When Izuku walked into the classroom he was happy to see Uraraka giggling about something to Shinso. At first, it had seemed like their new classmate was going to struggle to fit in but he's slowly starting to warm up to the others. It was nice seeing him actually talking instead of dozing away the morning like usual. He waves happily at them when he goes to his seat behind the purple-haired teen who suddenly dropped his next words into a harsh whisper.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Oh yes! It's one-hundred percent guaranteed to work at least two out of three times." She was pumping her fists in her strange motivational way.
"What!? That's not how math wor-"
"What are you guys talking about?" Izuku stalls next to them. He thinks he's decent enough at math, not as good as Ka-Bakugo, but maybe he can help.
Shinso's response however was to bury his head in his arms on the desk while groaning and Uraraka just kind of laughed nervously while rubbing the back of her head. Before he could sort out their strange behavior however the bell rang and Aizawa-sensei demanded they get to their seats.
After the class settled Izuku decided to risk leaning over his desk to whisper, "you know I'm happy to help with anything Shinso-kun..."
The only response he got to that was a half-committed hand wave from the arm wrapped around the back of his head while his face stayed buried in the crook of his other elbow. A good enough affirmation for Izuku. It was a little concerning that he stayed buried for the entire homeroom period and several of their morning classes. Izuku decided to take extra detailed notes in case Shinso wanted them, maybe he didn't sleep well last night.
Gym class today was... distracting. Well, actually, it wasn't gym that was distracting it was Shinso being distracting. Not on purpose! At least, Izuku is pretty sure it's not on purpose. Izuku isn't even fully certain what Shinso's is doing to be distracting but, for some reason, he keeps finding purple in the corner of his vision. Even when he's supposed to be dodging explosions aimed at his head in a way that's a little more murderous than Izuku feels is necessary. Maybe it just feels that way because of the constant accompaniment of the words 'DIE Deku!'.
Either way, it didn't matter much because Izuku was distracted and he feels like he isn't the only one considering how many times he's caught purple eyes suddenly darting away from Bakugo and his corner. Maybe Izuku should talk to him later, maybe it has something to do with that math problem he was struggling with.
Suddenly Izuku found himself face-first into the mat and a familiar burning lit up his shoulder and arm where Bakugo had him gripped.
"Oi shitty nerd pay the fuck attention!"
"He's right Midoriya pay attention to your own match. Bakugo let him up you already gained the point. And chill on the excessive quirk usage," Aizawa commented dully from his spot where he was leaned against the wall watching the matchups.
Right Izuku thought to himself as he tried to not look at the concerned look on Shinso's face, pay attention he turned back to face Bakugo fully again.
He earned himself a few more burns throughout the rest of class, nothing major... just enough to remind him of how distracted he had been.
In the locker room Izuku took his time changing out of his gym clothes his shoulder was really smarting and he wanted to wait for most of the other guys to leave before he exposed whatever damage Bakugo had caused. It wasn't a big deal, he just didn't want anyone to fuss over the situation any more than they already do.
After it quieted down Izuku started to work himself out of his shirt keeping his lower lip pulled between his teeth to limit the pained sounds that kept trying to escape his throat. It was nothing new. After the shirt was off and piled on the ground he checked the damage in the mirror in his locker, it wasn't bad. It didn't even need any medical treatment. He was just about to reach for his uniform shirt when he caught Shinso looking at him strangely in the mirror. He let out a small squeak and he jumped. He crashed into his locker door when he spun around causing Shinso's eyebrows to knit even further together.
"Sh-Shinso-kun! I-I'm-I'm sorry I didn't realize you were still in here.. not that I wouldn't notice you you're very noticeable it's just my shoulder, well no it's fine I just was lost in thought about other things like you, I mean like how you're doing so much better with your capture weapon. I noticed during gym how you well that's why Kach-Bakugo why he was so mad, but it's fine I'm fine.. you're fine.. I mean at gym class well not just gym cla-"
*BANG*
Izuku hadn't noticed that he had gotten lost in his mumbling until the loud noise startled him out of it. Without him realizing it Shinso had moved across the room and was now very very close to him with his hand above Izuku's head, having just slammed it into the locker. At first, Izuku had been captured by the intense look in Shinso's eyes but then as he felt himself blush he tried to avert his eyes in any other direction. This was a bad idea because now Izuku noticed. He noticed how much more sheer muscle mass Shinso had gained since the Sports Festival. His arms were so thick now and his chest was much broader than it had felt when Izuku had thrown him over his shoulder and his thighs... oh my god stop thinking about his thighs...
"Do," Izuku cleared his throat moving his eyes to the floor just staring at their feet, "Do, uh, do you need something Shinso-kun?"
"Coffee."
The blunt answer was strange but Shinso had been sleeping in class earlier, "Oh yeah I noticed you were sleepy today. I think they've got some in the dorms or maybe in the teacher's lounge if Aizawa-sensei is there he would probably-"
"No." Shinso's tired voice interrupted him, "I mean, do you want coffee, Midoriya?"
"Oh!" Izuku fought to ignore how the way Shinso's deep voice saying his name... did things to him. "Uh I actually don't drink coffee. I hear it stunts your growth.. well not your growth, obviously... I just didn't think taking the chance would have been a good idea because, well... you know..." Izuku had looked back into Shinso's face and trailed off when he noticed the pained look.
"Ice cream? Do you?" Suddenly it was Shinso looking away.
"It's the middle of winter," Izuku regrets his words when Shinso's face fell impossibly further into a frown. He was just about to suggest looking to see if they could get some from the store when Shinso spoke again.
"Movie?"
Izuku hummed, "The new All Might one?"
Shinso's face lit up and he locked eyes with Izuku nodding enthusiastically.
"Yeah that's a great Idea Shinso-kun," Izuku felt himself grin back at Shinso who looked positively over the moon, "We could turn it into a class trip I know a lot of people in our class want to see it I bet we could ask for permission to go this weekend!"
Suddenly Shinso's enthusiasm dropped to just above 'needing to go to the dentist' levels as he pushed himself off of the locker, "Right, class trip. Sounds fun... Sorry for getting in your space all weird like that."
"Oh no! It's fine, I like it when you're in my space!" Izuku slapped his hands over his mouth at the slip-up. Great, now things are gonna be awkward, way to go. You really are a deku aren't you? Look at his face, Shinso-kun probably looks totally... hopeful? Swallowing the lump of anxiety that had jumped into his throat Izuku decided to offer just a little more, "In fact I actually really... uh, like a lot of things you do Shinso-kun."
"If.. if you like it why did you turn down all of my dates?"
Coffee... Ice cream... Movies.. OHHHHHhhhhh! Izuku felt his cheeks heat up.
Shinso was fiddling with the capture scarf around his neck awkwardly, "You... you didn't realize-"
"Coffee sounds great!" Izuku blurted out suddenly.
"You said you didn't like coffee though."
"But... I do like you."
Shinso's lips wabbled through several emotions before he softly let out, "oh.. ok then, coffee."
Uraraka slaps Shinso on the back roughly as she passed them walking back to class hand in hand "See! I told you, the Kabedon always works."
