Pick-Me-Up

Rejection was a harsh, cold pill to swallow, and Winry was having a hard time keeping that metaphorical dose that Ed gave her down. Paninya poured two mugs of coffee and sat beside her friend on her rather musty smelling couch (it's incredible how dusty and eerie an apartment can get when its empty for a month).

"Thanks," Winry smiled, as she reached for the drink, and breathed in the scent of her overly creamed brew.

"No problem, girl," Pan replied, sitting her own mug on the table in front of them. "I can't believe the guy just up and left without so much as a word."

Winry took a swig of her drink, looked off to the carpet and shrugged lightly. "Maybe Al had an early flight back to Xing? I don't know." She sat her mug on the dusty coffee table, and pulled her legs to her chest. "I feel so stupid for feeling so bummed out, but…"

"You liked him," Pan finished, and smiled as she bumped the blonde's shoulder with her fist. "Just because I'm aro doesn't mean I don't get feeling heartbroken, Win."

"I'm sorry," Winry smiled back. "I guess I just feel dumb because the crush is so fresh. I only just realized the other day."

"Better now than letting yourself start to write his name all over your medical notes," Pan joked. "Ed +Win = 5ever!"

Win scoffed and tossed her head back. "I'm not that juvenile!"

Paninya laughed loudly. "Could have fooled me! All I can think of is it turning into a repeat of your obsession with that one boy band reject from middle school."

Winry began to snort as she grabbed Paninya's bicep and playfully began to punch it. "Don't even go there!"

"What was his name again?" she shouted, grabbing her friend's hands and tried to pin her back. "Please, Win Refresh my memory!"

Winry began to blush, as she pushed her knees into Pan's stomach and popped her off of her, and turned to whacking her friend with a throw pillow. "Shut up!"

"All I remember is that he tried to sing you some cheesy love ballad in front of EVERYONE at school for the talent show, and it was so bad!"

"Oh my god, please stop!"

"Didn't he add your name somewhere in it?"

"Shut. UP!"

"Oh my god, you were so embarrassed!"

"AAAAHHH!"

Paninya let out a yelp as Winry knocked her to the ground and jumped on top of her, relentlessly smacking her in the head with two couch pillows.

"ACK! FINE! I GIVE!" she cried out, and the blonde perkily bounced off of her and back to her spot on the couch. "Damn crazy woman."

Winry stuck out her tongue as Paninya slowly sat back down, but leaned her head against her shoulder immediately.

"Thanks, Pan," she sighed. "I needed this."

"Anytime, Win," she replied. "What are best friends for?"

Author's Note: I love Paninya, and I don't feel like aromantics or asexuals get the proper representation they deserve in fics. Therefore, I think she'd be a great character to write as such. It's become a little head canon of mine that she'd be aro-ace. If any ace or aro readers have ideas for Paninya in this story, message me! I'd love to hear what kind of issues or situations you'd like me to put in! I'd like this story to challenge me to write other sexual/romantic orientations, which I'm really lacking at doing.
