Harry was walking out of McGonagall's office having just accepted the position of Deputy Headmaster when there was a bright flash and Harry landed right outside a very similar door, except it said, "Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster." Then, a letter fell from the ceiling.

Dear Harry,

I know you know my sisters, Mal and Lia, my name is Malachite. I brought you back in time to teach the DADA in this time because Dumbledore couldn't find anyone to teach and the other option was Umbridge. You can still talk with Lily through your mind and when the year is over, you will be taken back to your time and only 10 days will have passed. I have let Ginny know of this development. I'll let you learn what year you are in yourself. However, you will need a new name. No one is allowed to know you are from the future. You can think of a new name yourself. However, because I haven't been fully trained, I messed up a bit. You now look to be 18. Remember this. I have also included papers for the job.

Yours truly,

Prince Malachite Faery of Magia, Fairies, Auroria and the Isle of the Lost

Harry was shocked but changed his appearance to that of a light brown haired, blue eyed person with a squarer face, and then knocked on the door. Inside was a much younger McGonagall and Dumbledore. "Hello, I'm here to apply for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position." Harry introduced. He looked around the room and saw a calendar labeled, 'August 20, 1977,' so his parent's seventh year. Two years after Snape called Lily that word. He had gone back 28 years.

"See Minerva! I told you someone would come!" Dumbledore said, smiling.

"I never doubted you Albus." McGonagall smiled back.

"And you are?" Dumbledore asked.

"Harry Daniel Patterson." Harry introduced.

"I'll give you two some privacy." McGonagall went to leave.

"No, Minerva, stay. Well, Mr. Patterson, how can I be sure you're not a supporter of Voldemort." McGonagall flinched but Harry didn't even notice. He was rolling up his sleeve to reveal a Dark Mark free arm. "Very well, what are your qualifications? Defense Against the Dark Arts is a subject that I have many restrictions for the teacher in these trying times."

"Would you like to see yourself?" Harry suggested.

"What?" Dumbledore was confused.

"A duel on the Quidditch pitch so that nothing happens to the castle." Harry suggested.

Dumbledore smiled and agreed. The trio walked to the Quidditch field. "Any curse restrictions?" Dumbledore asked.

"No unforgivables," Harry told him. "I've had enough of those for one lifetime." The headmaster seemed to be expecting more, but no more restrictions were given.

Dumbledore nodded and took up the dueling stance. Harry followed, but threw his wand aside. Dumbledore attacked first, silently casting a stunning spell which Harry sidestepped before pointing and a beam came from his finger which knocked Dumbledore down. Dumbledore got back up to see Harry standing over him and about to stun him. He used his wand to grab a torch from one of the stands and flung it at Harry who promptly turned it into a fiery whip and used it to attack. Dumbledore cut it in half and Harry put two fingers together and turned them upwards. Dumbledore was suddenly hung by his legs and suspended in the air. There was a white flash in front of Dumbledore's wand and then Harry walked close and stunned him before bringing him back down. McGonagall unstunned him.

"Amazing," Dumbledore commended as Harry retrieved his wand. "I have never been beaten in a duel. I just have one more question about qualifications, do you have experience with Dark Magic and creatures?"

"All too much." Harry handed over a paper.

"I have a few questions. Could we go back to my office to discuss?"

"Certainly." Harry agreed. Once back in the round room, Harry said, "Shoot."

"How old are you?"

"18."

"You are a little young to be teaching." Dumbledore was skeptical. "Some of the older 7th years are your age."

"Well, I don't think age matters as much as experience does.

"Quite right. What experience do you have?" In response, Harry pointed to the paper. Dumbledore read, "Past experience is a troll, three headed dog, acromantula, basilisk, dementors, werewolf, bogarts, red caps, hinkypunks, dragon, merpeople, death eaters, a giant, thestrals, more death eaters, inferi, death eaters again, snake lady, fiery serpent, and death eaters several more times." Dumbledore was surprised at the amount of death eaters. "I must say, this is the most impressive resume I've ever seen. What school did you go to?"

"Homeschooled by my muggle-born mother and my half-blood father."

"Why do you have so much experience with dark magic?"

"My parents were aurors. Constantly targeted. They always made sure I knew my stuff, but I would get attacked when they did too."

"Were aurors?"

"They were killed when I was 10."

"My condolences."

"Thank you."

"Is there anything else you wish to say?"

"No"

"Well then, Mr. Patterson, or may I call you Harry?"

"Yes. You may." Harry confirmed.

"Then call me Albus, Harry, you've got the job. Here's your schedule for classes and patrolling the corridors. We don't have a fixed curriculum, so that will be up to you. But I would like to request that you teach the fifth, sixth and seventh years about the unforgivables. Just how to escape them, not how to cast them." Harry nodded, understanding. "Minerva, please take him to the classroom and show him around."

"Okay Albus." McGonagall nodded and left the room. Before Harry could follow, Fawkes flew over and grabbed Harry's wand.

"Oh Fawkes, I know," Harry whispered, "but I do need my wand." Fawkes gave it back and Harry left Dumbledore in utter confusion.

McGonagall showed him to classroom 3C. "You're office is up there," she pointed up the stairs, "and your bedroom is attached to it."

"Thank you Professor McGonagall." Harry thanked.

"Minerva, please. We're colleagues now." McGonagall insisted.

"Thank you Minerva." Harry corrected with a smile. He went up, put his teacher robes into a drawer, the picture of his parents, him and Lily on the nightstand before going to write a curriculum. Over the next 11 days until September 1, Harry finished his curriculum, but every other professor didn't arrive until noon on September 1, so Harry didn't meet them until then.

Just before the feast on the first day, Harry walked in and Dumbledore greeted him. "Ah, welcome Harry. Everyone, this is Professor Harry Patterson, our new DADA teacher." Everyone started introducing themselves.

"Aurora Sinistra, Astronomy."

"Bathsheda Babbling, Study of Ancient Runes."

"Filius Flitwick, Charms."

"Horace Slughorn, Potions."

"Pomona Sprout, Herbology."

"Quirinus Quirrell, Muggle Studies." Harry slightly cringed as he shook hands.

"Rolanda Hooch, Flying."

"Gideon Vablatsky, Divination."

"Septima Vector, Arithmancy."

"Silvanus Kettleburn, Care of Magical Creatures."

"Rubeus Hagrid, Gamekeeper." Harry had to resist hugging the large man.

"And this," Dumbledore introduced, "is our caretaker Argus Filch."

"Hello everyone." Harry smiled.

Just then, the returning students came through the doors and sat down. A while later, McGonagall brought the first years in. Harry watched the first years get sorted and he found the marauders.

"Hey, do you think that that is the new professor?" James asked his friends, pointing to Harry.

"No James, it's just some random person that is new, sitting at the staff table, without Professor Hoffman there." Sirius rolled his eyes.

"I get it Padfoot." James playfully slapped him. "But, I mean, come on, doesn't he look a little, well, young, to be a professor?" The others nodded in agreement.

McGonagall walked in with the seat and the hat and put them down. The hat started singing,

"A long, long, time ago, in fact,

A thousand years or more

Four wizards founded this here school

And here they'd teach their lore.

These wizards founded houses too

For me to put you in.

Gryffindor and Ravenclaw

Hufflepuff and Slytherin.

Bold Gryffindor will never have

Accepted any knave

Only those with chivalry

And who are always brave.

Then there was good Ravenclaw

Who ruled over the wise.

She wanted only clever students

Who would always try.

Sweet Hufflepuff wanted those

Who would always help the others

Loyal, true and working hard,

They'd treat their friends like brothers.

Slytherin had a yen

For those of great ambition

Prove your mind is sharp and cunning

To be admitted to their kin

So put me on, don't give a shout

And don't creep like a mouse

I'll look inside your head at once

And then you'll know your house.

Gryfindor got 4 boys and 3 girls. Ravenclaw got 5 boys and 2 girls. Hufflepuff earned 3 boys and 3 girls and Slytherin gained 6 boys and 3 girls.

Dumbledore stood up. "Welcome, or welcome back, to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! A few start of term notices to give out. First, as always, the Forbidden Forest, as implied by the name, is forbidden to all students." Dumbledore's eyes flicked to the Marauders and when Harry saw them, his eyes lit up a bit. No one noticed.

"Our new Head Boy and Girl are Lily Evans and James Potter." Lily and James stood up and James pulled a silly face before sitting back down. "Now, I'm sure we all miss Professor Hoffman, whom we lost this summer. However, I am pleased to announce a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Patterson!" Harry stood up. The girls started staring at him with wide eyes, some even pretended to faint. Just then, fireworks streamed from around the Slytherin table towards Harry, but not before people saw James and Sirius point their wands at Harry. In a millisecond, Harry had whipped out his wand and with a flick of his wrist, the fireworks froze and then vanished.

McGonagall marched over to the two of them. "Potter, Black, I assume this is your doing?"

"Why would you think that?" James asked, innocently.

"Honestly Potter, you are Head Boy, you should be setting a good example. Both of you have detention. See me in my office tomorrow to find out what you'll be doing." They both nodded and sat back down.

After everyone had eaten, they four boys were discussing how Harry deflected the spell. "It's a shield charm." Harry said, appearing behind them.

"Where'd you learn it?" Remus asked.

"I made it. I have had a lot of people attempt to attack me physically, thinking I would expect magic, so I needed a defense." Harry said. "Now, if I'm not mistaken, you four should be headed up to the Gryffindor Tower." They all smiled sheepishly and went off. Harry went over to McGonagall, "So Minerva, who were they?"

"The four troublemakers. They are rarely out of detention. The one with glasses was James Potter, the one without but that also has black hair was Sirius Black, the light brown haired one was Peter Pettigrew and the final one is Remus Lupin. You have them in your first class on Tuesday. Be on the lookout for pranks."

"I will." Harry reassured her. Then, under his breath added, "Can't be any worse than Fred and George."
