Dysphoria

It was happening again.

Garfiel stared at the person the mirror, feeling completely detached to the blank face and bare body staring back. The muscular physique that stood before them once felt so right to be in, but now, as a large hand ran across the smooth and curved legs that were still covered in fishnet, everything felt…wrong.

Garfiel didn't feel like a woman. Sure, they loved feminine things, and who the hell wouldn't? Females were the most beautiful creatures in their eyes, but they did not feel as though they were female.

However, in this very moment, and in many, many more before this, Garfiel did not feel like a man.

"Garfiel dear," Alex called from the hall. "The girls are just about ready for lunch, are you about-"

The mountain of a man walked through the doorway and went quiet. Garfiel hated having Alex see them like this; holding their hands over their chest, and staring blankly at themself.

…Themself. Heaven, that felt so much more fitting. When did Garfiel start referring to themself that way?

Before they noticed, Alex snaked an arm around Garfiel's waist, lightly kissing the nape of their neck as he stared at their reflection.

"Alex dear," Garfiel whispered, lacing their fingers with his. "Would you still love me if I wasn't… a man?"

Alex's vibrant eyes stayed fixated on Garfiel, never wavering, never showing a sign of confusion or irritation. All that shown in that muscled man's expression was complete and utter adoration.

He turned Garfiel away from the mirror, and brought their chin up to meet their gaze with his own.

"I love you," he whispered, with a conviction that caused Garfiel's toes to curl, "and I will always love you. No matter how you're feeling, no matter what body you feel right in... No matter what."

Garfiel felt their eyes grow wetter by the second, and moved to their tiptoes to reach their lover's mouth. If there were ever a moment that they doubted themselves, they thanked whatever god might be that they had such a wonderful man in their life.

The kiss deepened, and Alex growled, sending shiver's down Garfiel's spine.

...The girls would have to wait a little while longer for lunch.

Author's Note: As you can probably guess, from here on out Garfiel will be referred to as "they/them".
