Star Wars: Sequels Retold

After Luke Skywalker disappears, his son is thrust on an adventure to find him and save the galaxy from the First Order. This leads him to a young scavenger named Rey, who will change his life forever... A retelling of the sequel trilogy in a more satisfying way, changing certain parts of the story, adding two or three OC's and elements from Legends.

2. Book 1: Chapter 2

Book 1:

The Force Awakens

Chapter 2: New Friends

Three TIE fighters head to the massive ship high above Jakku.

We cut to within the Star Destroyer, in a holding cell.

Poe slowly wakes up, shackled to a chair and beaten to a pulp.

Kylo Ren is across from him, and says, "I had no idea we had the best pilot in the Resistance on board. Comfortable?"

Poe speaks through battered lips, "not really."

Kylo, "I'm impressed. No one has been able to get out of you what you did with the map, or if he was with you."

Poe, "might wanna rethink your technique."

Kylo Ren says nothing, and reaches out to him. Poe flinches in the chair as Kylo Ren reaches for his face, not touching him. Poe is soon in agony, but remains in horrible silence.

Kylo, "where are they?"

Poe, "the Resistance will not be intimidated by you!"

Kylo, "where…. Is it?"

Poe can't take it anymore. He screams in pure agony!

We cut to later, daytime, as the door to the cell slides up. Kylo Ren exits and confronts a man named General Hux, "it's in a droid. A BB unit. And the boy is with it."

Hux, "Well then. If they're on Jakku, we'll soon have it."

Kylo, "I leave that to you."

….

We cut back to Niima Outpost.

BB-8 is dropped into the sand, right next to Jace.

Rey, "don't give up. He still might show up. Whoever it is you're waiting for. Classified. I know all about waiting."

Jace had told Rey they had been separated from their friend, but other than that, not much else.

Jace asked, "your family?"

BB-8 beep asks the same.

Rey, "they'll be back. One day. Come on."

Jace and BB-8 glance at one another as they follow the girl.

Later at the trading structure, Rey stands with her new friends at Unkar Plutt's window.

Unkar reviews the pieces, glancing at BB-8 and says, "these five pieces are worth... Let me see here... One half portion."

Jace muttered, "bantha crap."

Rey, "last week they were a half portion each."

Rey could tell she was being conned. Unkar was nothing but a cheating scumbag.

Unkar leaned forward and asked, "what about the droid?"

Rey, "what about him?"

Unkarr, "I'll pay for him."

Rey is awkward about the situation, BB-8 doesn't like the way the fat alien is staring at him, and Jace is fuming.

Unkar slams down a bunch of pouches of food on the table.

Unkar offered, "sixty portions!"

Jace looks at Rey as she is stunned by how much food is on the table. He wants to put trust in her before he tries to intervene. She almost lunges forward, but stops herself as she stares down at the little droid.

He beeps in fear.

Jace is thinking, 'please….'

Rey considers it all, and finally says, "actually…. The droid's not for sale."

Jace gives a sigh of relief as he looks at the young woman with respect for turning down such an offer for someone she barely knew.

Rey takes her half portion as she looks to BB-8 and Jace and says, "come on."

Unkar looks furious.

Before they walk away, Jace says, "for the record, the droid is in my care. Not hers. And I wouldn't give him away for one hundred portions!"

Unkar watches them go with dark eyes. He picks up a communicator with a furious glare.

Unkar, "follow the girl and boy and get that droid!"

He slams the service window door shut.

As Rey walks with her friends, Jace says, "I'm proud of you Rey. You didn't give into that slimo's deal."

Rey, "I couldn't do that to you guys. You're the first friends I've ever had on this planet."

Jace, "heh…. Rey, I need to tell you something."

Rey, "what?"

Jace pulled Rey and BB-8 into a hidden area and whispered, "I'm with the Resistance."

Rey was in awe for a moment, "the Resistance? Why are you here on Jakku?!"

Jace, "me and BB-8 are on a special mission. We need to wait for our friend. After all you've done for us, I feel like you deserved to know."

Rey smiled, "I'm grateful that you trust me."

The two both blushed as their faces got closer to one another.

But when they heard BB-8 beep, the two move away from one another and moved on with their day.

….

Back at the holding cell aboard the Star Destroyer.

Poe is still shackled and being guarded. He looks worse for wear.

The door opens as a stormtrooper comes in and says, "Ren wants the prisoner."

Poe is unshackled and given to the trooper.

Soon we see an exhausted, handcuffed Poe walked down the corridor by the Stormtrooper, who holds a blaster at Poe's body.

The trooper, "turn here."

They enter a narrow passageway, and after a few feet, the trooper stops Poe and says, "listen carefully: you do exactly as I say, I can get you out of here."

Poe comes to, "if…. What?!"

The trooper removes his helmet, revealing himself as FN-2187!

FN, "this is a rescue, I'm helping you escape. Can you fly a TIE fighter?"

Poe, "you with the resistance?! Did Jace send you!?"

FN, "what? No, no, no! I'm breaking you out! Can you fly a TIE fighter?"

Poe, "I can fly anything. Why, why are you helping me?"

FN, "because it's the right thing to do."

It hits Poe.

Poe, "you need a pilot."

FN, "I need a pilot."

And Poe, seeing this is for real, smiles a hero's smile at this unexpected ally.

Poe, "we're gonna do this!"

FN is unsure, but hopeful, "... yeah?"

We cut to the hangar, and see FN, now masked, walking with Poe, making it look like he's escorting a prisoner. Various officers pass them by.

FN, "okay, stay calm. Stay calm."

Poe, "I am calm."

FN, "I'm talking to myself?"

They pause for a moment.

FN, "not yet. Okay, go. This way."

FN walks quickly toward the far wall with Poe on his heels up the stairs to a two-man Special Forces TIE Fighter.

Both men drop into the ship, back to back. Poe winced in pain a bit.

FN removes his helmet as Poe removes his cuffs and jacket, firing up the ship with excitement.

Poe, "I always wanted to fly one of these things. Can ya shoot?"

FN, "blasters, I can!"

Poe, "okay, same principal! Use the toggle on the left to switch between missiles, cannons, and mag pulse. You use the site on the right to aim, triggers to fire!"

FN, "this is very complicated."

The TIE Fighter lurches forward.

Poe, "I can fix this!"

We see the ship struggle to rise, due to cables connected to it. This causes the fighter to pull back fast to reveal inside of the main control room.

A technician says, "we have an unsanctioned departure from bay two."

A first order colonel responds, "alert General Hux and stop that fighter."

The TIE Fighter lifts off from the bay, ripping the charging cables that kept it there!

Stormtroopers unpack and aim megablasters at the TIE.

FN opens fire, tearing up parked TIE fighters and gun emplacements with well-aimed and strategic laser blasts! His blasts manage to hit the control room! The windows are blown in by the blasts!

In the cockpit, Poe yells, "I got it!"

The TIE Fighter blasts from the ship!

Poe pilots, amazed by the power of the TIE fighter, almost enjoying it.

Poe, "woooahhh! This thing really moves. All right, we gotta take out as many cannons as we can or we're not gonna get very far!"

FN, "alright!"

Poe, "I'm gonna get us in position, just stay sharp!"

The TIE Fighter arcs back, diving through the opening between the levels of the massive ship, and it then flies down and back, along the ship's belly.

Poe flies straight down the canons.

Poe, "up ahead! Up ahead! You see it? I've got us dead centered. It's a clean shot."

FN, "okay, got it!"

He gets a target and fires!

Lasers blast from the TIE Fighter, causing a series of canons to explode! The TIE Fighter slices through the debris!

FN yells in celebration and says, "yes! You see that? Did you see that!?"

Poe, "I saw it! Hey, what's your name?"

FN, "FN-2187!"

Poe reacts very concerned, this tells him volumes about FN-2187's history.

Poe, "FN-whaa?"

FN, "that's the only name they ever gave me!"

Poe, "well I ain't using it! FN, huh? Finn. I'm gonna call you Finn! That all right?"

FN, Finn, can't help but smile, despite the madness around them.

Finn, "'Finn.' Yeah, 'Finn', I like that! I like that!"

Poe, "I'm Poe. Poe Dameron."

Finn, "good to meet you Poe."

Poe, "good to meet you too Finn!"

….

In the main bridge of the Star Destroyer.

General Hux looks over the shoulder of lieutenant Mitaka, at a console.

Mitaka, "sir, they've taken out our turbolasers-"

Hux interrupts, "use the ventral cannons."

Mitaka, "yes, sir. Bringing them online!"

"General Hux. Is it the Resistance pilot?"

Hux turns to see Kylo Ren enter, looking very large and angry.

Hux, "yes. And he had help. From one of our own. We're checking the registers now to identify which Stormtrooper it was."

Kylo, "... The one from the village. FN-2187."

Hux is unnerved that Ren knows. He chalks it up to Ren's Force ability. Kylo Ren heads off, leaving Hux relieved for a moment.

Mitaka, "Sir. Ventral cannons hot."

Hux, "fire."

….

Massive warhead launchers spin and fire blasts toward the TIE fighter, which flies evasive maneuvers. Most of the blasts hit the debris from the turbolasers destruction. The TIE fighter then pulls a big turn, back towards Jakku.

Poe, "fighter's coming towards you. My right, your left. Do you see it?"

Finn, "hold on! I see it!"

Finn is able to shoot a TIE down

Poe, "nice shot."

Finn looks up suddenly in alarm.

Finn, "where are you going?"

Poe, "we're going back to Jakku. That's where."

Finn, "no no no! We can't go back to Jakku! We need to get outta this system!"

Poe pilots aggressively, nearly missing laser blasts from their pursuers.

Poe, "I got to get to my droid and friend before the First Order does!"

Finn, "what - a droid?! And one guy!?"

Poe, "that's right. He's a BB unit! Orange and white: one of a kind. My buddy is one of the best damn fighters in the resistance!"

Finn, "I don't care what color he is! No droid can be that important! Or one soldier!"

Poe, "these guys are, pal."

Finn, "we need to get as far away from the First Order as we can! We go back to Jakku, we die!"

Poe, "that droid's got a map that leads straight to Luke Skywalker! And my friend's the one guarding him!"

Finn, "oh, you gotta be kidding me! I-"

Suddenly bam! They are hit by a laser blast!

The TIE Fighter sparks and smokes, spiraling out of control toward the surface of Jakku!

….

Captain Phasma and General Hux stand before a holographic projection detailing FN-2187's service records.

Phasma, "FN-2187 reported to my division, was evaluated and sent to Reconditioning."

Hux, "no prior signs of non-conformity?"

Phasma, "this was his first offense."

A technician checks her readings, and reports to General Hux, "General. They've been hit."

Hux, "destroyed?"

The technician replies, "disabled. They were headed back to Jakku. The fighter's projected to crash in the Goazon badlands."

Hux; "they were going back for the droid and his companion. Send a squad to the wreckage."

….

Finn wakes up, going from unconscious to terrified in less than a second. He sits up and looks around.

He sits in the middle of a large desert, dunes as far as the eye could see.

A black chute blows in the wind behind him, scattered debris are littered around the place. Then he sees, over distant dunes, rising black smoke. He gets up, quickly moving toward it, calling out, "Poe! Poe!"

Finn scrambles over the massive dune to the TIE Fighter.

It's smoking and on fire, small debris around it. He thinks he sees Poe's arm. He pulls on it, but it's just Poe's jacket.

He throws that off and tries to find a way in, even a way to look inside, but the smoke and heat make it impossible.

Finn, "Poe! POE!"

Suddenly the ship begins to sink, like it's being consumed into quicksand. Finn is slipping in too!

Finn, "POE! POE!"

It becomes clear fast: if Finn doesn't get away, he's gonna get sucked in too! So Finn scampers away from the TIE Fighter as it sinks into the sand! These are the Sinking Fields. A few moments and it's gone.

Finn's out of breath. Horrified. Then A giant explosion erupts from below, sending sand and debris everywhere!

Finn sees this, disoriented, scared, exhausted and defeated.

And all alone.

Later, with endless dunes behind him, Finn walks, removing pieces of his Stormtrooper gear, using Poe's flight jacket as shade.

Exhausted, Finn continues his trek across the endless, sandy nothingness.

Finn, parched and losing hope, walks to the edge of a massive dune, and looks out into the epic valley below. Miles ahead he sees: Niima Outpost!

….

As we return to the Star Destroyer, we see General Hux and Kylo Ren walk the length of the bridge.

Hux, "Supreme Leader Snoke was explicit. Capture the droid if we can, but destroy it if we must. And if the boy is as important as he thinks he is, capture him at all costs."

Kylo, "how capable are your soldiers, General?"

Hux, "I won't have you question my methods."

Kylo, "they're obviously skilled at committing high treason. Perhaps Leader Snoke should consider using a clone army."

Hux, "my men are exceptionally trained. Programmed from birth-"

Kylo, "then they should have no problem retrieving the droid. Unharmed."

Hux, "careful, Ren. That your, 'personal interests', not interfere with orders from Leader Snoke."

Kylo, "I want that map. And the boy. For your sake, I suggest you get them."

Ren heads off as Hux watches him with pure hatred.

….

At Niima Outpost, sun-scorched and exhausted, Finn stumbles out of the desert into the marketplace. In a heatstroke daze, he moves past enormous old ship parts, merchants, scavengers and tented stalls.

Finn mutters, "water…. Water…. Water…."

He sees a water trough, where a filthy, slobbering hippo-like creature, known as a Happabore, drinks. Finn moves to it, and uses his hands to desperately drink the filthy water. After a couple swallows he spits it out, disgusted.

Finn, "Awgh, GAH!"

But he's parched and immediately returns for more.

Across the marketplace, Rey kneels with an emphatically beeping BB-8. Jace is standing nearby, finding the exchange between the two quite cute.

Just then, two of Unkar's thugs approach and stop her. One clearly tells her and Jace that they're taking the droid. BB-8 reacts nervously as Rey resists them, one pulls a sack over BB-8 while the other grabs Rey's arm. Another runs over and tries to tackle Jace. In the tussle, Rey knocks over metal urns for sale, as Jace wrestles the other thug on the ground.

Finn, still drinking, is pushed over by the happabore. He falls to the ground, then turns to look when he hears crashing. He sees, through the tents, Rey and Jace fighting.

He moves up closer to help this young woman and man being accosted….

…. But he stops when they begin to fight back.

Rey is scrappy and feral, she kicks, bites and hits the thugs that dare attack her. Years in the desert helping her defend herself.

Jace is more calculated, getting the thug off of him as they both stand, and he dodges every fist thrown at him, and strikes back even stronger.

Finn is taken aback as they defeat the attackers, who hit the sand, hard.

Finn just watches, stunned.

Rey moves to the covered BB-8 and pulls the sack off of him.

Finn cannot believe his eyes. It's Poe's droid! And the man must've been Poe's friend Jace!

Jace, "nice work with those thugs. How'd you learn to fight like that?"

Rey, "I've been on this planet for years. Fighting tooth and nail comes naturally."

Jace, "well, I gotta say, you world that staff well."

Rey chuckles at the compliment.

Rey kneels down and talks to BB-8, who, nervous now, looks around and...

Sees Finn! BB-8 starts beeping like crazy. Then something insane happens: Rey and Jace look at Finn!

Rey, "who? Him?"

Jace, "I recognize that jacket!"

Finn is confused. Rey stands, staring at Finn, defiant.

Jace has a glare looking just as angry.

Finn can feel trouble coming, and the two begin charging at him, quarterstaff in hand, with Jace holding a blaster at the ready.

Realizing he's the target, Finn begins to run away from them, through the tent marketplace. Jace and Rey go after him. Finn turns a corner, then another, and then BAM! They've gotten ahead of him and Rey slams him to the ground with her staff.

Finn is on his back, out of breath and freaked out. She holds the staff on him threateningly.

Jace had his blaster pointed up, making sure Finn knew he had an effective weapon.

Rey, "what's your hurry, thief?"

Jace, "gonna steal someone's pants next?"

Finn, "what? Thief!?"

BB-8 rolls up fast, moves to Finn, where a welding arm telescopes from his body and shocks Finn!

Finn, "OW! Hey! What?!"

Rey, "the jacket! This droid says you stole it!"

Finn, "I've had a pretty messed up day, alright?! So I'd appreciate it if you stop accusing me- OW!"

BB-8 has zapped him.

Again.

Finn, "stop it!"

Rey, "where'd you get it?"

Jace, "it belongs to our friend, his master!"

Finn looks at her, then Jace, and then the agitated droid, Finn's mind racing. He puts it all together. He's frustrated, but sighs heavily, needing to respond somehow. So he makes a hard decision: to tell the truth.

Funn, "it belonged to Poe Dameron. That was his name, right?"

Rey and BB-8 react, surprised and wanting more. They look at Jace as he nods, confirming the name.

Finn, "he was captured... by the First Order! I helped him escape but our ship crashed. Poe didn't make it."

BB-8 beeps in sadness as he rolls off.

Jace gives a pained look as Rey looks at them in regret.

Finn, "look, I tried to help him. I'm sorry…."

BB-8 heads off to the side, depressed. Rey watches BB-8, then considers Finn again. She speaks a bit impressed, "so you're with the Resistance?"

Finn's mind races again. He makes an easy decision: to lie.

Finn, "obviously. Yes. I am. I'm with the Resistance, yeah", he whispers, "I'm with the Resistance."

Jace looks at the man. He feels like he's lying, but he could just be a new recruit. And he saved Poe, so he decided to trust him for now.

Rey lowers her staff, and Finn stands. Rey studies him.

Rey, "I've never met a Resistance fighter before. Except for Jace."

Finn regarded Jace for a moment as he said, "well, this is what we look like. Some of us. Others look different."

Jace, "yeah, not everyone can look as good as us."

Rey snickers at her friend's words.

Rey, "BB-8 and Jace say they're on a secret mission, they have to get back to your base."

Finn, "apparently he's carrying a map that leads to Luke Skywalker, and everyone's after it."

Jace freezes at the words. He knew about the mission, but hearing the name still shook him. That, and he was ticked off that Finn just blurted out their mission.

Rey turns to Finn, concerned, curious. And asks, "Luke Skywalker? I thought he was a myth!?"

Just then BB-8 beeps madly at something he sees.

Rey, "what is it?"

Jace, "those thugs coming back for more?"

Rey moves to BB-8 and peeks around a tent corner. Now Finn and Jace move to see what they're looking at.

At a distance, two stormtroopers are talking to Unkar's thugs, who point their way!

Finn urgently grabs Rey's hand and heads for the tents!

Jace finds himself glaring at the action as he and their droid follow close behind them.

Rey, "what are you doing?!"

Finn, "come on!

Suddenly, laser blasts rip past them and hit a cleaning unit, causing it to spew steam! Rey screams in shock as more blasts fly past them while they run!

The small group zigzag's through the tents, avoiding the blaster fire as best as they could….

Zero: that was my thought. The son of Luke Skywalker being with the granddaughter of Obi Wan Kenobi, and the Emperor. I thought it would be pretty cool.

Guest: that's sort of what I have planned. Mara is going to be with Leia, with her and Jace being a big part of the Resistance. As for Jaina, she and Jace will both have those names as their middle ones, but their first names will be different. Jaina will have been training with Luke on the island, with her slowly trying to convince Luke that he can still inspire hope. Mara's gonna go with Jace and Rey to find Luke. And I plan for her and Leia to train Rey. And she'll be helping with the space battle on StarKiller Base. You'll have to wait and see...

.31: glad you like the story thus far, and I'm pretty sure I'll make Luke and Mara Jace's parents.

Amanny: I am very happy you like the First chapter. I'll probably make Jace's parents Luke and Mara, since it seems to fit the best.

As the sorry goes on, changes will be more frequent in certain parts. The Force Awakens will be mostly the same as the movie, other than Jace being a part of the story.

Also, the titles of the chapters are a reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Like, chapter 1 is book 1, chapter 1. This chapter is book 1, chapter 2. Get it?
