~Katniss~

I woke with a start in a room that was completely dark, I couldn't see a thing, there was no light, no door that I could tell, nothing to give me a sense of where I was. Only black, throwing off my equilibrium by stripping me of one of my senses. I tried to move my hands and feet but found that I was bound to the bed I was laying on. The material I was laying on was scratchy, irritating my skin, there wasn't even a pillow under my head. I guess as a prisoner, I wasn't allowed that luxury. I struggled against the straps holding me down, screaming out in frustration trying to get free. My screams reverberated off the walls but I still couldn't see anything. I had begun to think that I was blindfolded or worse, actually blind. I tried to listen, for any sort of sound. Like water running through pipes, the scratching of an animal, but all of heard was the sound of air moving through a vent, providing oxygen so I could breathe. I didn't even know how big the room was. The idea made me feel claustrophobic, bringing me to a near panic attack. Taking deep breathes I tried to calm myself down, trying to think about other things.

Where was I?

Who is holding me prisoner?

No doubt in my mind that it's the Capitol.

What happened to Cato?

Is he safe?

All of these thoughts ran through my mind. As a door opened and the white light that came through the door blinded me, forcing me to close my eyes, and preventing me from seeing who was coming through the door. Judging by the sounds of the footsteps, there were two people in the room with me. The footsteps were heavy, like those of a man. Neither of them spoke for a few moments, as if taking the time to observe me, making me feel vulnerable. But when someone in the room did speak, the voice that spoke was cold enough to send chills up my spine.

"Hello Katniss Everdeen." President Snow spoke in an overly cocky and proud.

"Snow." I bit out and he chuckled.

"Did you honestly think that your actions would go without consequence?" he asked as I was finally able to open my eyes and see the sickening smile on his face. I sneered at him with only made him laugh more.

"I knew there would be. Just not to this level." I retorted to him and he nodded.

"Well Ms. Everdeen, since you decided to continue to act rebelliously, it was only fitting that they made you a symbol for them right?" he asked and I just stared at him. "However since you decided to break the rules," he said, pausing to take a syringe from the other man in the room, who was dressed like a doctor would be. "then I intend to break you." Snow finished, jabbing the needle into my arm and pushing the plunger down. Instant, white hot, fiery pain filled my body, worse than anything I had ever felt. I couldn't contain my screams as they ripped out of me. The sadistic bastard stood there and laughed as he saw me in pain. As I continued to cry and scream he left the room with the doctor, shutting the door behind him, leaving me alone again, with nothing but the darkness, my screams, the pain, and the fear of what is to come.
