Chapter 14

(Legion ship)

Kara D, Kara K, Barry, Conner, Tess, Alex, Winn, Mon-El, and Imra were gathered in the med-bay of the ship.

"Chameleon was the first Legionnaire to fall," Imra said, standing in front of one of the stasis chambers. "Stricken by the Blight. Six more quickly followed."

"So you put them in stasis to save their lives," Alex said.

"It was Brainy's idea," Mon-El explained. "Keep them on ice until we can find a cure."

"That explains why you hadn't woken them up to help us fight the Worldkillers," Barry pointed out.

"We couldn't risk exposing your timeline to the sickness," Imra explained. "Couldn't risk causing the very thing we were trying so hard to prevent."

"But we did prevent it," Mon-El pointed out. "And with Pestilence defeated in this time, they were never infected. So their vitals are back to normal."

"Good to hear," Kara K said. "Your Legion may not be the ones who were like a family to me, but I'd hate for anything to happen to any version of my 31st century teammates."

"It is imperative that Imra return to the future," Brainy stated. "We don't know that the Titan Alliance will have held given the change to the timeline. Every second we waste could bring us closer to intergalactic war."

"Well, with the help of the Legion, The Flash, Superboy, and Red Tornado, we defeated two Worldkillers," Kara D said, walking up to Mon-El with a smile. "I think we can handle Reign from here on out. Especially with my new cape tricks and the addition of my doppelganger."

She threw a glance at Kara K, who smiled in response.

Mon-El chuckled. "Well, I guess it's back to the future then. Which I do know is a movie title. I just like saying it."

"Yes, honestly, what time traveler doesn't?" Brainy said. "Back... to the future."

Everyone looked at Brainy in amusement.

A few minutes later, the heroes were gathered in the bridge as Mon-El, Imra, and Brainy were preparing for their return to the future.

"The worst moment of my life was watching my sister die," Imra said to Kara D, Kara K, Barry, Conner, and Tess. "But now, because of all of you, I have faith that I'll see her again."

"You will," Barry assured her.

"Mon-El's changed a lot," Kara D said to Imra. "He's become a great man. And I'm certain you have a lot to do with that."

"Thanks, Kara," Imra smiled.

Mon-El approached them. "Hey, uh, I think it's time to buckle in."

"I'll, uh... I'll help Brainy with the preparations," Imra said, as she walked off.

"Take care of yourself, Mon-El," Barry said, as they hugged too. "And you're a great guy too. Don't ever forget that."

"Thanks, Barry," Mon-El replied, before they let each other go. "You and Kara look out for each other and good luck with everything."

"You too," Barry said.

"Have a safe trip back to the future," Conner said, as he extended his hand.

"Will do, Conner," Mon-El said, as he shook Conner's hand.

"I'm really happy I got to see you again," Kara D said to Mon-El. "Witness the man you've become."

"It meant a lot to me to be back here with you and all of our friends," Mon-El said. "To fight alongside all of you."

"I'm really gonna miss your friendship," Kara D said.

"I'm really gonna miss yours," Mon-El said. "But I want you to know that I wish what you and Barry have the best."

"And I wish the same for you and Imra," Kara D said.

Alex and Winn entered the bridge with alarmed expressions.

"Guys, there's been an attack at Lena's penthouse," Alex announced.

"You guys go," Mon-El said to the present day heroes, who all started heading off.

"Man, J'onn's gonna be sad he missed you," Winn said.

"Yeah, tell him it's okay," Mon-El replied. "I'll see him in a thousand years."

"Okay," Winn chuckled, as he headed off as well.

(Lena's penthouse)

Kara D, Kara K, Barry, Conner, Tess, J'onn, Alex, and Winn were examining the pieces of shattered glass from the broken window all over the floor.

"Why would Reign go after Lena?" Kara D wondered.

"Well, Lena did imprison Reign and then, you know, experimented on her for a little bit," Winn pointed out.

"Exacting revenge doesn't seem like Reign's modus operandi," Tess stated.

"I agree," J'onn said.

"She must've been here for something else," Barry said. "Or someone else."

"You're right," Lena said, as she entered her penthouse with James. "Reign wasn't looking for me. She was looking for Ruby."

The heroes tensed, exchanging worried glances.

"Is she..." Alex trailed off, not wanting to imagine anything horrible happening to the little girl.

"Reign won't find her," Lena assured them. "Ruby's safe, I promise."

"And are you okay?" Kara D asked.

"Fine," Lena nodded. She noticed Kara K and gave the unfamiliar Kryptonian a curious glance, right away deducing she was somehow related to Supergirl due to the House of El crest on her chest.

"So Reign is after Ruby and she started with Lena," J'onn pointed out.

"Where else might she look?" Alex asked Lena.

"Sam's mother, Patricia, she's got a farm outside the city," Lena explained.

"Supergirl, Superwoman, Superboy, The Flash, and I will go get Patricia to safety and then wait for Reign to attack," J'onn instructed. "Anything you've discovered while studying Reign that you think we should add to our arsenal?"

"Electricity," Lena suggested. "It was how I was able to wake Reign up and force her back down."

"Ooh, I can retrofit something," Winn said, eagerly.

"I'll help you," Tess told him.

"Alex?" J'onn asked.

"I need to get to Ruby," Alex said to Lena.

"I told you, she's in a safe place," Lena assured her. "And the less people that know about that, the safer the place will be."

"I understand that, but she's probably afraid," Alex pointed out. "Lena, please, let me just get to her just in case."

"Where Ruby is, Reign will never find her," Lena said. "It's not on any maps. You can't see it from space. Nobody knows about it except for me and my brother."

"And how does Lex know about it?" Kara D asked, pointedly.

"Because it's his mansion," Lena answered.

As the heroes left the penthouse, Tess stopped and turned to Lena. "Lena, I just want you to know that I completely understand the decisions you've made while only trying to help your friend Sam. I honestly don't think there's anything that I, or many other people for that matter, would've done differently in your situation. You were only doing what you thought was best."

"Thank you for understanding," Lena said, appreciatively. "That means a lot coming from an android."

"Well, I'm not just any android," Tess pointed out.

"I see that," Lena agreed.

"I'll see you around, Lena," Tess said, before leaving.

(Elsewhere)

Alex pulled up on her motorcycle next to a keypad as Barry stopped behind her. She pressed a few numbers on the keypad and, a moment later, a huge mansion came into view in the middle of the grassy field where it had been camouflaged. She rode her motorcycle the rest of the way to the mansion, while Barry followed her at a speed that was only slightly above that of the most athletic human.

(Patricia Arias' house)

Kara D, Kara K, Conner, and J'onn walked up to the door and Kara D knocked on it. J'onn was carrying a duffle bag.

"Patricia Arias, we need to talk to you," Kara D said.

As there was no reply, she, Kara K, Conner, and J'onn exchanged glances.

"Let's go," J'onn instructed, before he opened the door. He, Kara D, Kara K, and Conner entered the house. "Mrs. Arias?"

"Francis Pierce, I told you that the next time I caught you in my house looking for pills, I was gonna put a hole through your thieving hand!" a woman in her sixties, Patricia Arias, shouted angrily. She rushed into the living room pointing a shotgun. Noticing Kara D, Kara K, Conner, and J'onn, she lowered her weapon. "Supergirl..."

"We didn't mean to startle you, Mrs. Arias," Conner said, apologetically.

Kara D stepped forward and glanced back at J'onn. "This is John Jones from the FBI."

J'onn held up his badge, showing it to Patricia. "We have reason to believe that Reign is on her way here."

"Which means it's not safe for you here," Kara K added.

"We need to get you out of this house," Kara D said to Patricia.

Patricia took a breath as sadness and realization dawned on her. "She's her, isn't she? My Sam is Reign."

Kara D frowned in surprise. "How do you know?"

She, Kara K, Conner, and J'onn followed Patricia into Sam's childhood bedroom.

"I, uh... I never told her where she was from," Patricia said, uncomfortably. "I... I just wanted her to be normal, and then when she was ten, she started doodling all over her books. It was like something inside her just needed to get out... and I punished her for it. I grounded her, and I tore up the pages." She walked to the wall and ripped apart the wallpaper, revealing Reign's Kryptonian insignia drawn on the bare wall underneath. "So she drew it on the wall to spite me. When I saw the same mark all over the news, I knew."

Kara D nodded in understanding as she realized how painful this must've been for Patricia.

Sighing, Patricia picked up a framed photo of Sam from when she was a little girl. "All I ever wanted to do was to protect her. That's all I ever wanted."

Kara K and Conner also had understanding looks on their faces as they were reminded of Clark's upbringing and how Jonathan and Martha had often been overprotective of him.

Patricia turned to them again. "When we bury things... And I should've known this, but... When we bury things, they come at you even harder."

"What Sam's become has nothing to do with the way she was raised," Kara D pointed out.

"I was an awful mother," Patricia admitted in shame, tears filling her eyes. "I kicked her out. I've never even met my granddaughter."

J'onn cleared his throat. "We need to get you out of here before she comes."

"No, if she's coming here, I wanna be here when she does," Patricia insisted. "I kicked her out when I should've helped her. I am not gonna turn away from her now."

J'onn turned to Kara D, Kara K, and Conner, who all nodded reluctantly.

(Lex Luthor's mansion)

"Not much further," Mrs. Queller said to Alex and Barry, who was now in his regular clothes, as she was taking them to where Ruby Arias was.

"We're good, Mrs. Queller," Barry assured her.

"Oh, of course you are, Mr. Allen," Mrs. Queller chuckled. "I mean, you and Agent Danvers are in much better shape than me. You don't have these knees I have to contend with. Do you know, it took me a week to get used to the distances in this place. The step count from wing to wing, five thousand. Slightly bigger than my townhouse."

"Well, I'm in a studio, so..." Alex said.

"And the creepy decor," Mrs. Queller said, before she, Alex, and Barry stopped next to a portrait of Lillian Luthor on the wall as Barry tensed while Alex glared at the painting. "Ugh, this one. Worse than the Mona Lisa. Her eyes follow you everywhere. Not in a good way."

"Whoa, we're lucky this place isn't haunted," Barry laughed nervously as Mrs. Queller and Alex made nervous laughter as well.

"Indeed we are," Mrs. Queller agreed. "But, you know, if you can overlook some of the furnishings and the fact that the owner was a serial killer. Luckily, we haven't found a body yet. And the amenities are really quite fantastic."

She, Alex, and Barry approached Ruby, who was seated at the table eating breakfast and wearing headphones as she was watching something on her tablet.

"Ruby doll, look who's come to pay you a visit," Mrs. Queller gushed.

Ruby took off her headphones and rushed towards Alex. "Aunt Alex."

"Hi," Alex said with a smile, as she and Ruby embraced. "Oh, I'm so glad you're okay."

They let each other go and Ruby noticed Barry. "I remember you. You were at the Christmas party."

"That's right," Barry nodded, with a smile.

"Oh, Ruby, this is mine and my sister's friend Barry," Alex introduced him.

"Barry Allen," Barry said to Ruby.

"Is my mom with you guys?" Ruby asked them.

"No, she's still sick," Alex said.

"What's wrong with her?" Ruby asked, concerned. "She won't tell me, and Lena won't tell me. Do you guys know?"

"No, we don't," Alex answered.

"I haven't heard from her in days, and on the news, there are stories about the Pestilence outbreak," Ruby said, worriedly. "Is that what this is? Was my mom infected?

"No, Ruby, no," Alex assured her.

"I'm twelve years old, Alex, I can handle anything," Ruby pleaded. "Just tell me what it is."

Barry placed a comforting hand on Ruby's shoulder. "Look, Ruby, it's a little complicated and... Honestly, even we're not sure if we understand what's happened to your mom. But please, trust me when I say that we're doing everything we can to help her."

"Now, why don't you take us on a tour of this mausoleum?" Alex said to Ruby, as they and Barry headed out of the room. "I heard there is an indoor pool?"

(Evening, Patricia Arias' house)

"So you were much younger than I was when Krypton exploded and you were sent to Earth," Kara K said, as she and Kara D were standing in the kitchen.

"Yeah, I was thirteen," Kara D nodded.

"You seem to have had a nice life here on Earth," Kara K said. "You and your sister seem very close for one thing."

"Yeah, Alex is great," Kara D said, with a smile. "While we did get off to a rocky start when I was first taken in by the Danvers, it got to a point where she's not just my adoptive sister, she's also my best friend. I couldn't have asked for a better sister."

"I'm really happy for you," Kara K said, also smiling.

Kara D took out her phone and showed Kara K a picture of herself and Alex when they were teenagers with Eliza and Jeremiah. "This is my family. Me, Alex, and my adoptive parents Jeremiah and Eliza."

Kara K took a look at the picture for a moment and her eyes widened in shock upon noticing Eliza. "The woman in this picture is your adoptive mother?"

"Yeah, why?" Kara D asked.

"She looks so much like my Aunt Lara," Kara K said in disbelief.

Kara D frowned. "Aunt Lara? As in Kal's mother?"

"I could never forget what she looked like," Kara K nodded. "Aunt Lara was like a mother to me." She then gave Kara D a strange look. "Are you sure this isn't your universe's version of her?"

Kara D shook her head. "My version of Aunt Lara looked nothing like Eliza. I wonder why, for some weird reason, quite a few people on your Earth randomly look like people on this one." Chuckling, she added, "Rao forbid my Kal ever meets your Lois, who is actually married to your Kal while looking a lot like my Kal's aunt or my mom."

"Not to mention me looking like one of your opponents," Kara K said. "Speaking of, being around me doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, does it?"

"No, of course not," Kara D answered. "I mean, if I could separate J'onn from Hank Henshaw, the man whose human form J'onn uses for reasons I don't feel like getting into, I could definitely do the same with you and Indigo."

J'onn and Conner entered the kitchen. "Everything is set," the former said.

"All we have to do now is wait for you-know-who to show up," Conner said.

"Patricia's in the safe room," Kara D said. "She said we can grab anything out of the fridge if we want. She said there's pudding."

"No thanks," J'onn said, as he and Kara D chuckled.

"Mon-El and everyone missed you this morning," she told him.

"Uh, yeah, I'm sorry about that," J'onn apologized. "I was, uh, dealing with my father."

"How is he doing?" Conner asked, with concern.

"Since the incident at the D.E.O., he has become increasingly depressed," J'onn explained. "Irritable if I push him."

"Can Alex prescribe something?" Kara D asked.

"I've been giving him Martian medicine, which helps," J'onn said. "But the reality is, with the psychic dampener on, there isn't really much he can do. Yeah, I know I needed to protect him, protect all of us, but... I still wish there was some way I could make him feel useful. There are moments when he doesn't seem to remember who I am. Thinks I'm someone from his past."

"I'm sorry, J'onn," Kara D apologized, with sympathy.

"It's funny how his past memories are so clear to him, yet his present thoughts are so chaotic," J'onn pointed out.

"Hey," Kara D said, patting J'onn on the shoulder lightly.

Suddenly, a rustling sound got their attention as Kara D, Kara K, J'onn, and Conner turned to the window and saw the flowers next to it wither rapidly.

"Pestilence," J'onn said in shock.

"That's impossible," Conner gasped in horror. "I thought she was dead."

Reign was approaching Patricia's house as a powerful wind blew around her and leaves fell off the trees as they withered. Once she arrived at the door, she opened it and entered the house.

"Patricia," Reign called out tauntingly, before switching her voice to Sam's. "Are you home?"

She glanced around the house before hearing a noise upstairs. She looked up and activated her x-ray vision, seeing the shapes of two figures hiding on the other side of the wall. She went up the stairs and entered her childhood bedroom.

"Ruby?" Reign called out, again in Sam's voice as she sauntered through the room. "Sweetheart, it's Mommy. I know you're scared. But I've come back for you." She turned to the closet and approached it. "Did you miss me?" She opened the closet door, only to find Kara D and Kara K inside it as Kara D was holding some kind of large gun.

"So much," Kara D smirked, before firing the gun.

Electric bolas shot out of the gun and wrapped themselves around Reign, restraining her as she was sent flying back and crashing out of the house through the window. Reign landed outside on the grass as J'onn phased out of the house and Kara D, Kara K, and Conner descended next to him.

Reign leapt into the air as she broke free from her electric restraints and landed her feet back on the ground before unleashing her sonic scream at the heroes.

J'onn, Kara D, Kara K, and Conner covered their eyes in pain as the blast struck them. Recovering before the others, Kara K charged at Reign, knocking the Worldkiller many feet back with a powerful punch. Reign got back up as Kara K charged at her again. Reign unleashed her sonic scream, but Kara K sped out of the way to avoid it this time. Suddenly appearing behind Reign, Kara K punched her in the back of the head, sending Reign flying many feet again. She flew towards Reign once more, picked her up, and threw her straight up into the air. She then flew up above Reign and kicked her, sending the Worldkiller crashing back on the ground.

Kara D and Conner flew at Reign, who tried to get back up, only for Kara K to descend behind Reign and wrap one arm firmly around the Worldkiller's neck. Kara D and Conner simultaneously slammed their fists in either side of Reign's face and then Kara D punched her in the abdomen at the same time Conner delivered another punch to Reign's face.

Unable to free herself from Kara K's grip with physical strength, Reign unleashed a sound attack that paralyzed Kara D and Conner while merely stunning Kara K. This was enough to loosen Kara K's grip around her neck as Reign elbowed the former in the chest, freeing herself.

"Sam!" Patricia Arias called out, as she came out of the house.

Kara K, Kara D, Conner, and J'onn tensed, concerned for Patricia's well-being but decided not to engage to see if she could reach the human part of Reign.

"Sam, I know you're in there," Patricia pleaded, as she approached Reign. "I know my daughter's in there. And I need her to understand, you are not this monster." She took off her glasses, her eyes filled with tears. "You are kind and good. You are everything that I wasn't. You're not this. Honey, if you're listening, if you can hear me, I need you to rise up! Not for me, not for me, Sam." She held up a framed photo of Sam and Ruby and showed it to Reign. "This is for Ruby. For your daughter."

Reign stared at the photo blankly before turning to Patricia with a glare. "What did you do for your daughter?"

Kara K sped towards Reign at full speed, grabbing the Worldkiller's arm just as she was about to drive her Pestilence claws into Patricia's abdomen. Kara K flung Reign into the air with great force, sending her hurtling high up towards the night sky.

"Are you okay, ma'am?" Kara K asked Patricia.

"I'm fine," Patricia nodded.

"We're doing everything we can to save your daughter and we're not gonna stop until Reign is defeated," Kara D promised.

"I really appreciate that," Patricia said.

"In the meantime, Mrs. Arias, we need you to come with us," J'onn added. "This place isn't safe."

(Lex Luthor's mansion)

"Oh, thank God," Alex said with relief, as she was on the phone with Kara D, while Barry was standing next to her. "Um, yeah. No, no, thanks for calling."

Alex hung the phone up as Ruby entered the room.

"What's going on?" Ruby asked. "Was that about my mom?"

"Uh, no," Alex denied. "No, no, it was no one. Hey, why don't we go watch a movie? Mrs. Queller told me that they have Young Frankenstein, which just so happens to be one of my all-time favorite movies."

"Stop lying to me!" Ruby begged in exasperation.

"Ruby, I'm not lying, okay?" Alex said. "That call wasn't even about your mom. She's fine. So, let's watch a movie. Right, I'm gonna go talk to Mrs. Queller and she'll hook us up with popcorn and ice-cold soda, and Gene Wilder. I mean, come on, this is gonna be amazing. You just hang tight. I'll be right back."

She and Barry left the room, while Ruby turned to the phone that Alex left on the coffee table.

(Later, D.E.O.)

"Lena," Kara D said, as she, with Kara K and Conner behind her, walked up to the woman in question, who had entered with a briefcase.

"Supergirl, Superboy, I have something for you," Lena said. "But don't be alarmed. It's in a lead-lined case."

"Is that kryptonite?" Kara D asked, staring at the briefcase warily.

"To help you fight Reign," Lena explained.

"Well, if it means stopping Reign, I'll be willing to use kryptonite for that reason," Kara K said, to Lena's relief.

"Same here," Conner agreed. "Whatever it takes to end Reign once and for all."

Kara D felt some disgust over Lena lying to her face about having more kryptonite, but set aside her personal feelings as she remembered her conversation with Barry the other day and due to the fact that even Kara K and Conner both seemed to be okay with using the lethal substance to stop their enemy.

"Thank you, Lena," Kara D said, as she accepted the briefcase from her.

"Thank me by stopping Reign and getting Sam back," Lena said, and Kara D nodded.

"We will," Conner promised.

(Lex Luthor's mansion)

"All right, I think we finally got the projector working," Alex said, as she and Barry returned to the room where Ruby was sitting in the chair. "You ready?"

Ruby nodded quietly, as Alex and Barry noticed how nervous she looked.

"You good, Ruby?" Barry asked her.

"Yeah," Ruby answered.

Barry and Alex then noticed the latter's phone on the table and Alex picked it up.

"Ruby," Alex said in the tone of a mother scolding her child.

Barry sighed. "Please tell us you didn't just try to call your mom."

Ruby squirmed, looking as if she'd just been caught with her hand in a cookie jar.

Suddenly, the alarm started blaring throughout the mansion.

"What is that?" Ruby asked, worriedly.

"That's Reign," Alex realized.

"Get downstairs now!" Barry ordered, as he, Alex, and Ruby quickly headed off.

As the alarm continued blaring, Reign was scouring the mansion with her x-ray vision before she heard footsteps beneath the floor and stopped for a moment. She spun around like a tornado, drilling her way through the floor and into the level below.

She descended into some kind of bunker and spotted Barry, Alex, and Ruby running towards a reinforced steel door.

Barry grabbed both Alex and Ruby. "Ruby, please don't tell anyone about this." He phased the three of them through the door and into the room on the other side, avoiding Reign's heat vision in the process as the beam hit the door instead.

"All right, come on," Barry said, as he sped Ruby under a table next to a bookshelf. "Stay right here, okay? And keep your eyes closed."

Barry sped over to Alex, who was pointing her gun at the door. He spun around rapidly and was in his Flash suit a moment later.

Meanwhile, as Reign headed along the bunker's corridor, several machine guns appeared out of the walls and rapidly fired hundreds of bullets at her. All the bullets bounced off of her as she was completely unaffected. She continued on her way and flames shot out of the wall, engulfing Reign without affecting her in any way. She continued on her way again and, this time, she was attacked by a blast of liquid nitrogen, freezing her body up to her shoulders.

Reign moved around and broke free from the ice, shattering it into pieces. She continued the rest of the way to the steel door. She punched the door, putting a dent in it. She punched the door again, putting another dent in it. On the third punch, the door flew off its hinges and Reign saw Alex, who was pointing a gun at her, and The Flash standing on the other side.

As Reign stalked towards them, a turret gun came down from the ceiling and fired a blast of yellow energy at her, knocking Reign back against the wall. Alex fired her own gun, shooting blasts of red sunlight energy at Reign, while Barry fired a blast of lighting at her. The turret then unleashed a round of yellow blasts as Reign sped out of the way.

Ruby crawled from under the table as she took a look at what was going on.

Reign unleashed her sonic scream as Barry vibrated to avoid the blast while Alex and Ruby covered their ears. As the turret above Alex came loose and fell down, Barry pushed her out of the way before the weapon could land on her. As Reign stalked towards where Ruby was hiding, Barry sped in front of Reign, blocking her path.

"You're not getting near her!" Barry declared.

"You would stop me?" Reign challenged.

"Not just me," Barry said, as he noticed Kara K, Kara D, Conner, J'onn, and Tess all flying into the room.

Kara K, Kara D, and Conner slammed triple fists into Reign's back, sending her flying across the room. Kara K and Kara D flew over to Reign, picked her up by each arm, and flung her towards J'onn, who wasted no time opening the briefcase and exposing her to the chunk of kryptonite inside. Reign groaned from the intense pain as she glared at J'onn and smacked the briefcase of kryptonite out of his hand. She was about to attack J'onn with her Pestilence claws when Kara K pulled Reign's arm back and flung her up to the ceiling, damaging it. As Reign came back down, Kara K sent her flying across the room again with a powerful punch. Reign crash-landed on a glass case holding a portrait, shattering the glass before she fell to the floor, her mask falling off her face.

As Reign, now unmasked, tried to get back up, she was tackled back to the floor by Kara K, who punched her face three times, bruising it. Reign punched Kara K in the chest and threw another punch, but Kara K caught Reign's fist and clenched it as Reign grunted in both pain and anger.

"You're a much more worthy opponent than Supergirl and all of her other friends," Reign commented.

"Thanks for the compliment," Kara K quipped, as she flew up into the air with Reign and threw Reign back on the floor hard, dazing the Worldkiller before she got back up again.

While Kara D, Conner, J'onn, and Tess helped Kara K against Reign, Barry picked up the chunk of kryptonite that was lying on the floor next to the briefcase. He held the kryptonite in the palm of one hand and placed his other hand on top of the mineral. He then vibrated the hand that was on top, transforming the chunk of kryptonite into many small pieces. He put the pieces of kryptonite inside the turret, picked up the weapon, and aimed it at where the others were engaging Reign, who was struggling to keep up against the combined might of three Kryptonians, a Martian, and a Red Tornado.

"I need a clear shot!" Barry ordered.

In response, Kara K got behind Reign and wrapped her arms around her from behind, while Kara D and Conner each grabbed one of Reign's arms as they restrained her.

"Now, Flash!" Kara D exclaimed.

Barry fired the turret, the round of green blasts hitting Reign in her chest as she was weakened. Kara K, Kara D, and Conner released Reign, who then collapsed to her knees groaning from the pain and weakness before falling down on her back.

The heroes exchanged relieved glances, finally having incapacitated Reign.

Kara D turned to her counterpart. "I have to say, you really are a badass. I fight Reign for the first time, she pummels me into a coma. You fight Reign twice and both times she barely lays a finger on you."

"What can I say? I guess I'm one of the lucky Kryptonians out there," Kara K said.

"We really appreciate your help," J'onn said.

"Anytime," Kara K said.

Alex was comforting Ruby near the bookcase as the latter was sobbing after having gotten a look at Reign's face and learned that the Worldkiller was actually her mother.

(L-Corp)

Reign was restrained to the gurney with kryptonite cuffs in Lena's lab as Kara D, Kara K, Barry, Conner, and Tess were watching over her.

"Thank you for your help," Kara D said to Lena. "Without your kryptonite, it would've been a lot harder to subdue her."

"You're welcome," Lena smiled. "If you all will excuse me, I'm gonna go work on a cure."

"Actually, there might be a quicker way we can split Sam from Reign," Conner suggested, as the other heroes and Lena turned to him. "And I think we have a way to get rid of Reign for good too. But I need to go back to my Earth and get them."

Lena frowned. "Your Earth?"

"Long story short, I'm a Supergirl from another universe, although I go by Superwoman," Kara K clarified. "Superboy, Red Tornado, and myself are from what we call Earth-21."

Lena stared at Kara K, Conner, and Tess with an intrigued look. "So the Multiverse is more than just a theory."

"Just like aliens, meta-humans, and time travel," Barry nodded. "But you seem to be taking this better than most people."

"Honestly, after all I've witnessed, very little surprises me anymore," Lena said.

"What is it that you need to get from your Earth?" Kara D asked Conner.

"Black kryptonite," Conner answered.

Kara D frowned. "Black kryptonite?"

"It's a variation of kryptonite that literally split Kryptonians, as well as, in some cases, humans and other species, into two beings, one representing the lighter aspects of the person's personality and the darker aspects for the other," Tess explained.

"So it's basically a classic case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," Barry pointed out.

"More or less," Tess nodded.

"That's a new one," Kara D said. "I guess Kal and I should be grateful we never encountered that version of kryptonite, if it even exists here. The last thing we want is to literally fight evil versions of ourselves."

"That's exactly what Clark had to do once after black k temporarily split him into two Supermen, one who was himself and the other uninhibited," Conner recalled. "It was also used to split Doomsday and his human side Davis Bloome into two separate beings. We can do the same to Sam and Reign since they're also Kryptonian. And once Sam is separated, we can use the Phantom Zone crystal to send Reign in there and Sam could live the rest of her life Reign-free."

"Sounds like a plan," Lena said.

"A plan very familiar, that is," Tess said in a wary tone.

"I know what you're thinking, Tess, but Davis and Sam are two different people, and Doomsday was a much, much worse adversary than Reign," Conner pointed out. "I'm willing to give this plan a chance."

"Wait, did something horrible involving the use of this black kryptonite happen before?" Kara D asked.

"After black kryptonite was once used to separate Davis Bloome from his beastly counterpart Doomsday, that didn't stop Davis from murdering someone in a jealous rage," Tess explained. "To this day, it remains unclear whether Davis was completely himself when he did the deed or if the split somehow damaged his mental stability after years of carrying a Kryptonian beast inside of him."

"The last thing we need is Reign's human alter-ego retaining any of her Kryptonian counterpart's aggressive tendencies," Kara K said.

"Not to mention the fact that she has a twelve-year-old daughter," Tess added.

"Sam would gladly give up her life before she ever hurts Ruby," Lena snapped, coming to her friend's defense. "I know Sam better than any of you in this room and she is a good person who is nothing like Reign. If there is something out there that could free Sam from Reign permanently, I think it's a risk worth taking."

"I agree with Lena," Barry said. "There are always risks in situations like this. Sometimes, to get things done, you have to be willing to make the tough choices."

"Given that Reign, as horrible as she is, isn't exactly a rage-filled, ferocious killing machine like Doomsday, I have high hopes that what happened to Davis won't happen to Sam," Conner said. "But since using black kryptonite is my idea, if anything goes south, it will be on me. I'll take responsibility if something terrible happens."

"I'm holding you to that, Kon-El," Kara K smirked.

Kara D turned to Lena. "In case Superboy's plan doesn't go as planned, we still need you to work on your cure as a possible plan B."

"Of course," Lena nodded, before heading off to get to work.

In this, Mon-El returned directly to the future with Imra and Brainy. The only reason he stayed behind in canon is because, according to Brainy, the odds of Supergirl and her team defeating Reign without Mon-El's help was fifty-one percent. Here, however, with the additions of Barry, Conner, Tess, and Kara K, the Legion would've realized that Mon-El was not needed at all.
