Rolf never makes an appearance in the books, and I think he deserves a story. This is after the war. The golden trio and others are redoing their 7th year, so they are in the same year as Luna.

Luna was sitting below a tree with her friends when a boy fell out of it. They were all quite jumpy after the war, so they all pulled out their wands.

"Woah, woah, woah." The boy said. He had dirty blonde hair and a smattering of freckles on his face. His features were vaguely familiar, and in Luna's opinion very handsome. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

"Sorry." Harry said "What were you doing in that tree?"

"Looking for bowtruckles. I heard that they are going to cut down this tree, and plan to relocate them." The boy said.

"Where are you going to relocate them to?" Luna piped up

"There is a little island in the great lake that my grandfather told me about." He said "It has lots of bowtruckles, and a good habitat. I'm not having much luck getting them to move though."

"If you put mango juice on a small branch they'll climb right on." She offered

"Really?" He asked

"Yep. I've actually got some right here." Luna pulled out a small canteen full of mango juice and offered it to him. He snapped a branch from a nearby tree and put the juice on it. He stuck the branch into the tree, and the bowtruckles climbed right on to it.

"How'd you know that?" He asked in awe

"I like magical creatures." Luna said simply

"I've got to get these to the island before the jump off. You can come if you want."

"I'd love to" She said happily

He led her around the lake, to a marshy area with a makeshift dock.

"Revelare" He muttered, and a small red row boat appeared. Luna supposed that he had hidden it with magic. He motioned for her to get in, then tapped the boat with his wand. They glided across the lake, until they came to a small island. It had three trees of varying sizes.

"Here we are!" The boy got out of the boat carefully, and Luna followed him. She did a spell to tie up the boat. They began to gently push the bowtruckles off of the sticky branch. One latched itself on to Luna and wouldn't let go.

"You'll probably just have to let him stay there. Bowtruckles have attachment issues." He said "But you probably already know that."

"I'm going to call him Ashton. Ash for short." She let Ashton climb into her pocket, then sat down on the edge of the island, peeled off her shoes, and stuck her feet in.

"And what do I call you?"

"I suppose there are lots of things you could call me, but I wouldn't answer to them" Luna mused "Luna. Luna Lovegood."

"Lovegood? Like The Quibbler?"

"Yes. Very much like that. My father's the editor."

"I love The Quibbler. My family spent a while looking for Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. Unfortunately, they aren't real, but Blibbering Humdingers, Wrackspurts and Nargles are. No other news source believes that, but I've seen them with my very own eyes." The boy said excitedly. "I'm Rolf. Rolf Scamander."

"Really? That's a shame. About the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks, not your name." Luna mused "Why haven't I seen you around before?"

"My family is kind of all over the place." Rolf said "We travel a lot, documenting magical creatures, so I've mostly been homeschooled. I did spend two years at Ilvermorny though. We came back to Britain to fight in the war, and decided to stay for a while, to help with rebuilding, and to that I could take my N.E.W.T.S."

That explains the accent Luna thought. Or lack of one. Rolf's voice was an interesting mix. Primarily American, but she could hear German, Swedish, Canadian and British in it too.

"I'm not really sure if I even want to take my NEWTS though." He continued "I'm going to be a magizoologist like my grandfather, and he got expelled from Hogwarts. Sorry, I tend to ramble"

"I don't mind. Is your grandfather Newt Scamander?" Luna asked

"Yes. That's him." Rolf said. "We should probably head back now. Your friends might worry."

"They wouldn't. I tend to disappear from time to time"

"Well I'm getting cold."

"Okay, let's go." They glided back to the shore with Ashton, and Luna had a feeling she and Rolf were going to be very good friends.
