy rabbit ears on top of his head that matched the colors of his hair.
"Hey Shiro," the corners of the male's turned upwards in greeting.
"What are you doing here?" Shiro walked towards him and frowned. "What am I doing here?"
He opened his mouth to answer when the ticking of his pocket watch made him stop and check the time. Mumbling something, he got up and dusted himself off. "I'm late and I need to be somewhere important."
Somewhere important?
She wasn't even sure where this place was, and Todoroki was being way too calm about things. Did he not notice the ears on top of his head? Maybe that was normal... But where in the world would he need to go that he's late for? There was nothing except flat land and flowers around them and it stretched for miles. Shiro immediately followed behind the male with a confused look, and he started to walk faster.
"Wait a second, Todoroki-sa—ah!"
One minute they were walking on the dirt path, the next there was a gaping hole several feet wide under their feet and they were falling through it with incredible speed. Shit, is this where we fall to our deaths?! Through the darkness she felt Todoroki's arm snaking around her waist to hold her against him protectively, drawing her out of her alarmed state as they continued to fall.
"Hold on tight, we'll land soon," Todoroki's voice reassured her. She couldn't see anything so she clutched on his suit tighter, feeling safe that he was by her side like he'd promised.
Huh? When did he promise that?
The wind seemed to slow and the darkness around them started to dissipate until Shiro could finally see her surroundings. Falling through the field of white flowers apparently landed them within a forest. She blinked, finding that the situation was getting weirder by the second.
"I'm very late," Todoroki stated once more and she realized that they were still holding on to each other. The male tucked his pocket watch inside his suit before settling his hands under her neck to lift up her face. Without warning, he kissed her and smiled, "Come on, I'll meet you there."
"Huh?!" Shiro's cheeks tinted pink as her ruby eyes went wide. "Meet me... Where...?"
Todoroki only let her go and disappeared without another word.
...What the fuck?
She probably spent twenty minutes trying to figure out how to get out of the forest after Todoroki had so bizarrely left her there. The trees seemed endless, and she was getting irritated because no matter what direction she took, she seemed to end up back in the same place she started.
There was no way she'd get anywhere, no less the place she was supposedly going to meet Todoroki, if she kept this up. "I swear to god, once I get out of this place I'm going to tear whoever got me here a new one..." she grumbled as she walked by the same giant tree a third time.
"You let your emotions lead you too much," a gruff voice said, jolting her from her anger. She looked up the tree to see a man wrapped inside a giant yellow sleeping bag. In his mouth was a cigarette and he took a long puff before looking down at her. "It's the reason why you can't get out of this place rationally."
"Eraserhead?" Shiro questioned. She realized that she seem to only remember people's names and vaguely that she knew them, but nothing else about them or this world made sense to her. "Since when do you smoke?"
"Since when did I not?"
Ruby eyes blinked again. She didn't remember.
"Right then. Go away, I'm trying to rest. I have dry eye."
"Hold on, Eraserhead! You know how to get out of this forest, don't you? I'm trying to go meet someone... Apparently he's late for something."
He let out another long puff of smoke and Shiro scrunched her nose. For some reason, it made her mad to see the man ruin his health with something like a cigarette. Wasn't it bad enough that he had almost died from a villain attack before?
She held the side of her head; why does she remember that?
"Who are you trying to meet?" Aizawa asked.
His question snapped her back to reality... Or whatever "reality" she was in right now. "My friend... Todoroki-san. He has rabbit ears," she said with her fingers pointed up on her head as emphasis. The man grunted.
"Friend? You're not here to make friends."
Shiro frowned, "Well, I'm not even sure what I am here for. Can you help me or not?"
Aizawa closed his eyes with a sigh, seemingly annoyed with all of her questions though she hadn't even asked that many. The girl was about to walk away when he called out with some advice.
"To get out of the forest, just use your eyes. One side makes things good... The other side makes things worse."
"I have no idea what you're saying," she raised her brow. "And that's not much advice. My eyes can only see that there's no way out of this forest."
It was Aizawa's turn to raise his brow and look at the girl like she was crazy. Not relenting, Shiro held her ground and soon he just sighed again. "So irrational... Fine. I'll have the cat help you."
"The cat?"
"The cat."
"A cat's going to help me?"
"That's what I said. You should listen once in a while."
"Okay... What cat?" Shiro huffed when the exchange simply dragged on without resolve. The man pointed to the tree across from him and she looked over. There was no one and no cat. "Again, what—"
"This one."
She nearly jumped through her skin when a low voice whispered in her ear from behind. It was no cat as she came face to face with an indigo haired male with dark eye bags grinning smugly at her. He was wearing a casual outfit in the shades of deep purple and a pink striped scarf. On top of his head were a pair of fluffy black cat ears.
"S-Shinsou-san...!"
"You're lost?" he asked with narrowing eyes. "You're tripping up a lot these days, aren't you? You're making it easy for me... Well, I guess I'll help you out."
"As if," she rolled her eyes reflexively, though she had no idea what he was talking about. Turning back to see that Aizawa had already closed his eyes to go back to sleep, she sighed and felt it was necessary to thank him for giving her some advice and help, even if they didn't feel particularly helpful at all. "Bye, Eraserhead. Hope you get a good nap in... And you should really stop smoking, it's not good for you."
As the two trailed off, the man smiled softly and put out the cigarette.
"So where exactly are you trying to go?" Shinsou asked after they've walked for a few minutes. His hands were hanging casually in his pant pockets and he seemed to not have a care in the world. The surroundings finally seemed to change around Shiro since he was leading them.
"To tell you the truth," she admitted with an annoyed pout, "Todoroki-san only said he'll meet me 'there'. I appeared in a field of flowers with no memory and was literally dropped in the middle of a forest after falling down a hole, so I don't know where I'm going."
Shinsou chuckled at her seemingly wacky explanation and looked to the sky. It was visible now that the trees were less dense and she could see it was probably mid-day.
"If you don't know," he mused, "then it really doesn't matter where you end up, does it?"
"It matters to me," she retorted, "just get me out of the forest for now. I'll figure something out."
"Hm, I guess you always do."
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing," Shinsou replied nonchalantly and looked at Shiro from the corner of his eyes. She looked cute when she was frustrated and confused. "You don't have memories of who we are, but you know our names?"
"That seems to be the case. It's like I've been brainwashed."
"Now that's kind of rude, though expected from someone in class 1-A."
"Huh?"
"Do you even remember who you are?"
"...Of course," Shiro replied, though she wasn't so sure. She rubbed the sides of her arms as a cool breeze blew past them, making her shiver. He took note of that and took his scarf to wrap over her neck, pulling her face closer to his in the process. Shiro was about to protest when he merely tipped a finger on her lips to silence her smugly.
"Look, we're out of the forest now."
Shiro released her hold on the warm and fuzzy scarf and saw that indeed, they were walking towards what looked like a clearing. Growing encouraged, she grinned. "Finally! It's easier to see without so many trees around. Can you help me find Todoroki-san?"
"I can't," Shinsou rubbed the back of his head. His purple eyes shifted towards somewhere in the distance. "But I know a meddling little dormouse who can probably help you."
Meddling dormouse? she supposed that if Shinsou was a cat, he'd know a mouse... Though she'd rather not know the relationship between them. They walked a little further out before the cat told her to follow the little dirt path and she'll find who he was talking about.
"You're not coming with?" Shiro frowned; she was just starting to like his presence. Shinsou shook his head and pulled her towards him again by the scarf he lent her, his other hand resting on the small of her back as he stared down at her face like he was searching for something.
"The dormouse has an annoying friend, so no," he breathed on her face, making her embarrassed at the closeness. He grinned like a Cheshire cat, "You should hurry. As a favor of you helping me before, just call for me if you need my assistance again. See you around, Aisaka."
Much like how Todoroki had disappeared, Shinsou was gone with a blink. Confused as to what favor she had done for him before, Shiro continued walking on her own. On the little path, she could see a large structure off to the distance on a hill. It looked like two towers and were reflective, like the whole thing was built with glass. She had a feeling that's the place she was suppose to go.
Making up her mind, she headed for that direction. However, as she drew close the edge of another bunch of trees, she heard some commotion coming from within and grew curious. It sounded like people were there and she walked towards the noise.
"Excuse me!" she called out, stepping right into some type of tea party...
Only, it wasn't a happy party that was going on. There was a long table filled with cakes and biscuits, plus an assorted collection of tea pots all piping with steam; however the three people who were there weren't having the best of times. Three names registered in her mind as she looked at what was going on.
Bakugou, wearing a deep green top hat that had a 10/6 card on the brim, was being pulled back by Kirishima, who like Todoroki had a pair of rabbit ears on the top of his fiery red hair. The latter was yelling for Bakugou to calm down because he was scaring Midoriya who was hunched under the table.
The dormouse is Midoriya, Shiro realized when she saw the small, round mouse ears. When said male finally took notice of her, he scrambled on his feet and ran towards her with tears rolling down his wide green eyes.
"Shiro-saaaaaan!" he kneeled in front of her and circled his arms around her torso as he hiccuped. "It's wonderful to see you here!"
"Oh, Shiro-chan! Come have some tea!" Kirishima waved happily at her, though the action made him release Bakugou and the blonde slammed his hand down the table with a resounding bang. A few plates of biscuits and a pink tea pot flew into the air and came crashing on the ground.
"No one's getting any fucking tea until I'm through with Deku! How dare you let that Half and Half Bastard through here you shitty mouse!"
"Todoroki-kun needed a shortcut because he's late!"
"And now I'm going to kill you!"
At the mention of heterochromatic male, Shiro perked up and got into action. Seeing the blonde brought back familiar emotions and fired her up as well. "Oi, Prickhead!" she intercepted Bakugou's fist and knocked him to the ground by using the weight of her entire body and straddled his waist to keep him still. "What the hell is wrong with you? Didn't you just get grounded from fighting with Midoriya-san?!"
Everyone stopped what they were doing as they blinked at the silver-blue haired girl's outburst. Even she recoiled a little bit in surprise because she didn't know why she blurted that out nor why she knew that. Random memories just seem to come back in short bursts.
"...Get the fuck off me, Pigtails," Bakugou grumbled on the ground; all the fight had left his being as he became aware of their position. There was an angry blush adorning his cheeks and Kirishima noticed it.
"Don't worry about Bakugou. He's just a bit mad," the redhead grinned widely with sharp teeth as he set a gentle hand on Shiro's shoulder. "Seriously, come have some tea! We got them from the Duchess and they're delicious!"
So, she found herself sitting between Bakugou and Midoriya at the table while Kirishima piled snacks on her plate and passed around a pot of tea. The blonde would send death glares towards her other side ever so often while the dormouse would pretend he's not there. Shiro picked up her teacup and inspected the liquid inside before taking a gulp—
—Only to spit it back out immediately because it was too hot, spraying in Bakugou's face in the process.
"...Oops," Shiro whistled, though she was not all that apologetic and even felt a familiar feeling of accomplishment as he fumed. Turning to Kirishima since he seemed the most sane, she asked the question that had been on her mind. "You guys know Todoroki-san? I'm suppose to meet him somewhere but people keep disappearing on me and I don't know what the hell is going on."
"You mean you don't know anything?" Kirishima said in surprise. "Do you really not remember why you're here?"
This was something new. The redhead was suggesting that she had a purpose here. Of course, thinking back to all of the events that led her here (there wasn't many) and using the recovered bits of information she got didn't give her the slightest clue.
"No, so can't you just tell me?" she sighed, getting tired of this game of guess-what's-going-on. "Actually, maybe I don't even what to know. This day has been weird and I just want to go home."
"I didn't take you for one to give up so damn easily," Bakugou clipped from beside her. For some reason, there was a giant bowl of neapolitan ice cream in front of him and he was ravaging it. Considering how cold it was, it was amazing he wasn't getting a brain freeze from taking it in by the spoonful. He definitely wasn't normal.
"I'm not giving up...! And you eat ice cream like a barbaric caveman," she snorted as she watched him. Curiously, he was digging at both the chocolate and vanilla but leaving the strawberry untouched. "What's wrong with the strawberry?"
"I think strawberry's a shitty flavor," he smirked. "But you already knew that."
...I did know that, she realized. She didn't know why she didn't remember who they were except for their names, but she sensed that she was good friends with them or close to them in some way. Perhaps going through with her mission of finding Todoroki will finally shed some light on how she got into this situation in the first place.
"If you want to go home," Midoriya finally piped up and pointed to the building she saw earlier with a sweet smile. "You should go there. It's actually where Todoroki-san is headed, too. He has something important to do there."
"Oh! That's great," she said with relief. "I'll go there now. I won't get lost if I follow this path, right?"
The green haired male blinked cutely and then shook his head. "It's a little more complicated than that, but I can take you—" his face was suddenly smashed in with a slice of vanilla cake as Bakugou stood up.
"I'm heading there anyway, and I still got a bone to pick with Half and Half," he declared out loud while Midoriya whined and picked at the cake pieces in his hair. "If you don't wanna get left behind then get your ass moving!"
If you wanted to be the one to take me, all you had to do was say so, Shiro thought with a roll of her eyes. Though, she appreciated his offer and followed behind after waving goodbye to the other two.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Shiro questioned as the skin between her brows creased. They started down the path from where the tea party was, but now they were going off-trail and she could hear the sound of water ahead of her. Midoriya did say that the way to the tall glass building was complicated, but it didn't seem like they were anywhere near water before! "I'm not trying to question your road sense, but I doubt the building we're going to is near the ocean."
Bakugou let out a low growl and continued to stalk forward.
"Last time I checked, it was on top of a hill."
"I know where I'm going!" he shouted, only to receive a doubtful look from the girl since he didn't give an explanation. "This way by the ocean is a faster route. Just stop complaining and stick close or you'll get roped in to do some stupid shit by him."
What does he mean by that? Shiro blinked and followed close behind. At least, she did for a while until she saw a large, muscular man with blonde hair running towards them at incredible speed. His smile was as bright as the sun.
"All Might...?"
"I am here!" he exclaimed. "Young Bakugou, Young Aisaka, come join the race!"
"What race?" Shiro asked curiously. The man laughed and pointed to the group behind him. Kaminari, Uraraka, Mina, and Sero waved at them excitedly as they stood near the water's edge. There was a wave as intense as a small tsunami in the horizon and rolling towards the shore.
"We're racing the wave, of course! The fastest person—in other words, the last person the wave reaches, wins!"
"Why..." Shiro had so many questions but she decided to ask the most obvious one. "Are you guys racing the wave?"
"To train!" All Might grinned once more.
"Huh, I guess that's part of hero training," she nodded and then blinked. Huh?
"Exactly, Young Aisaka! So, do you two want to join?"
"No way. We've got somewhere to be!" Bakugou declined firmly, but All Might was already ushering Shiro towards the group and Bakugou let out an annoyed growl before followed suit. "Damnit!"
"Alright, get ready!" All Might announced as he got into running position. Before Shiro or Bakugou could have any say in the matter, the mini tsunami was already rushing forward. The man shouted, "GO! PLUS UUULTRA!" and they were forced to run with the group with the impending wave hot on their tail.
"That's why—" Bakugou's voice was nearly muffled by the loud rumbling of the water but Shiro could just hear him, "—I told you to stick close!"
"No use complaining now!" she bit back. "How are we suppose to outrun this?!"
"This way!"
Bakugou suddenly grabbed her and she was hurled to the right with him. Without a moment to waste, the male wrapped his arms around her and quickly rolled behind the big rocks by the ocean just as the wave crashed onto shore. It drenched everyone except the two who managed to only get partially wet. Huffing and out of breath, the two stayed in their position for a moment more as voices from the group chattered about.
"That was fun!" Mina cried with a fist in the air. She was the fastest behind All Might himself.
"I nearly got knocked out, man!" Sero complained.
"Y-Yey..." the wave had hit Kaminari the fastest and hardest, so he was a bit disoriented.
"We're drenched!" Uraraka exclaimed, pulling at her wet clothes. "How would we get dry?"
"Hahaha!" All Might's deep voice boomed loudly. "Do not worry, young ones! The fastest way to get us dry would be a Caucus-race! Now come on!"
Shiro could only stare at the group incredulously as they started to run in a circle with All Might as the leader. She finally got what Bakugou meant and was regretful in not listening to him sooner.
"Told you," Bakugou scoffed from above her when he saw her understanding expression. He extended a hand to pull her up, and without letting go of her hand, he continued to pull her along with him. "Now come on," he grumbled.
The ocean water had been cold, but their joined hands had a familiar warmth.
In less time than she'd expected, they reached a French garden in front of the tall glass building. The garden was beautiful and surrounded by lush, green hedges which formed an extensive and complicated maze.
"We have to solve this maze to get to the building?" Shiro realized glumly. "Why is it so complicated?"
"It's security measures," Bakugou grunted, and she threw him a look that asked 'for what'. He jabbed his thumb back towards the direction of the trees where camera flashes from reporters with mics were running towards them. "Against vermin."
"Isn't he that one victim from before?"
"Bakugou! Tell us about the Sludge Villain!"
It's those troublesome reporters who caused a security breach last time! she thought before she registered that Bakugou was speeding away already. "Hey, wait up!"
"I ain't sticking around for that!" he shouted behind him, red eyes furrowed in an irritated expression as he urged Shiro to pick up her speed. "Stick close or you'll get lost!"
Shiro huffed as Bakugou disappeared from her sight completely once she rounded the same corner. They had managed to lose the reporters but in the process, she had lost the blonde. She was now alone in this giant maze of hedges.
I'm lost again... she sighed. She could just hear Eraserhead in the back of her head, saying 'use your eyes' as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "How am I gonna get out of this one?"
"Just call for me if you need my assistance again."
She remembered those words from Shinsou and started looking around her surroundings. It seemed like an unlikely place for the cat to be lounging around, since the last place they parted was at the forest's edge. But knowing that this place was weird and unexplainable to begin with, she tried her luck anyway.
"Shinsou-san, if you're here right now... I need your help."
There was silence saved for the birds chirping in the garden for a moment, but then a low chuckle sounded besides her. Shinsou had appeared on her right, seemingly popping out from the tall hedge as it was the only possible way, but she didn't even want to question how he got there.
"Did you figure out where you wanted to go?" he asked.
Shiro nodded and pointed to the glass building. "That place..." she paused for a moment before something flashed in her mind. "U.A."
Shinsou's lips quirked, "It seems you're not as lost as I thought you were."
"Yeah, yeah," the girl fell into step next to the male. They walked in silence for a while, taking twists and turns inside the maze. Shiro suddenly remembered and palmed the soft scarf around her neck, "Oh right, here's your scar...f..."
She hadn't even realized that Shinsou had lead her to the front entrance of the building already, and that he had once again disappeared from her view. Shrugging it off as a common occurence by now, she stepped in front of the giant, imposing door and knocked.
Squeaaaak.
A small head barely peeked out from behind the slighty ajar door. He had large black eyes and a head of purple sphere-shaped hair... And upon seeing Shiro, the door swung open and he jumped at her with all limbs stretched wide.
"WELCOME—ACK!"
Shiro reflexively smacked the small boy to the ground with a glare, "Mineta-san. Who are you suppose to be?"
"I'm the footman, duh," he replied from the ground, his face turning oddly serene as he looked up at her...skirt. "Ah... This view..."
Suddenly, a flurry of plates were being thrown towards Shiro's direction and she reacted just fast enough to dodge the incoming attack as Mineta scrambled on his feet with a screech of terror. He ran past Shiro and into the garden while a figure appeared at the end of the hall inside the building, fuming.
"That idiot needs to be taught a lesson!" Jiro grumbled. She was wearing a uniform that resembled a cook and she was stalking towards Shiro with a glare on her face. "You gotta stay sharp, Aisaka. He's a real pervert. It's exhausting enough that I have to keep him away from Yaoyorozu."
"Aisaka-san!" Momo called out on cue. She was wearing a fancy dress fit for a duchess, and Shiro supposed that's exactly who the girl was. "I'm so glad that you're finally here. The trial is starting soon, so we simply must hurry!"
"The trial?" Shiro echoed. "What trial?"
Momo, who was in the middle of leading her down the long hallway towards a room at the end of the hall, gave her a worried look. "The trial of Shimura Tenko, of course. Have you forgotten?"
Upon entering the room, it was revealed to look like a giant courtroom. Chatters echoed throughout the whole room and people were already seated and ready for the trial to start. Momo and Jiro walked up to the private balcony for the duchess that over looked the room while Shiro was left behind. Looking around, the girl noticed a few things.
On the right side sat seven—no, eight jurors and Shiro remembered them as well. Iida, Tsuyu, Shoji, Koda, Sato, Ojiro, Tokoyami, and Hagakure. She almost missed the girl since only her clothing was visible. In the center of the room where the judge would reside sat two figures wearing crowns and masquerade masks. Todoroki walked in from the left side with notes tucked under his arm. Finally seeing the person she had been searching for this whole time, Shiro was going to run up to him but found that she couldn't because there was just too large of a crowd before her. If she tried to push past, they'll probably stampede her. Nevertheless, Todoroki's heterochromatic eyes somehow found her within the crowd and he smiled.
"Todoroki-san!"
But the blare of trumpets playing completely drowned her out, and in annoyance Shiro could only stand and watch as the male started the trial. Apparenly, Todoroki was the district attorney... Which explained his urgency of getting here without being late.
"Your Majesties, members of the jury, and the audience..." Todoroki addressed swiftly before announcing the one on trial. Two guards brought in a small boy with shaggy black hair into the room and made him stand behind a tall podium. "The defendant is charged with four counts of second-degree murder of his family and one count of petty theft."
"Shimura Tenko," the Queen asked softy. "How do you plead?"
"I..." Tenko couldn't look at anyone. His hands went up to scratch at his neck and twitched nervously. He was obviously really scared. "I... I'm not..."
"Guilty!" the King's voice boomed as he crashed his gavel on the table. "Take him away for sentencing!"
Shiro furrowed her brow deeply as she felt a wave of anger bubble up her throat. How could they just sentence the little boy without any evidence? What even was the point of this trial if the verdict was totalitarian to begin with?
"Hold it right there!" she shouted across the room. "You can't do that!"
"Who do you think you are?" the man behind the mask demanded, hitting his gavel a few more times to quiet the rest of the room down. He ordered guards to sieze her. "I'll charge you for contempt!"
Shiro tried getting out of the way as the guards came at her with weapons. It was too crowded and she couldn't get anywhere without the bystanders getting hurt as well. Shit...! Ruby eyes darted around for a way out in a panic, but she was trapped.
"Just use your eyes."
Again, Aizawa's words echoed in her mind. This time, however, everything finally made sense.
Aizawa Shota is my guardian. I have a Quirk. I go to U.A. High School, and I have friends in the school whom I care about deeply. I know who Shimura Tenko is and I wanted to be...
"A hero..." she muttered out before both of her eyes spun just as the weapons came down on her. She grabbed them and watched as she made the property of the metal to go soft, and then she jumped up and dashed towards the front of the courtroom. Todoroki widened his eyes as she ran past him and stood in front of the defendant protectively. "You can't sentence him without a proper trial! He doesn't even have council so clearly you're just bullying him!"
"And who would defend this monster?" the King sneered.
"I will!" Shiro glared back at the King with conviction. The boy behind her made a noise of surprise and peered at her with terrified ruby eyes. She didn't know why he was so much younger than the rest of them, but nothing else made sense in this world and she decided it didn't matter because she will be the one to protect him this time.
"W-Why...?" Tenko asked. Maybe he didn't remember her because she was much older than him now.
"Because," she smiled reassuringly at him with warm ruby eyes. "No matter what, I'll protect you this time."
"S-Sh...ir..."
"Hmph!" the King's voice tore them out of the heartfelt moment and slammed his gavel. "Defend him if you wish, but the outcome of this trial is still obvious. He's guilty!"
"Let's see some evidence then, your majesty," Shiro prompted. She could see the man glower at her behind the mask as he motioned for Todoroki to present the evidence. After a moment of shuffling notes, Todoroki cleared his throat softly and directed everyone's attention to the big screen on the side of the room.
"First, we'll go over the petty theft charge. Shimura Tenko ran into a convenience store to steal a loaf of bread and a bottle of water," the heterochromatic rabbit relayed, showing everyone the security footage of the boy running out of the store with the items under his shirt. Another one displayed that the store owner had gotten in a punch before the boy scampered away completely.
Shiro saw the second photo and grew angry because that was the same bruise she had saw as a kid. Tenko was already so beat up when they ran away and the store owner couldn't even take pity and still raised a fist to him.
"See?" the King smirked. "Guilty."
"Tenko only stole for his little sister," Shiro interjected sadly. "Because she was hungry... It's..."
"Not is fault?" Todoroki finished for her with a tilt of a brow. "But the result is the same... He still stole from the store. That doesn't make him a hero."
At the mention of not being a hero, the black haired boy looked away with a shiver.
"Then what about the store owner? Why does he get off for hurting a defenseless little kid?!"
"He's the victim," the King quipped, but Shiro was unrelenting.
"And so is Tenko! If you want to serve justice, then you have to serve it fairly to everyone! Otherwise, this stupid system is a broken piece of shit!"
Gasps could be heard around the courtroom as the King slammed his gavel rapidly to quiet them down again. He was incredibly displeased with the brazen silver-blue haired girl, but the Queen besides him rested a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. She smiled gently and nodded for Todoroki to continue.
"Then we'll move on to the next charge," Todoroki said dutifully. "Shimura Tenko manifested his Quirk on the night of the murder, and he used his Quirk on his whole family. Four people are dead."
The screen changed and displayed a gruesome photo of a disintegrated living room and pools of blood where the bodies of the victims lay. Shiro looked away with a wince, remembering vaguely of the blood she saw that night despite Tenko shielding her from most of it. It was a sad night with a event that she couldn't refute, but they were wrong about one thing.
"He didn't kill four people."
Todoroki looked at his notes, "The deceased family consisted of two grandparents, Shimura Kotaro, the father, and Shimura Nao, the mother."
Tenko grabbed at his head with guilt as the deceased family members were listed off, but Shiro objected.
"Tenko had always been unstable, but there were circumstances that led to it—he had been abused all his life and... Grandma and grandpa never stopped it... But I won't deny that Tenko's Quirk was the cause of three people's deaths," her ruby eyes hardened. "But he had nothing to do with Shimura Nao because I was the cause of her death."
Another cacophony of whispers and gasps sounded from the courtroom. They were all curious in knowing why she would say such a thing, all the while the King was gripping onto his throne tightly with accusing eyes. The Queen sat silently and listened.
"I was born into the Shimura family as the youngest daughter. Shimura Nao... Died after giving birth to me," she explained with guilt lacing her own expression. "It was because of me that Tenko didn't have anyone who could protect him from our father."
The King slammed his fist on the table, "You dare blame someone else for this? You both are ungrateful to the one who've raised you!"
"There was nothing to be grateful for!" Shiro exclaimed and glared at the irate man. "Or did you forget what you've done to Tenko, father?"
In the King's anger, the mask had fallen off his face to reveal a man in his early thirties with slicked dark hair and sharp eyes. The rise and fall of his chest while he breathed was the only sound that was heard in the suddenly silent courtroom. Still, Shiro's ruby gaze stayed locked on the man.
"You never treated your eight year old son right. He wanted to become a hero but you pushed him into despair. But you're not the only one at fault... I couldn't save him either, and now..." she fell to her knees as tears threatened to spill from her eyes when she remembered what Tenko had become. Shigaraki. "I've lost him to something evil..."
"You can still save him, Shiragiku."
She raised her head in surprise when she heard the soft, feminine voice. It was unfamiliar yet at the same time, so familiar. The Queen had taken off her mask as well to reveal her kind ruby eyes. Along with her silvery hair, she resembled the woman Shiro had only seen in pictures at her old house.
My mother.
Nao got up from her throne and walked towards her, extending out a hand to touch Shiro's shoulder lovingly. "Tenko is lost, just like you had been when you first came here. But with the help of your friends, you were able to find this place and defend Tenko once again," the woman motioned for the tearful boy on the stand to come to her.
"M-Mother...!" the boy ran to her and hugged her tight.
"My wonderful children. I'm sorry to leave you both in this world by yourselves... But you are not alone," Nao smiled warmly in the presence of her two children, making both of them tear up with unshed emotions. She took both of their hands and put them together so that Shiro and Tenko were holding each other. "I see you've both made some friends..."
On the stands behind them, Shiro saw that the jurors and all of the people she met on her way here were there. Her friends from U.A. Her important allies on the road to become a hero... On the other side, she saw Tenko's "friends"... The League of Villains...
"But you must never forget each other..."
As the woman said these words, Shiro felt the world around her begin to shift. It was like everyone and everything was disappearing. "No, don't go! Please!"
"Shiragiku, you must not lose your way again and go to Tenko so that you can save him."
Shiro reached out to thin air with a cry, "Please, wait...!"
"Shiro-chan? Shiro-chan?"
The girl scrunched her nose at the voice before prying her eyes open. Hagakure was standing over her with concern lacing her voice. Looking around, she saw that she was on the couch and not some courtroom with strange versions of her friends or Kings and Queens that were her dead parents. And Shimura Tenko was definitely not around.
I was dreaming...
"You fell asleep on the couch!" Hagakure told her before moving away. All of her classmates were still around the living room doing their own thing. Mina and Kaminari were watching something on the T.V. and she saw that it was at the courtroom scene in Alice in Wonderland.
Is that why I had such a strange dream? she wondered. It was bizarre but everything had felt so real. "Sorry, how long did I sleep for?" she asked the invisible girl.
"Hm, maybe an hour? Anyway, guess what Midoriya-kun and Bakugou-kun found while cleaning today!"
Shiro blinked as Hagakure pulled out a plastic bag full of headbands. But it wasn't just any headbands, they were ones shaped like fluffy animal ears. What the... she eyed the one on top with a familiar looking pattern suspiciously. That looks like...
"Hey, Todoroki-kun! This headband matches your hair!" Hagakure exclaimed excitedly before putting the headband on the unsuspecting male who was just walking by the couch. "Aw! Look, Shiro-chan!"
Shiro was too shocked to reply because the scene before her seemed too surreal. Todoroki blinked back at her with his head tilted, the red and white rabbit ears on his head flopped cutely to the side. He was the same Todoroki rabbit she saw in her dream except he didn't wear a red suit and carry a pocket watch.
This is too uncanny...
The male saw the look on her face and he leaned down closer, "What's wrong?" The closeness of their faces made Shiro remember the sudden kiss that he had given her in the dream and she redden slightly.
"N-Nothing..." she replied, looking away and coughed. "You just look really... Adorable with those rabbit ears."
"...I see..." Todoroki mumbled softly as he thought about something.
Should I wear it more often...?
If you couldn't tell already, this is a bonus chapter! I was rewatching a few versions of Alice in Wonderland the other day and it inspired me to add this fun little extra. I found that every character fit really well with the Wonderland characters by design or personality! I might've made Shinsou a little cheekier than usual tho (/u)
There are a few lines that are modified verisons of quotes from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, so credit to the man himself! Hehe. I hope you guys enjoyed this + let me know if it's worth it to have more bonus chapters like this :)
