Part 1: The Suicide of Girl A
The chatroom was alive tonight, LaCroix had made his usual entrance and found that though he knew very little about it, the Nightcrawler Chatroom was filled with people who listened to his show. These went from teenagers to adults, some of which just by how they typed could determine their age. He spent a few minutes watching and giving short answers. Most often he realized that his audience were just as much into his mental thoughts as he was into theirs.
One such person was MayflyChild, the moment people noticed that reclusive chatroom lurker it was evident that he was not going to talk about much. There were times that MayflyChild came off as chatty and friendly, but tonight he was not in a usual form, this meant there was something going wrong in his life.
LaCroix had coaxed some responses, but MayflyChild was often the kind of person who rarely if ever gave a clue about his age or his own origin. There were moments where he would speak about places like Japan and sometimes even Germany, which led LaCroix to believe his friendly chatroom friend was a person of Japanese-German family, but he could have been mistaken.
Tonight was no different, while it was MayflyChild who was slowly withdrawing a bit into the background, it was of course LaCroix not allowing it.
Nightcrawler: MayflyChild, you are way to quiet for tonight's chat.
MayflyChild: Personal issues are coming up and I am doing double duty.
SingerGrey5656: Damn man, that must be tough. You manage our chatroom and what another?
MayflyChild: No, I don't manage this chatroom, this is just a fight between my guardian and roommate.
Nightmare: I see, how old are you if you don't mind me asking?
MayflyChild: 15 going to be 16 in October.
Singergrey5656: Damn, you're young! I didn't know that, you talk like you're older than me! I'm 21
MayflyChild: Age never truly shows maturity at times.
Was the kid right? LaCroix often had to say that to Nicolas and Janette that age was a number sometimes and not a true notation of wisdom. MayflyChild often spoke from experience of many things that had happened in his life, but rarely. Sometimes it took LaCroix hours to get the teenager to talk about something or anything. There were moments that there were the e-mails that MayflyChild sent him. "I translated it for you, its in Japanese, but it is about something new coming out for computers if you want the update, I can help you obtain it without costing much."
While the conversation went on, it was then that MayflyChild let something out.
MayflyChild: I'm going to be moving to the hospital soon, so I can't be online that often.
Nightcrawler: Hospital?
MayflyChild: Yes, appears my seizure last night caused my guardian to have a panic attack.
Nightcrawler: Now, that is serious...MayflyChild you know better than to worry people, especially your chat family.
MayflyChild: I know, this was something I didn't expect, the medication I was on was supposed to help.
Singergrey5656: Which Hospital?
MayflyChild: I won't know until tomorrow morning, they're making me go to bed. So night all.
While LaCroix had not taken to the idea of growing attached, he did however enjoy his conversations with MayflyChild and was not pleased with this. The person who could keep the chatroom up and going and was moderating when he could not was not going to be there for a few days. This can't be a good thing, he hasn't been this sick before.
He had never ventured to ask, he never liked to pry, but this time, it was something he had to figure out, he had to find the real MayflyChild, who he is and at least what he looked like. He was prepared to seem stalker like, but soon he saw the one person he could talk to, Aristotle who was a vampire hacker. He walked through the office and saw the vampire gazing up from his computer momentarily.
"I was growing quite fond of MayflyChild," the vampire hacker was amused a bit. "A true artist if I should say so, he makes a chatroom so much easier to navigate."
"You saw his message then," the vampire radio star was crossing his arms. "So much trouble for one vampire to handle I should say. I want to know who he is really, he can't be truly a 15..."
"Oh but he is," the hacker laughed. "Nagi is truly the most talented of hackers, to think he graduated from college at 12, has spent half his life traveling with his guardian. Spent most of his childhood in Germany at a special school for geniuses and suffers with epilepsy."
"So my chatroom friend is...Nagi Naoe," LaCroix was amused, but horrified at the prospect that someone was to die this young. "I suppose that stress of genius must be his down fall."
Aristotle was staring at him, he was standing up taking a step forward. "If there was ever a vampire who was to bring him across that would be me, not you! We share more than..." that was a fight LaCroix knew he would not win with that being said. "I know you are an elder of the highest regard, but you have to consider one issue, will Nagi make the decision on his own or will it be coaxed."
"It is a decision I don't want him to make!" LaCroix barked out, he crossed his arms and glared. "I have had two children defy me and while the prospect of having Nagi invited into my family seems something I could do, Nicolas would not have it and I for whatever reason feel Nagi is too young."
"There is the problem its his age."
Vachon was sitting inside the Police station, he was hoping at least Nick would come out of an office to say, "You can go now, it was all a misunderstanding," he was waiting. The vampire just sat patiently and sighed wishing that Tracy had not taken her vacation. He was aware that he was driving too fast, he knew that he made a mistake and miscalculated his stop.
Nick was gazing at him and rolling his eyes. "You can go," he said shortly.
"Thanks for bailing me out, I owe you," he was smiling and saw the older vampire glare at him. "Okay, maybe I owe too much."
"What were you thinking?" Nick asked as they walked outside.
"I wasn't thinking, all right, I was being fucking stupid," the other admitted. "I just heard something weird and then there she was on the road, she fell and I swear she was pushed!"
"Wait..." Nick stared at him. "You were at that scene?" He was pushing him back into the office so no one could see. "You saw a girl being pushed from that building?"
"Yeah, I know I can't make a statement or anything, but I saw these figures with weird white masks on," Vachon was looking around and nodded. "If you get me a sketch pad I can possibly draw it out, because those kind of masks are weird."
He drew out masks that had I and II on it that looked like something out of a game. "It looked like one of those freaky games from Japan," the Spanish vampire admitted. "I was not sure what they were, but there were two of them and that girl...she was wearing a weird uniform too."
"Yeah I saw the uniform, its for a private school called Negamus Academy or something like that, I can't pronounce it," Nick sighed and took the paper. "This is something and yeah, I know it wasn't a suicide, three deaths within three months of each other is not suicide."
"Figured it as much."
Nick went back to his desk and stared at the image, he saw Captain Reese staring down at it too. "Those look like the masks from a video game," he was showing Nick the images off a computer.
"What about this?" Nick stopped over something, then his eyes widened. "Hold on where are these from?"
"A security camera, your friend there saw more than what I think should be considered allowed, and yeah, I believe you that the girl was murdered," Reese whispered and then made sure the curtains in the room were drawn. "Don't go telling anyone and don't look like you're doing an investigation. So far, we were told to back off and let someone else handle it, they're coming in tomorrow night. I was informed that you might be asked to help, but I otherwise won't be giving you orders, you're taking them from the specialist when they arrive."
"Who?"
"I can't tell you, just be prepared."
This was getting weird, Nick walked out and then heard Reese whisper something else. "Have a good vacation, we got the paperwork set up for that."
"Yeah, I'll be back before you know it."
Nick made his way to see Natalie, he had promised to see her tonight. He walked into her office and noticed something was odd. He could hear the sound of someone else talking to her. "I see, we will get back to you," he saw a female leaving and stopping. She was tall with brown hair and turned around to look at another woman with red hair. "So this is the detective, Manx?"
"Yes, we weren't supposed to meet with you until tomorrow night, but I guess early is better than tomorrow." She was smiling, her accent was Japanese, Nick realized her hair was dyed red. "I'm Manx and this is Lynx, we are part of the team investigating the school that you had the unfortunate mishap of having the case fall on you."
"You could say that," he nodded and saw Natalie looking sheepishly at him. "So what is going on?"
"Well, you're right about the case being murder, no matter what you were told," Lynx smiled, her eyes were down. "So far this has been part of a rash of suicides that have been happening all over the world. This is from a school in Japan, Germany, France, United States, and now Canada," she showed him a few photos. "The girls and boys involved were part of a specialized school."
Lynx nodded. "We're thinking some of the students are being brainwashed, we haven't gathered enough evidence for that yet, but we have noticed that the students who were said to suicide had no drugs in their system, but witnesses did say they were muttering to themselves. Others have said they seen them being pushed."
Nick was staring at the records and then over at the two women who had presented it to him. "So this is why I was called off the case and into this?"
"You actually were more thorough than we expected and were told what you wrote up."
He was starting to think that this case was going to become much worse than he thought it was going to be.
